Crabtree and Evelyn.

GrandTheftWalrus · 03/04/2022 22:51

There used to be a restaurant called Fatty Arbuckles. Loved their butterfly chicken. Was actually talking about it the other night .

Pixiedust1234 · 03/04/2022 22:51

C & A. I loved their tops, their jeans were good and their bras fitted me the best, been uncomfortable ever since Sad

FeelMyBicep · 03/04/2022 22:52

Sweater Shop. Just loved it.

Bluebellbike · 03/04/2022 22:52

C & A

Hairbrush123 · 03/04/2022 22:54

C&A is everywhere except the UK. I have even seen it in Brazil!

I miss Pizzaland. It was so much better than Pizza Hut. I have found memories if going out for a date to Pizzaland.
I also have fond memories of Woolworths. Buying clothes for dd, taking her in the cafe with my mum when she was a baby, buying toys for my nieces and nephews.
I also miss Debenhams. The one in my town was new and clean. The cafe was spot on and I bought lots of clothes from there.

ToothGrinder · 03/04/2022 22:56

C&A. Two of my very best fitting pairs of trousers and my best fitting most flattering top ever came from there. No idea how that worked. I guess I must have has a C&A shaped body. I wore the top till it got holes, one pair of trousers got shrunk by a hotel laundry service in Malaysia and the other pair i hung onto for years and years even though they were no longer fashionable, but now the time is right to break out my moleskin effect flares. Yaaaas.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 03/04/2022 22:58

I miss Woolworths and the Pier. I've got a lovely tiled table from there.

boobot1 · 03/04/2022 22:59

I miss toys r us, especially at christmas. Smyths is not as good.

hangrylady · 03/04/2022 23:00

BHS for nostalgic reasons. I only used to go at Christmas for the novelty Christmas gifts.

busterised · 03/04/2022 23:01

They did have some good cheap lighting though..
FrankLeeSpeaking · 03/04/2022 23:09

@SparklyLeprechaun

Debenhams. House of Fraser as well. Topshop, on the other hand, I didn't even notice it closed down.
We still have a HoF in my town.

I miss Ethel Austin, does anyone else remember that shop? And Ottakers Books. And Debenhams, if I had a wedding or something to attend, every dress came from there.

AChocolateOrangeaday · 03/04/2022 23:10

Paco! I loved their sweatshirts and jumpers.

ThurstonArmbrister · 03/04/2022 23:11

@BordoisAgain

Debenhams
I've not yet satisfactorily replaced Mantaray underwear.

Also: La Tasca. Disappeared for years, came back, vanished again.

ToothGrinder · 03/04/2022 23:12

Agree about BHS lighting and they had decent homeware stuff in general imo. Their bedding and towels were v good quality for the price.

user1497207191 · 03/04/2022 23:14

C&A

LadyHenryofRawlinsonEnd · 03/04/2022 23:15

So many have gone, and even though we liked to complain about them it seems so odd to be without them.

I miss shopping in general, tootling around town and going in and out of places regardless. Now, this place is a dereliction, gangs of people crowded in to make up the space we lost and just smoke skunk, etc. I doubt anyone could call it progress, the UK is sinking in so many areas.
Then again, who needs so much cheap tat? Many didn't deserve to thrive. How New Look are still here is anyone's guess Grin

tulippa · 03/04/2022 23:15

Borders book shops. Nothing else apart from that though.

Apatosaurus20 · 03/04/2022 23:16

Blockbuster
I miss going out and choosing a film and getting a takeaway…Netflix doesn’t offer the same anticipation and buildup to a movie!

DeckTheHallsWithGin · 03/04/2022 23:16

Woolies definitely.

Lonelydaisy · 03/04/2022 23:17

La Tasca tapas restaurant. By far and away the best restaurant in my town. Also the Dutch Pancake House (next town along!)

Shop: C&A. Used to love their canvas ballet pumps, so comfy.
