trib.al/ov5g0nj I can’t stand the throes but agree with this

OP posts:

@Blossomtoes

It takes more balls to put right something you got wrong than it does to just keep going in denial. He is taking a political risk doing that so actually deserves a blinking big hand clap

What’s he put right? Not 12 years of policies that disadvantage women. He’s done nothing except come up with a soundbite that’s got a huge number of women who think they’re feminists wetting their knickers.

this! , bless hes charmed them again hasnt he ? shame about the disadvantaged women that are struggling under conservative polices though , but he knows they are women so thats all right
amter · 06/04/2022 20:02

Well done Boris. Got my vote, this issue matters to me.

MarshaBradyo · 06/04/2022 20:03

@Weirdwonders

He waited until the public opinion on this was clear then jumped in. Never a leader, always a follower. Can’t give him that much credit, sorry.
Why are Labour even further behind on it?
liliainterfrutices · 06/04/2022 20:03

I agree with him on this. But I would never mistake him for someone who cares about women rather than about winning votes. His Islamophobic comments about burkas were pretty horrifying.

Turningpurple · 06/04/2022 20:04

@WeCouldBeSpearows

It's terrifying how many people seem to be quick to base their vote on one soundbite. Something that he's never expressed before. Something that he's not discussed in parliament, or is seeking to legislate on as far as we can tell. And he has, conveniently said it just before council elections when his opposition is getting criticised for saying the opposite.

He's devious. And people have fallen for it.

I don't think that's issue. I think the issue. We know labour support self ID.

We know what they will do. But the Tories are now at least a chance to stop it
There's year before the next GE, so it's a case of watching and waiting. But the focus is that we know what labour will do.

Hopefully Labour will have a rethink on it before then.

namethattunein1 · 06/04/2022 20:04
@namethattunein1

You appear to be misunderstanding. It’s not about what the story party is doing. It’s about what they are NOT doing, about what they are clearly quickly backtracking on, and about what Labour has stated that it WILL do.

Labour has told women that it WILL support self-ID. Which means we will lose all ability to fight against those things I’ve listed.

Why in the fuck would I vote for that?! Or do you suggest I still continue for the party that called me a bigot and said I was not welcome for even saying that there may be a few issues here.

I’ll vote against them until they see sense.

And if Labour genuinely gives a fuck about the poor, or disabled, and everyone else. Then they will drop this single issue that will relegate them to the shadows for the next ten years (at least) if they let it.
You seem to mis-understand that its not the issue its that lying piece of shit grabbing headlines to get some sheep to vote for him.

Look at the fucking replies on here, as if the last years with that fucking lunatic in charge never happened....If you're hitching your hopes on that prick to get legislation to protect women spaces, good luck with that.

chaosrabbitland · 06/04/2022 20:05

@amter

Well done Boris. Got my vote, this issue matters to me.
thats nice , if they get in on the next election you wont feel the need to start a thread complaing about the general state of the country then i trust
seriousandloyal · 06/04/2022 20:05

I have been a Labour voter all my life and I agree with Boris Johnson on this.

Weirdwonders · 06/04/2022 20:07

@amter

Well done Boris. Got my vote, this issue matters to me.
Do some of you never ask yourselves, ‘why this, why now?’ The only thing he’s good at is spotting a wedge issue and diving right in after it. If public opinion wanted the opposite he’d be straight in there angling for it. He’s so completely devoid of ideas. He does it over and over and none of you seem to see it.
TheKeatingFive · 06/04/2022 20:07

If you're hitching your hopes on that prick to get legislation to protect women spaces, good luck with that.

Well we know that Labour is dismantling those protections.

So what do you expect people who care about this issue to do?

Westchesterarms · 06/04/2022 20:07
@Westchesterarms - the difference for me is that the Conservative Party advanced Self ID, made it possible for biological men to go into women's prisons, single sex wards, and put all that policy forward.

You will forgive my skepticism because the Labour Party have not done any of that, or made policy to facilitate it. So I don't think much of this, because the damage was done by the Conservatives.
But the Labour Party is supporting ID and has criticised the Johnson for dropping the trans conversion ban. So they didn't make the policy but they 100% support it. Clearly it would go ahead under them so you can only infer that they would have introduced it if they'd been in power. And indeed they would reverse any changes that the Tories make away ftom that policy.

DrSbaitso · 06/04/2022 20:08

If people are desperate to hurl insults and decide people for being weak and stupid, aim it where it belongs: on bloody Labour politicians who can't just state biological fact and its implications openly and plainly. It's no good berating voters for not doing what you want. Blame the people whose bloody job it is to recognise these issues and take a clear stand to win voters over.

This one should be fish in a barrel, especially against the vampires and vultures in charge right now.

TheKeatingFive · 06/04/2022 20:08

Do some of you never ask yourselves, ‘why this, why now?

Well of course it's politically opportunist, no shit Sherlock.

But Labour have already nailed their colours to this particular mast so dug their own grave already.

DrSbaitso · 06/04/2022 20:09

If you're hitching your hopes on that prick to get legislation to protect women spaces, good luck with that.

Where should people be hitching them?

DrSbaitso · 06/04/2022 20:10

Do some of you never ask yourselves, ‘why this, why now?’

Of course. Why doesn't Starmer?

The only thing he’s good at is spotting a wedge issue and diving right in after it.

And Labour can't even do that!

Peoniesandpeaches · 06/04/2022 20:11

Don’t really see how this is AIBU but as per any opportunity to shove this crap on the front page.

Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase · 06/04/2022 20:11

Labour needs to take note of this

BelleTheBananas · 06/04/2022 20:14

Why are people getting annoyed with (former) Labour voters over this? It is Labour who are out of step with the electorate on this issue.

I went canvassing for Labour in my pushchair (with my dad) in 1983. I am dyed-in-the-wool Labour. Labour don’t understand how sick women are of being asked to budge up for men/by men. I’m done.

BorisKilledMyHusband · 06/04/2022 20:14

Still won't vote for him though. He is responsible for my DH's death.

Blossomtoes · 06/04/2022 20:15

Well we know that Labour is dismantling those protections

Exactly how is it managing that when it’s been out of power for 12 years?

Tiphaine · 06/04/2022 20:15

I agree with Boris about this too. Yanbu.

pigsDOfly · 06/04/2022 20:15

Surprised at the amount of pp that say they're going to vote for him on the strength of this.

Absolutely agree with what he's said but it sounds very much like one of his slogans that he loves so much.

He's just trying to vote catch and it seems he's succeeding, at least with Mners.

Lib Dems and Labour both have no idea what a woman is it seems, so Johnson, knowing that there are thousands of women voters who will agree with him, has come up with this, or more likely his advisors have.

Much as I like what he's saying I hate what he is and what he and his party stand for more; it won't get me voting for him I'm afraid.

MsGoodenough · 06/04/2022 20:16

I prefer to phrase it that Boris agrees with the women who have been saying this for years.

I'll still be spoiling my ballot as I can't bring myself to vote Conservative, but I won't be devastated when they inevitably win another term.

lindyloo57 · 06/04/2022 20:16

I agree with him too

TheKeatingFive · 06/04/2022 20:18

Exactly how is it managing that when it’s been out of power for 12 years?

lol well that tells its own story.

It's pledging to. Honestly, did you really need that explained? Confused
