trib.al/ov5g0nj I can’t stand the throes but agree with this

it would be very uncomfortable for someone who is trans to be on a ward other than that of the gender they identify as

Womens' safety and dignity should not be put at risk to appease the comfort of others. This poor lady suffered immensely, after being raped on a hospital ward and then gaslighted to fuck by the hospital who told her she couldn't have been raped as there were no men on the ward Hmm. Single sex spaces are crucial to the health, safety and dignity of women and girls.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10625997/Hospital-said-rape-single-sex-ward-not-possible-revealing-one-patient-trans.html

Third spaces, or men being more tolerant is the answer.

Turningpurple · 06/04/2022 20:40

Because I'm bloody furious Labour has handed this to Johnson. Ffs.

This!

Theluggage15 · 06/04/2022 20:41

So if Johnson is so pathetic for commenting on this issue and saying this stuff cynically because he wants votes blah blah, what does that make Starmer? So weird to make Johnson the bad guy on this.

sashagabadon · 06/04/2022 20:41

I agree with Boris too

DoobryWhatsit · 06/04/2022 20:42

I will never be able to get my head around how understanding very basic biology is now considered to be a "shared view" between myself and the Tories.

To me, this isn't like BoJo saying "2+2=4" and me saying "yes! I agree! You've got my vote!" It's more like Kier Starmer's saying "2+2 sometimes equals 4, but at the same time it doesn't, and really numbers are all meaningless at the end of the day anyway" and me saying "WTAF are going on about??!"

Blossomtoes · 06/04/2022 20:42

Nobody has to make Johnson the bad guy. Have you been asleep for the last three years?
DrSbaitso · 06/04/2022 20:42

How about those women who believe in this issue? To force change.

If you put your faith in any of the 3 main party you're a complete mug.

Let me rephrase. If there were a general election tomorrow, how should we vote?

EwwSprouts · 06/04/2022 20:44

Whatever the timing on this I agree with him. We're not one trick ponies, we can be following other policy areas too. I am thoroughly sick of the can't say only women have a cervix party. It's as blatant a lie as those around partygate so they are not on any moral high ground. But I do know which set of lies will have the greater impact on 51% of the population for a generation.

Theluggage15 · 06/04/2022 20:44

The bad guy on this issue ffs.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 06/04/2022 20:45

Another labour voter here who despairs that it's Johnson who has spoken up for woman and child safeguarding.
Take a look at this future for women - a woman raped on a women's hospital ward with NHS staff openly lying to police that she couldn't have been raped as there were only women present. It took a year and CCTV evidence for them to admit they deliberately lied. Despicable.

This is why knowing what a woman is matters.

Charles11 · 06/04/2022 20:45

Politics is so upside down these days. What I would have thought the left would be strongly for have become more right wing policies. I’m not right wing at all but see myself aligning with more right wing politics when it comes to gender identity and covid laws and mandates.
This seems to be the case in US politics too.

Carla2601 · 06/04/2022 20:46

This is a terrifying thread….you all seriously think that of all the heinous things he’s done saying this will mean he gets your vote. Depressing and tragic

@Blossomtoes that poster clearly said on this

Read the thread?

You are wildly misrepresenting me, for a start.

Florenz · 06/04/2022 20:48

If Boris is "chasing votes" what is Starmer doing? Running away from votes?

Chiefofstaff · 06/04/2022 20:48

Johnson is famously the kind of man who sees which way the wind is blowing and then runs out in front shouting “follow me”.

There’s elections coming up. He probably doesn’t give a flying fart about championing women, but he knows a Tory vote winner when he sees one and he’s not shy in using it.

There's an old saying that the right thinks women are private property and the left thinks they're public property.
Chiefofstaff · 06/04/2022 20:49

I totally agree with him on this btw but still not going to vote Tory .

MarshaBradyo · 06/04/2022 20:49

Johnson is famously the kind of man who sees which way the wind is blowing and then runs out in front shouting “follow me”.

And Starmer says I don’t want to win anyway and runs the other way?

Well remembered, @DrSbaitso. Thank you.

Alexandra2001 · 06/04/2022 20:52

Yet as the article says Bridges was bared from competing by the International Governing body, other wise Boris would have stood by and let Bridges compete - British Cycling had no objection.

The erosion of women only spaces is happening under his watch

toconclude · 06/04/2022 20:52

@Proudboomer

Not a fan but if he is the only one who is going to protect Womens rights , sports and spaces then I will hold my nose and give him my vote.
Translation: " I hate and fear the tiny number of trans people so much I'll throw the entire country under the bus." Christ in Heaven 😳
Theluggage15 · 06/04/2022 20:53

All this stuff about Johnson saying this for votes, why is Starmer saying the opposite? People actually think he believes women can have a penis? Why is he saying it?

Pitafalafel · 06/04/2022 20:54

Starmer and Johnson would say anything to get into power. Anyone who takes either of them on on their “word(s)” is a fool. The only leaders of conviction the last three decades or so - people who were brave/stupid enough to actually say what they really think - have been Jeremy Corbyn and to a certain extent Theresa May.

Not his biggest fan, but Starmer is a fairly shrewd guy. He’s alienated a million or so supporters on the so called “hard” left in order to make the Labour brand less unappealing to the centre ground voters. His reasoning is that he can’t afford to now also alienate the soft left but liberal/woke Guardian reading types on culture war type issues.

Feel free to criticise his “stance” such as it is (in reality it’s just empty meaningless posturing - the exact same as Johnson is doing). But make no mistake, he is a shrewd enough guy and his ONLY concern is getting into No10.

Personally though, I wouldn’t be voting for Johnson as a “fighter for women” given his past comments about women. Perhaps worst of which were his lines about children of single mothers, whom he describes as 'ill-raised, ignorant, aggressive and illegitimate'.
