trib.al/ov5g0nj I can’t stand the throes but agree with this

We know how ambitious and ruthless he is and a master of political manipulation

But that he has has spoken out in support of what many women have been saying he isn’t afraid to ruffle feathers he has not hidden behind a load of waffle he has not concerned himself with offending a few and now this is pushed to the forefront of political debate

And that’s what many of us want to hear shame Starmer didn’t say the same if he did we wouldn’t be having this conversation! but Starmer decided it was more important to side with a few trans women than taken into account women’s concerns

Aaaabbbcccc · 06/04/2022 22:59

Labour are utterly pointless.

ilovesooty · 06/04/2022 23:00

@Iggly

Boris Johnson is famed for saying what he thinks people wants to hear.

See Brexit with his two articles and then he plumps for the most popular option.

I think it’s the same for this. I suspect he’s practiced and practised this line before trotting it out so he can say it clearly. He’s not normally so articulate.

So I don’t trust him to actually deliver. All of the concerns about womens rights and the importance of biology have happened under the Conservatives.

There’s an election coming and he’s making the moves now. As soon as he wins that election as swathes of people get over excited, he’ll go back to bluster and dithering and little will change.

Absolutely. It's like "Get Brexit Done" all over again.

Hell would freeze over before I'd vote for any party led by him, whatever he says or doesn't say.

Aaaabbbcccc · 06/04/2022 23:00

Life long labour voter - no more.

Dimondsareforever · 06/04/2022 23:01

Another agree vote from me! For once no fluster and bluster. Just straight talking sense!

cherish123 · 06/04/2022 23:01

I don't normally agree with him but I agree with everything he says

Hasselhoffsheadband · 06/04/2022 23:01

@magicofthefae

I'm genuinely shocked at how many posters on here are falling for his BS....I can't believe they can't see through his game and strategy. People actually considering voting for this man, despite everything he and his party have done....just because he speaks logic and ethics on this ONE topic. I'm astounded....how they fall for it.
We can see through his bullshit. But to be honest, after literally years of being gaslighted on this issue, after years of being told we are awful disgusting bigots because we don't want males in female spaces and sports, we don't want to be referred to as 'bodies with vaginas', we don't want kids to be put on medicalised pathways, to be told we are 'dinosaurs' who are 'hoarding rights' it's quite frankly astonishing to hear a politicians, let alone the actual Prime Minister, talk common sense on this issue.

And now we have to think about what comes next.

FishfingersAndCustard86 · 06/04/2022 23:02

I agree with Boris on this one thing.....but still never gonna vote Tory for this reason. I would rather let a transgender individual win in a sports race (trivial in comparison to food and fuel poverty, housing crisis etc), than vote for a Tory party whose policies actively promote the poor getting poorer and increased levels of child poverty etc (truly serious matters)

It’s not just a sporting win vs Labour magically solving poverty is it?

What are you saying? That rape of women in prisons and hospitals does not matter? The rape and filming of children in changing rooms?

Women’s rape centres being closed because women don’t want to counselled by a man? Or to be roomed with one? Does that not matter?

Lesbians receiving death and rape threats because they don’t want to have sex with a man? Nah, they’ll be just fine.

Women who are at the top of their field, academics, lawyers, losing their jobs because they KNOW that a human can not change their sex. Universities allowing brainwashed mobs of student to harass and threaten anyone with a differing opinion (or basic grasp of reality). Is that not an issue?

If you really think the issue is just men in our sports vs poverty, the you either haven’t been paying attention or are being deliberately obtuse.

By the by, if the last few elections have taught us anything, it should be that being:

Shocked
Appalled
Mystified
Bemused
Weepy
Horrified
Disgusted
Furious etc. with other peoples voting choices does NOTHING. It doesn’t change minds. You can’t guilt or shame someone in to voting the way you do.

So please, if you have compelling arguments then use them, political discourse is all the better for it. But cut out this tribalistic polarisation, remove the hyperbole, give up on the ineffective emotional blackmail, and make an actual bloody point.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 06/04/2022 23:03

Like, i remember feeling so hearted a few months ago when Liz Truss said 'women do have vaginas Nick' on the radio! How have we got to this position?

DomesticatedZombie · 06/04/2022 23:03

Three generations of lefties here.

No more. Until they LISTEN to women they can fuck off. And I don't just mean Labour, I mean all of them: SNP, Greens, Libdems.

So much this

HesterShaw1 · 06/04/2022 23:05

We can still be pleased that a high ranking politician is saying what needs saying without forgetting all his previous bullshit.

Why are people so binary?

DahliaMacNamara · 06/04/2022 23:05

How can you agree with someone who believes nothing? He will spout whatever seems expedient on any given day. He has very little respect for anybody else, and is certainly no champion of women. Whatever you think about what he said, you'd be a fool to think he wouldn't say something different tomorrow if he was looking for approval from another direction.

Yes.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 06/04/2022 23:09

Lisa Nandy is on record as saying that she believes that a male rapist should be housed in a female prison if that's where he wants to go.

Alex Sobel tweeted 'I don't need the votes of bigots thanks' - 'bigots' in this case being women who think that women should be allowed to have single sex hospitals, prisons and refuges.

So please, could the 'you're all being played' brigade please tell us what we are supposed to do in this situation?

MangyInseam · 06/04/2022 23:10

@Mumofsend

I do too. Although I dislike that he is clearly targeting this as an election boosting thing.
I don't really understand this? It's not a manufactured controversy - that can be a thing but this isn't an example of it.

And politicians are hardly going to sway the public by talking about things the public doesn't care about.

Of course they are going to talk about controversies the public is invested in.

Sausageandeggs · 06/04/2022 23:11

@Weirdwonders Don’t be daft. Nothing about my comment suggested that it was the only thing.

LexMitior · 06/04/2022 23:12

The basic thing is, I won't bother with this unless his government, which represents the party that supported the trans policy mess, actually does something in legal terms to unpick what has happened on their watch to the public sector which has generated policies that they, the Conservative Party, approved and put forward, from hospitals to prisons. Sport... well that's easy. Government is not in charge of sport.

They can. They have two years until the next election.

Then, only then, will I take this statement seriously. Until then, I won't give a damn. It is meaningless. Government by soundbite.

BashfulClam · 06/04/2022 23:12

Oh that would be the guy who said he wouldn’t raise taxation on workers before getting elected then did exactly that. I’d rather angle grind my clit and treat it with neat vinegar than ever trust him. First chance he has to make money out if it he’ll u turn.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/04/2022 23:12

Alex Sobel tweeted 'I don't need the votes of bigots thanks'

That's quite ok Alex.

ClinkeyMonkey · 06/04/2022 23:12

@Iggly Personally I'm glad SOMEBODY is saying what people want to hear. I can't give Boris my vote (even if I wanted to, ha!), as I live in NI and we don't get a say in who ends up running the Westminster shit show. We just have to lie down, roll over and do what we're told, devolved government notwithstanding.

LexMitior · 06/04/2022 23:14

I will tell you exactly what you do.

You email your MP, no matter what party, and you ask them what they think about this statement and what they and their party are doing about it.

Then see what happens and vote at the next election. But you don't clap a politician for saying something. Vote because they did something.
