@MrsOvertonsWindow

Another labour voter here who despairs that it's Johnson who has spoken up for woman and child safeguarding. Take a look at this future for women - a woman raped on a women's hospital ward with NHS staff openly lying to police that she couldn't have been raped as there were only women present. It took a year and CCTV evidence for them to admit they deliberately lied. Despicable.

This is why knowing what a woman is matters.

He hasn't spoken up for women and child safeguarding.

He's given one small soundbite about sports.

Come back to me when the Tories are effecting real-world policy on this.

HRTQueen · 06/04/2022 20:54

Pitafalafel until a few months age it was a subject that was debated mainly on social media

In recent months the DM has printed articles it’s been spoken about more in the media and Starmer has really bought this issue to the forefront by his response to the question what is a woman

In the last week it’s been a hot topic and now it’s moved to a political topic which it absolutely should be because so many people were not aware and now more are

And yes people do care when the realise it’s not just about a few men wearing a dress the issue is far bigger than that

I could not give a fuck if it’s a political move from Boris Johnson that’s politics why wouldn’t they take advantage of Starmwr being an idiot

And I do care the Labour Party are not listening to the many women saying we want our own spaces because we want to feel safe and choose to stand by a few men who have decided that their feelings are more important

Alexandra2001 · 06/04/2022 20:55

@MarshaBradyo

Johnson is famously the kind of man who sees which way the wind is blowing and then runs out in front shouting “follow me”.

And Starmer says I don’t want to win anyway and runs the other way?

Still towing the party line i see!

Despite Labours change of tune.

TerraNovaTwo · 06/04/2022 20:55

YANBU. Sadly the Tory party will be getting my vote next general election.

AtrociousCircumstance · 06/04/2022 20:56

But you’re willfully misunderstanding. This isn’t about hatred or fear of trans people at all. It’s about biological reality and women’s rights and fighting against compelled speech. This is about protecting women’s rights.

AtrociousCircumstance · 06/04/2022 20:56

(That was @ toconclude)

toconclude · 06/04/2022 20:57

@Chiefofstaff

Johnson is famously the kind of man who sees which way the wind is blowing and then runs out in front shouting “follow me”.

There’s elections coming up. He probably doesn’t give a flying fart about championing women, but he knows a Tory vote winner when he sees one and he’s not shy in using it.

This. And the number of people here falling for it is horrifying. You'd vote against the poor, the disabled, women, gay people, refugees - all of which this govt has shown time and time again it does not care about one jot - just because that 🤡 knows how to pander to your prejudices as he knows how to pander to those off gammon man? You should all be ashamed.
MarshaBradyo · 06/04/2022 20:57

Despite Labours change of tune.

No change as much as you’d like there to be. As Rayner showed today.

Best case is to say it won’t win votes - although apparently it’s a vote chaser at the same time.

DrSbaitso · 06/04/2022 20:58

Translation: " I hate and fear the tiny number of trans people so much I'll throw the entire country under the bus."

Well no, but if you still think this is about hating trans people then you're clearly too unwilling or unable to understand what's concerning people, so no point trying to get that one home to you.

Let's just go with: if it's such a non issue that affects so few people, why won't Labour take a stand on it to get back female voters?

Or once again, is it only a tiny and inconsequential thing when OTHER people should be overlooking it for the greater good?

NippyWoowoo · 06/04/2022 20:58

That's great, but I still wouldn't vote for any party he's head of or the Tories ever. I guess I just have different priorities, managing to survive with increasing costs as a single person not eligible for any help remains my top concern, don't give a shit who's pissing in the toilet next to me.

Alexandra2001 · 06/04/2022 20:59

@AtrociousCircumstance Which first Racheal Reeve and then Starmer both said they would do.....

I'l say one thing though, that whatever Labour have said on the issue they really do need to get the message out there because clearly no one gives a shit that they have listened.

pigsDOfly · 06/04/2022 21:00

@SpinningTheSeedsOfLove

Yes, it makes me absolutely furious with the other parties, particularly Labour, which would be my natural choice under normal circumstances, but with their views on women's rights I'm loath to vote for them.

