At this moment in time, I couldn’t give a flying fuck who is trying to gather votes. I don’t care who is finally saying something sensible.

The fact that it’s Tory BJ is irrelevant to me. So what if they’re harvesting votes?

Labour have been abysmal re this. Won’t namecheck everyone, but David “dinosaur” Lammy can do one and Lisa “let any gender have a prison of their choosing” Nandy can do one too. Obviously, many more to add to the list.

Labour WILL try to get through self-ID and that is the hill I’ll die on.

I urge everyone to email your MP’s. Especially if you are voting Tory kind of “against your will”.

Email-bomb all candidates at every election - I will be sending one email to all candidates, so that they all know they’ve had the same email. It will say why I “probably” will vote Tory - because no other party will define what a woman is. But I’ll also be heavily stressing that womens spaces need to be protected - changing rooms, prisons, DV and rape centres, hospitals/medical settings, sports, business awards.

Make no mistake - if the Tories do win on this point, there will be a concerted effort to make them accountable. It’s not enough to “win” a vote on this basis - we all need to make sure they follow through with their policies.

The Tories are not great. But Labour have quite clearly told women to STFU. I’d rather have a buffoon look after the class hamster during the Easter holidays, as opposed to an idiot who let the hamster die rather than admit that it existed.

GreenUp · 07/04/2022 02:33

@Scorchedterf

I’ll be voting for my Tory councillors but unfortunately my MP is Crispin Blunt who is currently chucking his toys out of his prank about this. Crispin Blunt is full on Stonewall Trans Women are Women etc. So I definitely won’t be voting for him. I’m hoping that he will be deselected by his party as soon as possible. He is odious and self serving and dismissive of the people who voted for him.
Can you please, please write to Blunt and tell him what a complete misogynist he is. I can't tell you how odious and abusive of women I find that man especially after he tried to get the Surrey police commissioner Lisa Townsend in trouble for supporting womens' rights.

I'd like to write to some of these MPs like Lammy and Blunt but I think their assistants wouldn't care and would automatically bin my letters as I am not their constituent.

@SmellyOldOwls

' I’m glad that it’s being discussed by our most senior politicians we know they are point scoring but it’s too important to not be discussed openly at such a high level'

This is the crux of the matter. Most replies on this thread acknowledge that Boris is - well he is what he is, he's not someone I would ever vote for. It's the fact that discussion on this is opening up, that this opinion is one we are 'allowed' to have, that freedom of expression is returning that's worth celebrating. This is what GC feminists - particularly those who have been dragged through the courts - have been fighting for.

I think maybe this element is getting missed by people.It's not just the direct effects of these policy initiatives that have turned people away from voting for Labour and others. It's the way they have dealt with the problem and people who have had concerns, trying to make it a subject that can't be discussed by accusing people of being bigots. That's all very disturbing in itself.
MangyInseam · 07/04/2022 02:55

Who owns the media who brings this stuff to light? It's right wing conservative millionaires like Rupert Murdock

So better is the left wing media that buries it, so it can quietly be institutionalized without the public noticing?

If the "right wing press" are bringing it to our attention because they know we'll object to it, that's a good thing. That is their job.

The people that caused this are the activists pushing it, the people supporting them quietly and hooping no one raised a fuss. Which happen to be the bloody progressive left, although frankly they aren't particularly left however they identify.

Blaming the ones who brought it to the public's attention is bizarre.

Malteser71 · 07/04/2022 03:02

Bravo, Boris

radiohp · 07/04/2022 03:13

@BorisKilledMyHusband

Still won't vote for him though. He is responsible for my DH's death.
How so?
Turningpurple · 07/04/2022 04:08

Its so odd when people say 'he is only saying this to get votes'.

Why did Keir Starmer give his view? Do you think Keir Starmer, doesn't believe what he said and only said it to get votes? Or does he actually believe it and doesn't care that it makes them less popular?

I actually believe that Boris johnson does believe what he says. Because its obvious to most people. I also believe that Keir Starmer knows that biology matters. But said what said to to try and gain votes. I don't believe that so many of the 'TWAW' can't actually see why that's not true. Both sides are using it to get votes.

I don't think that means Boris Johnson will do anything meaningful about it. But Keir Starmer and the Labour Party have shown they will throw women under the bus for votes. They are no different to the Tories in that respect.

But we have a while before the GE. There's Alison Baileys case and similar to come up soon. These cases bring to light how ridiculous the whole situation is.

And anyone saying 'I would rather men play on women's teams than have women and children starving' are either being obtuse or don't really understand the full impact on women.

And at the moment where are Labour giving a solid plan for fixing the cost of living crisis?

What I do know is voting for Labour will be throwing my own daughter under the bus. I can't do that.

At the very least, this has signalled it will be an important part of the election. And its actually brought the issue to the minds of people that posters claim dont care because they don't discuss it.

The legal cases, political debate on it etc will mean more people have an active opinion on it.

Selkiesarereal · 07/04/2022 05:24

The problem with the left is that many of their supporters and members have been trying to get them to listen only to be ignored, gaslight or told that they were bigots. Except we aren’t.

We have become disillusioned with Labour and they had plenty of opportunities to listen to us but it would appear that they are happy to be openly misogynistic towards us which came as a real shock. Many of us are now in agreement with the Tories who at least have appeared to listen so Labour either needs to quickly let the grown ups back in charge or continue to self destruct.

