To write my neighbour a letter

Bridie20 · 08/04/2022 19:42

They’re not a next door neighbour think number 85 and 65 type neighbours.

We’ve lived here 4.5 years, obviously in 2020 started walking lots. Noticed that on their front garden wall (the one which joins their garden to their next door neighbour) is a boot. A womens shoe. This was in 2020. The boot is still there.

WIBU to write an anonymous letter asking them what their intention is with this boot? It’s a black, suede ankle boot with a 2 inch heel. We only spotted it cos we thought it was a cat (lockdown led us to going cat spotting on our daily walks ffs).

Wtf? 😂

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

Is it near a lamp-post or telegraph pole? If so, put up two notices: one official-looking one giving notice that planning permission has been requested for the permanent locating of a second boot; and another lonely-hearts style one with a photo of the boot, saying "Single boot, lives on a garden wall - WLTM similar for good times, companionship and to share the rest of my life with. Must be a kind sole; strictly NO espadrilles".

“but wouldn’t you be slightly confused if you saw a boot on a wall which had been left for years?”
Nah

youkiddingme · 08/04/2022 22:33

I knew someone who put a pair of wellies in a tree in her garden. She thought it looked 'magical' - like a pixie or fairy or something had been climbing the tree and lost their boots. I thought it just looked like someone had wanted some old wellies up her tree - but she claimed the grandchildren loved it.

Anyway each to their own - stop dissing your neighbour's wall decoration.

youkiddingme · 08/04/2022 22:34
  • wanged not wanted some wellies

There's been a random child's bobble hat left on someone's gate post for months here. It's been there through snow and rain. Still there.

Calandor · 08/04/2022 22:59

Go knock and ask 😂

XenoBitch · 08/04/2022 23:01

It clearly bothers them a lot less than it bothers you. And how are you going to get a reply from an anonymous letter?

Suzi888 · 08/04/2022 23:02

Perhaps wind your neck in

Mountainpika · 08/04/2022 23:09

I shall go to sleep tonight pondering on The Boot. Whose is/was it? How did it get there? What could be done with it? I rather like the idea of the Old Woman who lived in a shoe. Or might it be a family of mice? Make some little mice and put in it.

AChocolateOrangeaday · 08/04/2022 23:34

You mentioned a cat.

Are you sure it isn't Bagpuss waiting for the owner to collect and make a pair?

mumwon · 09/04/2022 00:30

I always got confused by the series Das Boot about a submarine (looses track of conversation & enters random comment) I watched the original german subtitled one
Talking about a boot reminded me of this

Is it a daddy size boot, mummy size boot or baby boot. Maybe they waiting for the 3 bears to pick it up.

vodkaredbullgirl · 09/04/2022 03:00

In fact do bears even wear boots.

IamTheEvilPea · 09/04/2022 03:06

@KineticSand

The posters saying elderly think the house numbers are ages.
Why would they do that?! 🤣🤣
Lofari · 09/04/2022 03:08

Got any of your DC outgrown shoes OP? If so add just one to the wall so Boot has a little friend

Airfriedpotatowitch · 09/04/2022 03:10

It is the boot of their long lost so he dropped it there and it is the last memory of him that they have (he was trans) they like it it brings them comfort leave them alone. OR they put it there to laugh at their puzzled neighbours faces

I live in a town centre and have had weird things pop up in my back yard and then disappear a few days later! I tend to just leave them and they go. These include:

A baby carseat

A foot spa

A child’s bicycle

A spatula

A map of Nottinghamshire

LBFseBrom · 09/04/2022 04:43

Does it matter?

OutingHobby · 09/04/2022 05:06

My DS lost a shoe in 2009. Came home from school wearing his trainers and only one school shoe in his back pack, other must have fallen out on the walk home as later (weeks later) it was discovered outside the local kebab shop...which my son said he didnt get food from on the way home... These mysteries often resolve for themselves.
