To be disgusted by brooklyn Beckham wedding

I know alot of it is probably exajerated by media but to splosh out that much on a completely ott wedding seems quite revolting to me when millions all over the world are dying and how that money could have been spent on helping starving dying children, housing homeless people and helping refugees fleeing from war torture disaster and god knows what. And while I'm having a moan flogging just 1 painting of the royal family could probably solve alot of problems and it makes me sick how they preach to everyone about everything whilst sitting on fortunes t they don't need want and probably don't even like or notice anymore. Anyway that's what I think.

@moonbedazzled

I have no respect for David, Victoria or Brooklyn Beckham. But it's their money and they can spend it how they want to. I thought £10,000 on his first birthday was ridiculous and I get there are better ways to spend it, but I think we all know from the leaked David Beckham emails, that he's one of the least charitable people ever.
What's a better way than sharing their wealth back into the community. They PAID £10K to other people who paid it to other people who paid it on bills etc. They didn't burn it and fling the ashes at the poor
Guineapigssweak · 11/04/2022 16:54

All the money they have spent has paid people's wages. Everyone involved in the wedding got a wage from it. So you are being unreasonable.plus you have no idea how much they help charities. As for selling a Royal Portrait you really are losing the plot. That's our heritage and not for sale.

VyeBrator · 11/04/2022 16:56

It's their own money so they can spend it how they want, just as I'm sure you spend yours.

LynetteScavo · 11/04/2022 16:57

They could have left their money sitting in the bank, instead they chose to spend it on stuff and keep caterers etc in business.

Almost everyone is guilty of spending on things they don't really need.

Thank you for sharing.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 11/04/2022 16:58

Of course they have had an expensive wedding. For us,not them.
Honestly good on them.

iklboo · 11/04/2022 16:58

I forgot everyone was supposed to stop spending their money on anything remotely enjoyable and should be sitting in a hair shirt, wringing their hands, crying 'woe'.

Dinoteeth · 11/04/2022 16:58

@Lykia

Yes it was an extravagant affair however think about all the people who they employed/made money out of it. That wedding probably kept a lot of businesses afloat especially after the lean Covid years.
That's exactly what I was thinking that is money providing employment for other people.

A few years ago the queen went with her begging bowl to the government for Buckingham Palace to be renovated. She got her wish, cost about £365 million.....now she's said she never wants to live there again.

I understand that it's not her private home (,though she got to live in it) but there are much higher priorities.

Now THAT winds me up.

LaMarschallin · 11/04/2022 16:59

I've got the urge to splosh out on something now.

Maybe something extra-luxurious for DP.

And, yes, I could send that £1.50 to the NHS, but I think he's worth it...

That's what I think.

WonderfulYou · 11/04/2022 17:00

I think anyone who spends a lot on a wedding is ridiculous but YABU as it’s their money so they can waste it however they want to.
There has always been poverty and wars and that’s not going to change anytime soon.

Blossomtoes · 11/04/2022 17:01

@freebritknee

The beckhams do their share for charity.
Do they? They keep it mighty quiet. They also put in a furlough claim for her unprofitable hobby business and were shamed into withdrawing it.
Aimee1987 · 11/04/2022 17:02

Its always been the case. There are 2153 billionaires in the world and they hold more money that the poorest 4.6 billion people.

The uneven distribution of wealth is not a novel concept

Hopspinach · 11/04/2022 17:02

You could apply this rule to every unnecessary expenditure in life.

RealBecca · 11/04/2022 17:03

And how much money was taxed and spent on jobs like floristry. If noone spent money the economy would collapse.

I hope you dont waste any more money on judgey pants, you already have a good pair so dont be so frivolous.

nativityplayreject · 11/04/2022 17:03

@freebritknee

The beckhams do their share for charity.
But as we became aware from leaked e-mails, the motivation behind the charity work was to rewarded with some form of honour, preferably a knighthood if I recall.

Apologies for the above being a link to The Sun

gamerchick · 11/04/2022 17:04

They're minted. They can have the wedding they want. It doesn't matter.

Mybestyear · 11/04/2022 17:04

YABU. It’s their money and they can afford it. Proportionately it probably equates to about 3k to the average person. I’m against inherited wealth but it’s up to them I suppose. They will get a lot of it back from Vogue who bought the picture rights. Maybe even make a profit!

Ohwellnevermindthen · 11/04/2022 17:04

I put YANBU purely because I think it's distasteful given what is currently happening, but I expect no less of them to be honest. You can't force them to be charitable.

incognitoforthisone · 11/04/2022 17:06

It's all relative. The bride's father is a billionaire. He spent some of his money on a big family wedding.

Every time anyone spends any money on something non-essential, they are spending money that could be put to use helping someone else. For example, a child in a developing country can be vaccinated against a life-threatening disease for a few quid - when you spend a couple of quid on a magazine or some chocolate or a lipstick, or a bottle of wine or any other non-essential product, how would you feel if someone tapped you on the shoulder and said you were disgusting to spend money that could have saved a child's life?

Everyone spends money on things they don't, strictly speaking, actually need, and that keeps a lot of people in work and earning a wage. And for all you know, the Peltz family might give plenty to charity. The Beckhams certainly do.

rwalker · 11/04/2022 17:06

Yes they spent a fortune and that money went to business and services employing people and keeping them in work .

You seem to miss understand how the Beckhams got there money form business and working they didn't find it in a carrier bag under there bed .

moonbedazzled · 11/04/2022 17:07

@TurningUpMyStereotype

I have no respect for David, Victoria or Brooklyn Beckham.

They’re going to be gutted. 😬

I don't respect them. I don't give a fig that they don't care what I think.

How dramatic! I said it was their money and they could spend it how they wanted.
