To be disgusted by brooklyn Beckham wedding

I know alot of it is probably exajerated by media but to splosh out that much on a completely ott wedding seems quite revolting to me when millions all over the world are dying and how that money could have been spent on helping starving dying children, housing homeless people and helping refugees fleeing from war torture disaster and god knows what. And while I'm having a moan flogging just 1 painting of the royal family could probably solve alot of problems and it makes me sick how they preach to everyone about everything whilst sitting on fortunes t they don't need want and probably don't even like or notice anymore. Anyway that's what I think.

I can't help laughing at it.. He is not all there Confused married out of his league Grin I give it 1 year... She is not as desperate as vicky to hold on to her man! 68*what a joke!

midsomermurderess · 11/04/2022 17:11

'Brooklyn and Nicola partnered with humanitarian agency Care, and invited their guests to contribute to the efforts by the agency to support and provide aid for women, girls, families and the elderly in the war-torn country [Ukraine]'. Look, massive show-off weddings have and will ever be.

ChateauMargaux · 11/04/2022 17:11

Millions all over the world have always been dying and there have always been refugees fleeing oppression. Rich people have always spent their money. Save your anger.

DisforDarkChocolate · 11/04/2022 17:12

The truly rich are there to spend money. I'm sure lots of this trickled down.

IcedPurple · 11/04/2022 17:12

There have been wars happening somewhere in the world pretty much constantly, even if Sky News weren't providing live updates and every other person wasn't colouring their FB profile yellow and blue.

Yes, there is a cost of living crisis but most people in the UK and elsewhere in Europe are still pretty wealthy by international standards.

I do think the wedding is a bit tacky and I don't understand why such incredibly wealthy people feel the need to advertise it on 'Vogue' magazine, but it's not like they'd be giving that money to refugees if they had a more modest wedding.

And how about you OP? I'm sure you enjoy things which would be considered luxuries by many. Have you given up all of that and donated the money to Ukraine?

MsTSwift · 11/04/2022 17:12

Also sickening how wealthy Rishi Sunaks wife is. Know it’s not her fault etc sure she is nice personallly but something is wrong in our system if one family can be that wealthy

Songoftheseas · 11/04/2022 17:13

Why expend energy thinking about things that you have no control over? There will always be rich and poor, there always have been since the dawn of time. I am no fan of the Beckhams but they do a lot for charity and their son is not exactly going to get married in a barn, is he?

Bushkin · 11/04/2022 17:13

I’d rather see rich people spend their money- caterers, waiting staff, bakers, hospitality staff… keeping the economy going is a good thing.

Much better than it languishing in the bank

dudsville · 11/04/2022 17:13

It's not a surprise. Human beings are not primarily good. It's a shame that we allow wealth to accumulate to extreme levels.

dipdye · 11/04/2022 17:13

I could not agree more

Very distasteful

incognitoforthisone · 11/04/2022 17:13

But as we became aware from leaked e-mails, the motivation behind the charity work was to rewarded with some form of honour, preferably a knighthood if I recall.

Well, so what? That doesn't make the money any less useful to the charity, does it? It still does just as much as good as it would if he'd donated anonymously.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 11/04/2022 17:14

What have you donated to charity, OP? I’m presuming for a start that (if you’re married) you had the cheapest wedding possible (a quick ten minute job in a registry office, no reception, guests or fancy clothes) and that you’ve sold anything beautiful you own and donated that money too?

JackieWeaver101 · 11/04/2022 17:14

At least the British taxpayers weren't footing the bill for this wedding.

NecklessMumster · 11/04/2022 17:14

Well I agree with you, especially re the royals. Inequality isn't fair. And most of us work hard, that isn't the point. It's especially tasteless at the moment with fuel and food poverty.

Unforgettablefire · 11/04/2022 17:15

I’m more bothered about how old I feel hearing he got married Confused

Ohfgsnotagain · 11/04/2022 17:15

I couldn’t give a monkeys who Brooklyn Beckham is marrying or how much the weddings has cost. I do care that the papers are greatly him like a so called celebrity which he isn’t, he is simply the off spring of a footballer and a pop star in previous years. Brooklyn has neither a career or talent that we know of so should not be given such a ridiculous amount of column inches!!

Silverswirl · 11/04/2022 17:16

They donate a lot to charity. I wonder what percentage of their total income they donate yearly? I wonder what total percentage you donate yearly? Or any of us on mumsnet donate yearly?

TeaKlaxon · 11/04/2022 17:16

YABU in expecting the wealth of the very rich to be voluntarily used for good.

We need to get over our obsession with philantropy. Tax the rich properly and effectively - particularly by taxing wealth and not just income - and the leave the rich to spend whatever is left over however they choose.

If it is unfair that some people can spend obscene amounts on a wedding while others are going hungry, then that is an argument against a tax system that encourages and perpetuates inequality. Focus your ire on those who keep that system in place, not on those who benefit from it.

MrsWinters · 11/04/2022 17:16

Spending money gets it circulating through the economy. This circus will move provided lots of employment for people, who will in turn spend.

moonbedazzled · 11/04/2022 17:16

But as we became aware from leaked e-mails, the motivation behind the charity work was to rewarded with some form of honour, preferably a knighthood if I recall.

He did it for a knighthood and to increase his private income from the charity wirk. But I don't really care about his motivations. I do care that he did the absolute minimum whilst there and then billed the charity for first class air travel expenses that he never actually incurred.

speakout · 11/04/2022 17:17

Are you married OP?

How much did your wedding cost?

LovelyYellowLabrador · 11/04/2022 17:18

Didn’t Victoria Beckham fashion business, well ahem sham! Business that loses so much money it’s just a vanitity project
Claim furlough benefits from then government then after it came out in public paid it back
That tells you all you need to know !!

godmum56 · 11/04/2022 17:20

"am I being unreasonable"
Yup. Next question.

moonbedazzled · 11/04/2022 17:22

Unicef complained to him about claiming for expenses he hadn't incurred. They were shocked both at that and the fact he refused to do anything more than the bare minimum whilst he was there and all at their expense.
thewooster · 11/04/2022 17:22

Marilyn Munroe said success makes many people hate you. It would be wonderful to enjoy success without seeing envy in the eyes of those around you.

Leave them be, OP as it's their money to spend as they wish.
