Deeply concerned about Child Safety in Bristol

MatthewJTaylor · 07/04/2022 21:28

From May 5th to May 8th 2022, the Tobacco Factory Theatres in Bristol is having performances of "The Family Sex Show".
This show is aimed at children 5 years old and up.
The performers involved get naked.
The discussion with the children is on sex, sexuality and sexual pleasure.

I cannot imagine brining a 5 year old child to a theatre where people will to to her/him about sex and show their naked bodies to her/him.

Am I the crazy one?

@LizzieVereker

The website really concerns me. It says it big letters that it’s amimed at age 5+, but little questions pop up such as “I can’t find the clitoris”. How is that relevant to a five year old? That is normalising the treatment of children as sexual beings.

I’m so sick of this shit, I’m sick of women and children being dragged into someone else’s performance sex or fetish.

Viewing is by ticket only, you won't be dragged.

@RedHelenB

From what I can understand from the promotion, parents can see what the content is before deciding on if it is suitable for children?

I'd be seriously concerned about parents who decided it was suitable for their children.

Also, the glossary shows there's a clear, though unstated, transactivist agenda.
Terms like AMAB and AFAB "assigned male/female at birth" no, humans are not 'assigned' a sex, their sex is determined at conception and recorded at birth.
"TERF" = a person who excludes the rights of transgender women from their work on women's rights. Women have the legal and moral right to single-sex spaces such as toilets and changing-rooms; TERF is an insult thrown at women who wish to keep this right. Males do not have a right to use women's single-sex spaces although they demand it.

@Lockheart no I certainly won’t but small children won’t be marching to the box office and buying their own tickets either will they?

you know what. I want my kids to have a great sex life. But I want it to be their private and personal business. Im answer questions and they come to me and ask all sorts, and always have. From periods and tampons, to porn. In an age appropriate way and with nobody's agenda.

But parading your sex life all over the bloody shop. No thanks. Keep your kinks and your exhibitionism to yourselves.

I've just looked, they have sold tickets. It's a no from me personally but the concept seems good, just not 5, too young - 11 + maybe
@FrancescaContini you'll have to point out these "very serious issues" because so far all I'm seeing is a lot of conjecture about the contents of the show (I haven't seen it despite the fact it's been going since 2019 so I can only comment on what's on their website), worry about children seeing naked people (which unlike the majority of MN I do not consider on a par with the last days of Rome), implications of paedophilia, and the phrase "groomy as fuck" which I would not call "raising a serious issue".
I can't do anything about the people who are fine with this
PIE 2.0 and all that

If you can't see the issue with the points raised already, does this statement ring any alarm bells? "We want to talk about sex with people who want to talk about sex. As adults we can make that choice, as kids, we should know what it is and be given the language to make that choice"

There is no reason at all this should be presented to young children. Teach them boundaries, not this. It's making sex look like fun play....oh, I wonder how that might impact on a child being targeted for abuse..

Normalisation of explicit content for young children. Have you heard of MAPs? A small segment of society, but deeply deeply troubling.

To those who cannot see a problem with this, why do infant-aged children need to be educated about sexual pleasure?

This is grooming in plain sight. I would wonder about the sort of parents who thought it was suitable for their children.

@FOJN

Early and precocious language about sex is a massive red flag for abuse.

Teach them the words early enough as part of "educating" them and you can start to claim precocious language is not a red flag.

Normalise adults they are not related to getting naked in front of them and they won't see the red flag.

Talk to them about using pleasure as a vehicle for consent and you prime them to blame themselves for any abuse they may suffer.

How is this sort of thing not sounding a national safeguarding alarm? It is endangering children not protecting them, 5 years old is too young to understand the complexities around sex, relationships and consent. They need to understand the basics about types of families and what behaviour is normal between adults and children. They need to know they should tell someone and are NEVER responsible when an adult breeches those behaviour boundaries.

Good points. This whole thing is one giant red flag. Parents as well as children are being groomed here -- some are gullible enough to think this is progressive.

Exactly this...They even state it under their guff on safeguarding! Basically if a child is using sexual words, otherwise cause for alarm its fine cos they can say they've seen the show. GROOMING and setting up excuses out in the open.

@LittleSnakes

Don't holiday in German then, plenty of people swim naked in hotel pools. Nakedness isn't an issue in context
@FuckeryOmbudsman - I do not believe that any 5 year old, ever, has asked a question about sexual pleasure in the classroom, unless they're a victim of CSA.

Early and precocious language about sex is a massive red flag for abuse. Which I'm sure you know as a teacher.

You are a teacher aren't you?
Yes, this, I've done a fair few safeguarding courses and a 5 year old asking about sexual pleasure is no question straight to the safeguarding lead. Massive red flag. Every single safeguarding course says this.

WTF? When did it become acceptable to talk to 5 year olds about sexual pleasure in a setting full of strangers, some of whom might remove their clothes if they felt like it?

We all know what this is 😡

Yes! I’m sick of this too. I’m particularly sick of it when it’s legitimised through some arty farty intellectualised vehicle. Like, if only we were more enlightened, we d see that treating children as sexual objects was in fact ok. Boils my bloody blood.

This reminds me, a lot, of Drag Queen reading hour at children's library's. Certain sections of society absolutely are interested in sexualising children.

Looking at a certain Mr Tatchell as a prime example.

It''s abhorrent. This is the end game.
