To be disgusted by brooklyn Beckham wedding

I know alot of it is probably exajerated by media but to splosh out that much on a completely ott wedding seems quite revolting to me when millions all over the world are dying and how that money could have been spent on helping starving dying children, housing homeless people and helping refugees fleeing from war torture disaster and god knows what. And while I'm having a moan flogging just 1 painting of the royal family could probably solve alot of problems and it makes me sick how they preach to everyone about everything whilst sitting on fortunes t they don't need want and probably don't even like or notice anymore. Anyway that's what I think.

It's not anything new and they won't be the last couple to spend vast amounts on a wedding that is almost certain to end in divorce, given the age of the groom and the fact that neither of them are likely to have any aspirations for their lives, other than living off their parents cash.

Lykia · 11/04/2022 16:42

Yes it was an extravagant affair however think about all the people who they employed/made money out of it. That wedding probably kept a lot of businesses afloat especially after the lean Covid years.

TimBoothseyes · 11/04/2022 16:42

Their money, their choice. I'm more annoyed at how much the Jubilee is costing tbh.....that money could be better spent elsewhere.

Choopi · 11/04/2022 16:43

The brides parents are worth 1.6 billion or something like that. It was never going to be a small do. It's their money at the end of the day. I don't think that people should be able to accumulate such vast wealth in the first place but that is a whole other thread.

Teeturtle · 11/04/2022 16:43

That kind of wealth is unimaginable to me. But then the wealth I have is probably unimaginable to a couple of billion of people on the planet too. So by this reasoning, nobody should do anything whilst there is somebody less well off in life. YABU. Congratulations to the newlyweds.

Lykia · 11/04/2022 16:43

@BulletTrain

All that money goes to the venue, photographers, caterers, suppliers, dressmakers, florists, which employ hundreds of people, who all pay tax. It doesn't go into a hole in the ground. YAB extremely U.

YABU.
Like it not, it's their money and their choice.
The money isn't just thrown away- loads of ordinary people have been paid money for working. If people didn't splash out on wedding photographers etc, they'd be starving and out of work as well.

DressingPafe · 11/04/2022 16:44

If you break it down though, all the money goes somewhere. All the champagne they got through, somewhere down the line there will be vineyards that have "normal" people working for them, who need to earn a living. A lot of the catering staff, wait staff etc, probably normal people who were glad to earn the money. Etc etc. There are many people needing charitable help, but there are also many who rely on the wealthier to earn their living.

DressingPafe · 11/04/2022 16:45

Seems I cross posted with others thinking the same!

FairyCakeWings · 11/04/2022 16:45

Do you criticise everyone that spends a lot of money on a wedding? After all, most of it is unnecessary. Everyone could donate any spare money they have to starving children instead of every experiencing expensive special occasions.

moonbedazzled · 11/04/2022 16:46

I have no respect for David, Victoria or Brooklyn Beckham. But it's their money and they can spend it how they want to. I thought £10,000 on his first birthday was ridiculous and I get there are better ways to spend it, but I think we all know from the leaked David Beckham emails, that he's one of the least charitable people ever.

Whetheryouthinkyoucan · 11/04/2022 16:46

That’s nice for you.

hamdden12 · 11/04/2022 16:47

Average uk wedding costs £17,300 apparently. So how much is acceptable to spend on a wedding because I find that a lot of money for one day.

It's personal choice and it's their money to spend as they want, I don't like the way we guilt trip people with money and demand they solve the world's problems.

Womencanlift · 11/04/2022 16:47

Totally unreasonable OP. They are entitled to spend their money in any way they want. How do you know they don’t contribute to charity?

duvetdayforeveryone · 11/04/2022 16:47

YABVU. The world is shit for many many many reasons, and Brooklyn Beckham having a smaller wedding is not going to change anything!

Kddie · 11/04/2022 16:48

This is exactly what I was going to say!
BulletTrain · 11/04/2022 16:48

It's like saying - as a nation we spent £1bn at Nandos in 2019! That's disgusting! That could have gone to the food bank! While ignoring that they employ 34,000 people.

TurningUpMyStereotype · 11/04/2022 16:49

I have no respect for David, Victoria or Brooklyn Beckham.

They’re going to be gutted. 😬

SniffMyQuiffyHair · 11/04/2022 16:50

Just leave them alone , you don’t know what goes on behind closed doors

daphnedoo12 · 11/04/2022 16:51

I find the whole thing repulsive and distasteful given the current climate. Very tone deaf, but then what do they care?

SleepingStandingUp · 11/04/2022 16:52

Yabu because this isn't the only money they have, so why aren't you complaining that his and her parents aren't already publicly helping? I mean why pick out this particular piece of money. The Beckhams are loaded but her family is richer. They could given millions to charity and still have an ott wedding
Objecting to how they spend one small portion of their wealth on one particular activity seems odd

worriedatthistime · 11/04/2022 16:52

You could say that about everyone , are you having a holiday this year ? Do you have a bigger house than needed ? Did you need to buy alcohol in your shopping etc etc
There all on a grander scale as they have more , plenty probably give to the charoity of their choice or are patrons etc

Mummy1608 · 11/04/2022 16:53

Surely better than hoarding their wealth? I haven't read about the event but an expensive wedding gives a wage to many people including caterers, cleaners, florist, dressmaker, entertainers etc etc. Better for society than it sitting in a bank

Gelasia · 11/04/2022 16:53

Pretty sure people with fortunes keep liking their fortunes.

ilovepixie · 11/04/2022 16:54

Both families are self made millionaires. David especially grew up in a council flat. He wasn't the best footballer at school and a teacher actually told him to take up running as he was better at running than. football. David practiced and practiced football for hours each day to get better and Victoria practiced dancing and singing for hours each day.
Their hard work paid off. They give millions to charity so it's really no one else's business what they spend their money on.
