I know alot of it is probably exajerated by media but to splosh out that much on a completely ott wedding seems quite revolting to me when millions all over the world are dying and how that money could have been spent on helping starving dying children, housing homeless people and helping refugees fleeing from war torture disaster and god knows what. And while I'm having a moan flogging just 1 painting of the royal family could probably solve alot of problems and it makes me sick how they preach to everyone about everything whilst sitting on fortunes t they don't need want and probably don't even like or notice anymore. Anyway that's what I think.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 11/04/2022 17:34

Guessing you didn't get the invitation you were expecting @Airfriedpotatowitch

Phos · 11/04/2022 17:35

Well it's their money

Phos · 11/04/2022 17:35

Do you give every spare bit of cash you have to charity?

IncompleteSenten · 11/04/2022 17:36

Yes.
The world would be a much better place if the insanely rich of the world used their wealth to help others.

There would be no people without access to clean water, etc

But it will never happen.

lollipoprainbow · 11/04/2022 17:36

Plenty of rich celebrities could be helping out why pick on them ??

TyrannosaurusRegina · 11/04/2022 17:36

I don't think this thread is going the way OP wanted it to 😂 I think she was hoping for an echo chamber to sit bumping her gums in...

ElenaSt · 11/04/2022 17:36

What amount would you have liked them to have spent on the wedding?

Three hundred thousand?

Thirty thousand?

Three thousand?

Three hundred?

All those amounts are a lot of money to someone somewhere in the world.

Palavah · 11/04/2022 17:36

It was ever thus.

Fulmine · 11/04/2022 17:36

How much are you giving to those causes, OP?

SofiaSoFar · 11/04/2022 17:37

I don't care.

"Alot" isn't a word, by the way.

Cervinia · 11/04/2022 17:37

I’ve never knowingly contributed a bean towards the Beckhams wealth and I can’t stand any of them. But, it’s money they have earned and it’s theirs to do as they wish. I’m sure they’ve paid their taxes in their time too. They may donate millions to starving children, war torn countries and the homeless already and still have money for an expensive wedding.

Here’s a grip.

Hawkins001 · 11/04/2022 17:38

@Rocket1982

Better that they spend it on a wedding and put it back into the economy than just having it sitting in a bank account on the Cayman Islands. But yeah, extreme inequality IS disgusting. It’s disgusting that 2000 billionaires have as much wealth as 60% of people on the planet. Until we even out this travesty of justice we won’t get rid of war and avoidable human suffering.
Let's say, wealth was redistributed, everyone had equal amount, after x year's, some will have saved some, have invested some will have spent it, then what, as the similar situations would arise, ?
felulageller · 11/04/2022 17:40

Yes there's something quite tacky about the whole thing.

But... If there are going to be rich people (which is a political choice we are all party to) then them spending their wealth on a wedding is actually one of the few ways it ever 'trickles down'. Plenty of ordinary pay bracket people will have earned some money from this.

It's much better than trips to mars/ the moon.

But yes I wish our age had an Andrew Carnegie.

SleepingStandingUp · 11/04/2022 17:40

@user1471538283

It was insensitive and insufferable.
Why do you have to suffer it tho? No one is forcing you to know about how Nelson Peltz spends his money.
TheKeatingFive · 11/04/2022 17:41

It's all relative OP. To a large proportion of the world you are disgustingly wealthy and I'm sure you also spend your wealth on nice things for your friends and family.

Where should we draw the line between what's acceptable and what isn't?

lemongreentea · 11/04/2022 17:41

Its an insane amount of money to spend on a marriage but most likely wont last. But to put it into perspective its the rough equivalent of us plebs forking out around 2k on a wedding.

They also have to keep up appearances as they live a crazy lifestyle.

I still cant work out why she would willingly marry him out of all the people in the world. But love eh

NeverChange · 11/04/2022 17:41

So the cost of doing business is increasing the world over and many people are cutting back on their spending as they have no other choice.

Now imagine if the wealthy also didn't spend, where would we be in terms of job losses and companies collapsing.

If the wealth didn't spend, then the less wealthy would also struggle even more due to the knock on effects.

Hotels, airlines, florists, cake makers, food suppliers, entertainment etc. There is a knock on effect. We need the wealth to keep spending!

Yellownightmare · 11/04/2022 17:41

The cost of the wedding is providing income for lots of people. If they didn't spend their money, would that be better?

I'm far more annoyed with people avoiding tax on the millions they have stashed away, than people spending their money.

mumofEandE · 11/04/2022 17:42

3million is probably the equivalent of a 'normal' UK wedding costing £20,000

Coffeeholix · 11/04/2022 17:42

The Beckhams have made their money fair and square. It’s their choice how they spend it. They, and the Peltzes, donate a large chunk of their money to charity, so they do share it around. Yes it’s an obscene amount of money, more than most of us can imagine, but it’s their decision. To all the people saying it’s disgusting, people poorer than you who might balk at some of your spending choices. It’s all relative.

Rocket1982 · 11/04/2022 17:42

I’m not suggesting total equality but extreme inequality is totally unfair and is maintained by the elite who create global financial and political systems to serve themselves. Inequality is rising and rising and it is now way out of control. There needs to be more redistribution.

TheKeatingFive · 11/04/2022 17:44

Inequality is rising and rising and it is now way out of control. There needs to be more redistribution.

I hope that when people say this, they realise that in global terms they would end up with less rather than more.

EdgyNeonAnt · 11/04/2022 17:45

I don't see what else they were meant to do? It was always going to be splashed around the media.
Unless you're up there with the likes of Elon Musk, there are always going to be a lot of people with significantly more money than you. Similarly, there will be lots with significantly less.

Kinneddar · 11/04/2022 17:46

There are always poverty issues in the world along with other problems. Where do you propose drawing the line. Should my friend cancel the family holiday to Disney & instead donate the money and stay home. What about people buying cars. Buy a banger & donate the rest you planned on spending.

People are entitled to spend their money how they want.

The Beckhams give generously to charity & apparantly the Peltz do too. Do you?

mydogisthebest · 11/04/2022 17:47

I am not disgusted by it but I do think the cost is ridiculous. Mind you I think that about most weddings and at least they didn't have to go into debt to afford it like some people do.

Be interesting to see how long the marriage lasts. Among people I know the ones that spent a fortune on their wedding were all divorced within 8 years
