trib.al/ov5g0nj I can’t stand the throes but agree with this

@Aaaabbbcccc

But Labour's Angela Rayner attacked the PM's words, saying: 'He throws his two pence in, causes so much damage and screw the consequences. I remain of the firm view Boris Johnson is a real liability.' That is all she has, pathetic.
Well there's your answer - she hasn't got one.

That does not mean we all have to take him at this word. Really. Both of them need to show what they can do about it.

Otherwise its a lot of dancing around the issue and no action. Politicians love that. Very cheap. Lots of pats from loyalists.

Westchesterarms · 06/04/2022 23:50

@LexMitior And if he does unpick it, would you vote for him?

If there's a good result for women, I am pro Johnson.

That's a fair answer then. I guess we wait and review in 2024 to see who you're voting for. 😉

Beamur · 06/04/2022 23:52

Once again Boris displays, with surprising finesse, what keeps the Tories in power. They can read the room. They've seen several Labour politicians skewered answering questions on this topic and are putting ideological distance between themselves and people who can't define a woman.

Westchesterarms · 06/04/2022 23:53

@NippyWoowoo
And guaranteed whether or not a trans woman can compete with other women in a cycling competition is the last thing on their minds

They'd probably care if their daughter was in the race as well.

LexMitior · 06/04/2022 23:55

@Westchesterarms - he can change and review all the schools, health, justice and social care policies, and review all the implementation of them, including the text, and ask the relevant departments to justify the reasoning for those policies, with the officials responsible.

Or he can cock on about sport. The one thing he doesn't control.

comberbird · 06/04/2022 23:56

Fishfingers- everything you write everything should be read and understood by men and women: brilliant

liliainterfrutices · 07/04/2022 00:01

@magicofthefae

Of course women's rights and lesbian rights have to be respected and upheld. I agree with Boris on this point. Biological females etc. 100% agree. Rape is never ok, whether is a female or male or straight or lesbian or gay victim. It's never ok. Labours stance on this is appalling. But my actual point was the direction the country is taking, under Boris/Sunak, most of the women (if they are not upper-middle class and affluent) would die out of food and fuel poverty first or raped via street homelessness etc first ....before such things like rape in prison would happen, which in every case is horrendous.
This is absolutely true. The desperation and anguish in this country at the moment is heartbreaking. The idea that Johnson, who has a pretty shocking history of offensive comments about women, will get back into power on this is the most depressing thing I’ve seen since Dec 2019. As if he gives a shit about women. And yes I do wish Labour would find some guts somewhere.
knowinglesseveryday · 07/04/2022 00:06

A real Tory outing on here tonight, Trump style.

MangyInseam · 07/04/2022 00:06

It was Starmer’s quote in the link I looked for as he is the leader of the party. It wasn’t great in terms of clarity.

And Rayner has further undermined their position today.

I know you are happy with their messaging but it’s too muddled and it’s not hitting home with the majority interested in this issue.

Part of the problem for Labour is they have waffled and been obscure, and arguably outright sneaky, in statement on this issue. So things like saying they will maintain women only spaces, while neglecting to mention that they mean (male) transwoman would be included in those spaces too.

It means if they want people to believe them on women's rights in these areas they are going to have to be crystal clear and say the whole thing out loud, including the stuff they might prefer not to say.

They aren't going to be able to sit on the fence or even just hope the activist lot won't notice they've jumped off.

KittyLeMew · 07/04/2022 00:11

Yes! I agree with Boris!

Lifting from @JaninaDuszejko

  • No males in female sports
  • Children can't be Gillick competent to make decisions on irreversible treatments
  • Women only spaces need to be retained
AtrociousCircumstance · 07/04/2022 00:11

Boris is horrific. I agree. The Tories are a hateful scourge. But right now he is all we’ve got in terms of this issue. And thank god he is speaking up, maybe others will follow suit.

This issue matters so much for so many reasons. Compelled speech; thought crimes; closure of debate; online aggression and bullying; gaslighting; the oppression of a lie held up as a truth; being forced to agree that 2+2=5 or you’re a bigot, you might lose you job, your friends, your reputation; the loss of physical safety for women; the loss of freedom of thought and speech for women; the destruction of women’s sport; the loss of support structures for women - like support groups for rape survivors; the damage done to vulnerable children; the pressure to stop women from speaking up against this threat to vulnerable children; the reinforcement of gross gender stereotypes as what determines a woman; the removal of safe single sex spaces of all kinds; the fact that women and girls are nine times more likely to be raped in gender neutral toilets; the monstrous madness of male sex offenders being allowed into women’s prisons.

And more.

MintJulia · 07/04/2022 00:13

So do I. Also think the govt stance on conversion therapy, specifically for trans children is right.

A parent has to be able to talk to their child about transitioning, from all sides, without being falling foul of an ill-considered law.

MintJulia · 07/04/2022 00:14

@knowinglesseveryday

A real Tory outing on here tonight, Trump style.
Hardly. It's one issue out of many.
Monitaurus · 07/04/2022 00:16

If only the govt would repeal the GRA and get rid of the GRC it would really help us to see that actions matter more than cynical use of what we already know. Yes I am always pleased to hear anybody telling the truth on this, but I remain a vote spoiler

EthelTheAardvark · 07/04/2022 00:24

@HerbertChops

Never voted conservative in my life until the last election. They didn’t get in where I live but I couldn’t vote libdems (who are in here) or labour or greens. Who else is there that understands a woman is an adult human female?
... and thinks that adult human females are there to be lied to and cheated on when he decides he wants to move on to the next one? And thinks that "girly swot" is an insult? And refused to vote against decriminalising abortion in Northern Ireland? And says that women who wear burkas choose to go around looking like letterboxes? And told voters that voting Conservative would cause their wives to have bigger breasts? And who criticised “the modern Briton and his reluctance or inability to take control of his woman”? And who though it was OK to review the quality of the “hot totty” available at a party conference? and on, and on, and on ...

Would that be the supporter of human females that you are thinking of voting for?

liliainterfrutices · 07/04/2022 00:25

Well said, Ethel

Oh. So if he reviews the policies for each of those 4 depts as you've described, you'd vote for him? Or, honestly, would you never really vote for him? Because the more you write, the more you sound like you wouldn't vote Conservative. I think you said on one thread that people voting Conservative were "stupid". But maybe you're more flexible than you sound?

Utterly pointless question, really, because he is never going to review all those policies in a million years. Firstly because he's far too lazy, and secondly because he's perfectly happy with policies that make life increasingly hellish for the poor whilst leaving him and his mates comfortably off and doing very nicely indeed out of the government contracts gravy train.

Unicorndreams24 · 07/04/2022 00:43

I am so glad someone has had the balls to actually talk about this! It's ridiculous ! Someone I know has actually named their child which can be used for male and females incase her daughter may want to transition Into a male later on! Planting seeds come to mind 🙄

Westchesterarms · 07/04/2022 00:44

My point wasn't for you, though. It was specific to LexMitior who I was in a conversation with over how they were going to vote and they said they were pro Johnson under certain conditions. I was trying to find out and define those conditions. So my question wasn't pointless at all.

Go Boris!

dewl · 07/04/2022 01:02

I have been a Labour member my whole adult life, but I 100% agree with Boris here.

@AtrociousCircumstance
Absolutely, all those things you mention are bound up in this….for those who say aren’t there more important things.

Notcontent · 07/04/2022 01:10

I agree with Boris on this too!! Never thought I would say that.

dewl · 07/04/2022 01:14

I'm also considering voting Tory. Something I thought I'd never say.
