trib.al/ov5g0nj I can’t stand the throes but agree with this

underneaththeash · 06/04/2022 20:19

Me too - how can you not agree with him

Blossomtoes · 06/04/2022 20:19

I believe in saying what you mean @TheKeatingFive. Words matter.

TheKeatingFive · 06/04/2022 20:20

He's just trying to vote catch and it seems he's succeeding, at least with Mners

That is his job, after all.

It's a shame for Labour supporters that the leaders of their party are so bad at this.

Checkandcheckagain · 06/04/2022 20:20

EvilGoldfish Not in my experience these were men who identified as being female, a gay man would have no reason to change their physical appearance.
JaneJeffer Surgery never was a requirement as such and whilst hormone treatments may have 'improved' it is true that back in the day they will have needed a medical diagnosis rather than self identifying. it would be very uncomfortable for someone who is trans to be on a ward other than that of the gender they identify as.

FemaleAndLearning · 06/04/2022 20:21

@Proudboomer

Not a fan but if he is the only one who is going to protect Womens rights , sports and spaces then I will hold my nose and give him my vote.
Me too.
TheKeatingFive · 06/04/2022 20:21

Words matter.

Oh I agree. I've been listening to Labour politicians inability to acknowledge biological facts for a while now.

Pistepersistence · 06/04/2022 20:21

So refreshing, and such a relief to read this. I feel like we've been battling in the fringes, ignored and dismissed for being 'bigots'. But they ARE listening. I feel like female sport and vulnerable female spaces can be saved!

NeedAHoliday2021 · 06/04/2022 20:23

Trust Boris to understand what a woman is… all these years and he’s just been doing “research”.

Theluggage15 · 06/04/2022 20:23

I agree with him and am laughing at the comments about how he just wants votes, well yes, obviously, and Starmer clearly doesn’t want votes so who’s the idiot?

Westchesterarms · 06/04/2022 20:23

@Blossomtoes

It takes more balls to put right something you got wrong than it does to just keep going in denial. He is taking a political risk doing that so actually deserves a blinking big hand clap

What’s he put right? Not 12 years of policies that disadvantage women. He’s done nothing except come up with a soundbite that’s got a huge number of women who think they’re feminists wetting their knickers.

I already detailed in another post things that they've started changing or putting a hold on. I never understand why posters think that being rude and insulting about others will persuade them to change their voting intention.
TheKeatingFive · 06/04/2022 20:24

Trust Boris to understand what a woman is

To be honest, I'm relieved someone does.

Newyearnewme2022 · 06/04/2022 20:24

Me too, Boris ain’t wrong on this one.

TurningUpMyStereotype · 06/04/2022 20:25

He's just trying to vote catch and it seems he's succeeding, at least with Mners.

I have no doubt he’s using this to gain votes. But I do actually believe that Boris would think the whole TWAW stuff is total nonsense. If he wasn’t a politician, he wouldn’t even try to be pc about it.

HRTQueen · 06/04/2022 20:26

A politician trying to vote catch

Well I never how bizarre

Starmer made such a fuck up on this issue of course the opposing party are going to take advantage

They have also listened to the majority public opinion something Starmer has chosen not to

Blossomtoes · 06/04/2022 20:26

I have no interest in persuading anyone to change their voting intention @Westchesterarms.

daisychain01 · 06/04/2022 20:27

The PM added: "That doesn't mean that I am not immensely sympathetic to people that want to change gender ....

I'm not sure this will go down at all well in the Transgender community, even if they accept the argument that Transwomen shouldn't compete in women's sporting events.

He's got the tone wrong, he's making it sound as if someone changing gender is to be pitied. His advisors should have told him to leave that bit out. They don't want his pity, or his "sympathy", that's really patronising.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 06/04/2022 20:27

it would be very uncomfortable for someone who is trans to be on a ward other than that of the gender they identify as

And what about my discomfort and that of the hundreds of thousands of biological women passing through the hands of the NHS every year?

Are we of absolutely no consequence here? I do not want to share female spaces with males, and the EHRC guidance says I don't have to in hospital wards. The 'trans' is irrelevant. It's about the 'male'.

Third spaces are needed, or men need to be more tolerant.

(Obviously I am happy to share spaces with biological females, however they present.)

Attictroll · 06/04/2022 20:27

He's right but can't vote for the party of austerity and partygate. I think he knows it will make sense to a wide group. Also Carrie seems like she gets the issue tbh.

OddBoots · 06/04/2022 20:28

I can only hope that at least one of the other parties come to their senses before the next election so this isn't the only option left to us! I don't think the other parties even realise how fundamental this is to so many women (and many male allies too).

oakleaffy · 06/04/2022 20:28

The only thing that Boris has said that I agree on.
Men cannot compete in a fair manner against women in sports like Cycling or Swimming
Male frames saturated in teenage testosterone are at a massive advantage.

Boris at least on this point says what he sees.

No fannying about.

RedHelenB · 06/04/2022 20:29

@Lockheart

I hope people don't turn a blind eye to Boris' rampant misogyny as they fall over to praise him for trotting out the right mantra.
This. Remember his party has a majority government so why is this even an issue if women's rights are so important to him? Anyone voting Tory purely on his words rather than actions don't deserve the vote imo.

To be honest I have come the point where I couldn’t give a shiny fuck how ‘uncomfortable’ it would be for a man with a penis to not be in a woman’s prison/ girl guide tent/ rape centre/ toilet/ changing room/hospital ward.

It may have worked decades ago when very few trans women existed, and they genuinely had dysphoria. It doesn’t now every MRA, sports cheats, rapists, fetishists and their Dad is muscling in on women’s rights, spaces and even our own bloody word to describe our sex.

I care more about women and children’s safety, safeguarding, dignity and privacy than I do any man’s feelings.

They can campaign for third gender neutral spaces, a private hospital room if they don’t want to be on a male ward, a third category in sport, a separate wing in a male prison etc.

Women’s spaces should be off limits. And I don’t care how many mantrums on Twitter that statement would cause.

ethelredonagoodday · 06/04/2022 20:29

@Whatelsecouldibecalled

I hate the man but I agree with this statement
Agreed. It galls me.
HRTQueen · 06/04/2022 20:29

Blossomtoes just as well you are not

namethattunein1 · 06/04/2022 20:29

@DrSbaitso

If you're hitching your hopes on that prick to get legislation to protect women spaces, good luck with that.

Where should people be hitching them?

How about those women who believe in this issue? To force change.

If you put your faith in any of the 3 main party you're a complete mug.
