I know alot of it is probably exajerated by media but to splosh out that much on a completely ott wedding seems quite revolting to me when millions all over the world are dying and how that money could have been spent on helping starving dying children, housing homeless people and helping refugees fleeing from war torture disaster and god knows what. And while I'm having a moan flogging just 1 painting of the royal family could probably solve alot of problems and it makes me sick how they preach to everyone about everything whilst sitting on fortunes t they don't need want and probably don't even like or notice anymore. Anyway that's what I think.

It’s their business.

But this sort of thing does encourage people to aspire to a luxurious lifestyle which the planet cannot support.

Silverswirl · 11/04/2022 17:23

@dudsville

It's not a surprise. Human beings are not primarily good. It's a shame that we allow wealth to accumulate to extreme levels.
What most people don’t realise though, is that as humans we need to have rich and poor. Most People need to feel they can strive for something. That there are untold riches if only you work hard or get lucky. Seeing these people keeps the dream alive. That’s why the papers print these stories. It sells, people want to know and are fascinated. If no one cared, there would be no rich celebrities. But as humans we lap it up (speaking generally) Imagine if no matter how hard you worked you has as much money as your neighbour (who may not do anything at all but sit on his bum all day eating Doritos watching tv) It’s all relative. Someone would think that you have obscene wealth, just for living in a house in the UK and having a phone / the internet, clean clothes and a car
Fairislefandango · 11/04/2022 17:23

YABVU. I have no liking for or interest in the Beckhams, but it's frankly absurd to arbitrarily decide that rich people are suddenly not supposed to use their money for what they want. There is always poverty. There are always wars and conflicts. And there are always loads of wealthy people around the globe constantly spending eye-watering amounts on extravagant luxuries. Picking on one of them just because you happen to be aware of his wedding is ridiculous. There are many impoverished people in the world who would no doubt regard your life as incredibly luxurious. Does that mean you're not allowed to buy things?

Antarcticant · 11/04/2022 17:24

Most people spend much more on their wedding than just the cost of becoming married. Where do you draw the line between what's reasonable and what's excessive?

DoorWasAJar · 11/04/2022 17:25

@Pumperthepumper

We should get rid of the Royal Family. I don’t care about Brooklyn Beckham.
In Berlin they just voted to take 200000 houses from the elites (or someone?) and keep as state owned, IIUC.
MadameTuffington2 · 11/04/2022 17:25

@Airfriedpotatowitch YANBU - however, to me it’s not about them sharing their wealth which I’m sure they do (and lots of it) - it’s more about how ostentatious it is - so misguided when there’s a hideous war going on and a serious cost of living crisis in the UK - they just could have done it a little more discreetly I feel …

RobertsRadio · 11/04/2022 17:26

@AchillesPoirot

It wasn’t the Beckham that paid for it. It was paid for by her father.
This 👆. Brooklyn Beckham didn't pay for his wedding, the bride's billionaire father did.
TheKeatingFive · 11/04/2022 17:26

At least the British taxpayers weren't footing the bill for this wedding.

3peassuit · 11/04/2022 17:27

As long as they don’t evade paying tax, I don’t care how much they spend.

DoorWasAJar · 11/04/2022 17:27

@Silverswirl Oh wow, where do you get that, that hard work makes for wealth or success?! Did you miss the millions of people that are working hard yet have to use benefits and food banks?!

Vicliz24 · 11/04/2022 17:27

@Catflapkitkat

It's all relative isn't it £3 million to both families would be about 30 quid for me.

It's their business what they spend, I just hate the daily photo releases. The publicity has all been so cringe

BiscuitLover3678 · 11/04/2022 17:27

They probably spent a smaller proportion of their income on a wedding than we all do. It is a wedding.

I agree for other stuff though.

Blossomtoes · 11/04/2022 17:28

@LovelyYellowLabrador

Didn’t Victoria Beckham fashion business, well ahem sham! Business that loses so much money it’s just a vanitity project Claim furlough benefits from then government then after it came out in public paid it back That tells you all you need to know !!
Correct. The business that’s been running at a loss ever since it started.
00100001 · 11/04/2022 17:28

Presumably you live a frugal lifestyle,and send off all excess money to charity.

ElenaSt · 11/04/2022 17:28

Her parents live in a $76 million home, A $3 million wedding is not expensive to them.

DramaLlamaAlwaysLaughs · 11/04/2022 17:30

She’s an heiress to her zillions, maybe that’s why neither are smiling in the photos shown on tv this morning. Smile, enjoy posh and becks half a million pound James Bond esq car

BigWoollyJumpers · 11/04/2022 17:31

@MsTSwift

Also sickening how wealthy Rishi Sunaks wife is. Know it’s not her fault etc sure she is nice personallly but something is wrong in our system if one family can be that wealthy
But they are also self made via her father, and they also support many charities in India. Who declares who is worthy, and who isn't? Her father basically set up the Indian IT sector, which has bought wealth and jobs to the entire country.......
BlueOverYellow · 11/04/2022 17:31

@freebritknee

The beckhams do their share for charity.
Ha! The Beckhams do just enough to try to get David a knighthood. They were perfectly happy taking taxpayer monies to shore up VB's business during the pandemic when they're worth a small nation themselves.

They've encouraged their children to be famous for having famous parents with nothing of substance to back any of it up.

But it is all relative. To some people they might look at you and think that you could do more. You don’t need X, Y or Z. Why are you spending your money on something that another person might find abhorrently wasteful yet you think is normal.

I understand your perspectives, but on the flip side, what about preaching to the public that help contribute to their wealth, e.g. The amount spent when people go to the cinema, or fast food takeaways, etc,
Haffiana · 11/04/2022 17:33

You have a computer/mobile device, OP. How fucking dare you use a computer in a house with electricity and a roof over your head when millions are starving? How dare you grind your rich gadgets in the face of starving refugee babies?

How Fucking Dare You be so HYPOCRITICAL.

Rocket1982 · 11/04/2022 17:33

Better that they spend it on a wedding and put it back into the economy than just having it sitting in a bank account on the Cayman Islands. But yeah, extreme inequality IS disgusting. It’s disgusting that 2000 billionaires have as much wealth as 60% of people on the planet. Until we even out this travesty of justice we won’t get rid of war and avoidable human suffering.

Say what? Germany is seizing 200,000 properties from wealthy Germans for the state to keep?

FOTTFSOFTFOASM · 11/04/2022 17:34

Have a Biscuit, OP.

user1471538283 · 11/04/2022 17:34

It was insensitive and insufferable.