I not sure Starmer, in his heart of hearts, is particularly wedded to trans rights tbh. I suspect he's just going with the whole 'people can change their sex' thing because that's what the left believe.

He doesn't sound convincing when he talks about it; yet another one just jumping on a suitable bandwagon.

Pitafalafel · 06/04/2022 21:01

@Theluggage15

Starmer is saying whatever he’s saying because the vote is won or lost among 30 million British households. Not among the 200,000 who lap up the culture war BS in the Daily Mail or 200 people commenting on MN articles.

(Regarding the Daily Mail I say 200,000 rather than 2 million because a huge number of people who click on/read such rags read them for shits and giggles and to see celebs in swimsuits - the articles are a source of comedy, nothing more)

AtrociousCircumstance · 06/04/2022 21:01

Toconclude: you misunderstand wildly if you think this is about prejudice. It’s about protecting women’s rights and safeguarding children.

You are the prejudiced one, evidently riddled with internalised misogyny - if you can stomach the woman-hating policies of trans activism, you must be fuelled by misogyny whether you’re conscious of it or not.

toconclude · 06/04/2022 21:02

@AtrociousCircumstance
Nope not misunderstanding at all. Scratch the surface of "it's about women's rights" and it comes down to fear and ignorance. These are the exact same arguments once used against gay men being teachers and youth leaders - that they are somehow 'dangerous'
It's just inconvenient for the antitrans people to admit it.
My feminism doesn't deny other people's rights.

Alexandra2001 · 06/04/2022 21:02

@MarshaBradyo

So you ignore what the party leader & shadow Chancellor have said?

The demise of womens rights and single sex space & sport has occurred under Tory watch, not least the NHS.

whynotwhatknot · 06/04/2022 21:03

I agree with this and only this

still wont vote for the tories

Weirdwonders · 06/04/2022 21:03

I trust him on this issue about as much as I’m likely to trust anything he’s ever said to a woman before. Or to the electorate.

Westchesterarms · 06/04/2022 21:03

@Alexandra2001

Yet as the article says Bridges was bared from competing by the International Governing body, other wise Boris would have stood by and let Bridges compete - British Cycling had no objection.

The erosion of women only spaces is happening under his watch

That's ridiculous. No British politician is going to overrule an international governing body.
Pitafalafel · 06/04/2022 21:04

@TerraNovaTwo
Oh no! We’re still a good 2 or 3 years off an election, and yet the “sad”/“captive” Tory voters are already coming out.

I will be “sadly” voting for Labour - if I can get the cross in the right place through my tears at the unfairness of it all. The tragedy of Election Day is truly Shakespearian!

toconclude · 06/04/2022 21:05

Also sod off with your fuelled by misogyny shite. I've been a feminist for fifty years and I know perfectly well why I believe as I do having given it a lot of thought and actually known some real live trans people.

MarshaBradyo · 06/04/2022 21:05

So you ignore what the party leader & shadow Chancellor have said?

I’ve already responded on another thread about Starmer’s comment where you asked me to read an article.

I did and it was muddled and unclear.

He needs to bring much more clarity to his position if he wants to get ahead on the issue.

Alexandra2001 · 06/04/2022 21:06

@Westchesterarms

That's ridiculous. No British politician is going to overrule an international governing body

So Boris waited until the decision was out of his hands and then told us all what he thinks we all want to hear...... riiight i get that too.

Still doesn't explain the erosion of womens refuges, prisons and wards though? thats in his hands......

Theluggage15 · 06/04/2022 21:07

The decision was out of his hands!! Hahaha.

AtrociousCircumstance · 06/04/2022 21:08

@toconclude Nope. You’re obfuscating. Male bodied people shouldn’t be in women’s sport. That’s not prejudice, nor fear. It’s protecting women’s sport. Not allowing minors to embark on life changing drug regimens - that’s safeguarding. Not fear, not prejudice.

Your thinking is skewed and favours male dominance. Some feminism.