IHateCoronavirus · 07/04/2022 05:28

Well said Boris.

NowNowDermot · 07/04/2022 05:43

I emailed my (Labour) MP last night, first time I've felt brave enough to put my name to anything but the more the likes of Boris speak up the more of us will find that courage. I focused entirely on women and pointed out that Labour are badly misjudging the public mood on this issue and therefore leaving the door wide open for the tories to take the female votes they are losing by the bucketload. I also mentioned how many women are saying this is important enough to garner single-issue votes for whichever party are actually prepared to stand up for women. If enough of us do this maybe they will realise

chaosrabbitland · 07/04/2022 06:12

@knowinglesseveryday

A real Tory outing on here tonight, Trump style.
hmm ,. and if i remember rightly the intellect of many trump supporters was called into question and his presidency was farce its not for nothing that johnson and trump shared some similarites or should that be quite a few ? and of course they both got on very well

we have our own clown running the country , the difference is americans got theirs out . england is dumb enough to vote theirs back in again

Polyanthus2 · 07/04/2022 06:30

england is dumb enough to vote theirs back in again

Well they will now.

And it's UK not just England.

Polyanthus2 · 07/04/2022 06:33

Scott Morrison has said the same - so that's two western leaders

Kreuzberg · 07/04/2022 06:35

Feeding your family, heating your home, more cuts to public services, stories of corruption and deceit v
erosion of womens rights. Difficult one. But still can't vote tory. Going to be some very odd bedfellows voting in another tory government, a bit like brexit I guess - left wing feminists and socially conservative brexiteer types with very different economic views. Can't wait to see that one. I'll see what Starmer says and what Johnson actually does before I make up my mind.

Kreuzberg · 07/04/2022 06:37

@Polyanthus2 another moron with a poor record and reputation just trying to garner votes Hmm.

Polyanthus2 · 07/04/2022 06:49

@Kreuzberg as long as they are trying to garner votes for statements I agree with that's fine with me!!

Inkanta · 07/04/2022 06:52

The population overall either agrees with him, or agrees with him more than they do Labour. They hate things like men in women's sports, and men in women's prisons. So he has every reason, as a populist, to take the approach of rolling back the capture of these kinds of institutions

Yes!

bellinisurge · 07/04/2022 06:57

The people who supported him (reluctantly or otherwise) and despise him after Covid, needed an excuse to feel better about backing him. And Labour has handed it too him on a plate. Do they think their semantic waffling will play with voters when a rape victim was disbelieved in hospital for a year because of de facto self ID.

Carbiesdreamhouse · 07/04/2022 07:02

I suspect I agree with Carrie rather than Boris. He did a good job of putting it out there plainly though and I can see a lot of people down the pub nodding their heads.

I wouldn't vote Tory though, they don't care about anything but themselves. I'd rather spoil my vote.

Snog · 07/04/2022 07:11

Boris definitely trumps Keir on this subject and it's an important subject.

Alisae · 07/04/2022 07:27

I’ll hold my nose and vote for him.

I also would not be surprised to see the Tory party move in on this now.

The silencing of professional women, the copious rape/death threats, ridiculous school guidance and training, drag queen story time and puppy play tents aimed at children (both sometimes complete with erections), rapes of women in prison and hospitals, attacks on children in changing rooms, men identifying as women a few days a week and winning places/awards meant for women, men with beards telling everyone who doesn’t believe their penis isn’t a lady dick to suck it, the porn littering the comments on JKR’s lists for children.

The list goes on and on. And it is political gold! No sane person is going to be for ANY of it, and the visceral reaction from the public will be disgust.

Some TRA’s are right about the fact that the majority of people don’t really know what is going on. BUT we do know that when people find out, they are often completely horrified.

I believe the Tory party are about to change this. There is blood in the water. They will absolutely capitalise on this and make it the issue of the day, because it makes Labour look like complete idiots. If they can’t figure out the difference in men and women, or openly state they believe in a fairytale, then how could they be trusted to govern anything at all?

And I don’t much care anymore which political party is dragging this in to the sun. I’m only happy that at least one of them is.

CaptSkippy · 07/04/2022 07:46

It sucks that only conservatives are saying this, because they are a danger to women's rights in many other ways.

Datada · 07/04/2022 07:49

This is the most articulate that Boris has ever been! And said with conviction. 10/10. The Tories may have realised that women now have the vote, and are 50% of the population?
Mind the broken swing though.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 07/04/2022 08:07

@TheKeatingFive

So please, if you have compelling arguments then use them, political discourse is all the better for it. But cut out this tribalistic polarisation, remove the hyperbole, give up on the ineffective emotional blackmail, and make an actual bloody point.

So much this

Yep
NippyWoowoo · 07/04/2022 08:13
@NippyWoowoo
And guaranteed whether or not a trans woman can compete with other women in a cycling competition is the last thing on their minds

They'd probably care if their daughter was in the race as well.
Yes, a lot of 'what ifs' and hypothetical situations, meanwhile the cost of living crisis is real, happening now and not just affecting the poorest in society. So again, don't care what Boris says, agreeing with him doesn't change the very real struggle that many of us are facing with day-to-day living.
