I hope that this is recent enough for those that were stating that my previous thread was too late and a duplicate.

Yep red table that's the one. Navel gazing, self indulgence at its finest

sweetbellyhigh · 02/04/2022 21:38

@Vanillalatteplease

I'm still astounded that mumsnet posters care so much about this story. Smart arsed comic makes jokes, jumped up actor who's probably consumed to much champagne & blow gives him a slap. Boo hoo he's had to resign from the Academy (whatever the fuck that entails). Chris Rock seems like a pretty thick skinned guy & he'll get a whole tour out of this material & make millions. Will & Jada will continue to make their awful self indulgent show & also make millions rehashing the nights events. Also can we stop saying Will Smith is a role model to young people. From speaking to my kids friends this week most people under 25 only really have a vague idea who he is.
And yet here you are and with such a lot to say 😂
sweetbellyhigh · 02/04/2022 21:45

@VladmirsPoutine

If this had been Robert Pattinson (sp?) it would less 'what a monster, will someone think about the children' and more 'poor man, a careless moment of rage, who amongst us has not' etc etc.

Absolute BS
Didn't happen so why invent it? 🤷‍♂️

LondonWolf · 02/04/2022 21:55

@StrawberryPot

Still unsure how GI Jane is an insult

Not sure I've ever seen the film but I gather Jane shaves her head as part of her effort to defeminise herself in order to fit in better with the male soldiers. Ie to make herself look masculine. So you could probably infer from that that CR was saying Jada looks masculine.

No. She does it because it gets in her way when she's trying to keep up with all the men during the very physical training. I suppose it's symbolic too in that it shows she's All In and will make sacrifices to achieve. The main male trainer takes her more seriously after this act. It's a great movie and Demi Moore was considered a very feminine beauty at the time so it was shocking imagery for her to do that. Well worth a watch of this movie as I know it well and imo it is not a huge insult to draw that comparison. The character was strong, brave and beautiful.

Let's not just make stuff up to try and justify what was really disgusting behaviour on the part of WS. I don't believe that a black man would try to infer that Jada is manly. He would know what a racist trope that is - or are you saying that a black man was attempting to racially humiliate a black woman in front of millions?

I don't believe Jada has medical alopecia either. I know people with the condition and they don't think she does either. None of them have even stubble like she does.

StrawberryPot · 03/04/2022 10:01

@LondonWolf - oh calm down. I was relaying the only explanation I had read in the media. I also said I don't remember seeing the film so clearly not my interpretation Hmm

I also acknowledged further down that stuntbubbles had a much better interpretation (though again I can't vouch for the veracity of that before you accuse me of making things up again).

From the rhythm of the joke – Javier Bardem,
nominated; Penelope Cruz, nominated; Will Smith, nominated; Jada Pinkett-Smith, GI Jane 2, I.e. not nominated and, lol, probably in a shit sequel to a shit film – I interpreted it as less about her looks and more a career dig, but velvet glove with the “love you, can’t wait to see it”, to get away with it.

LondonWolf · 03/04/2022 10:06

I'm perfectly calm thanks, it is the next day after all. Let's not do that I feel a bit silly so I'll pretend you're all irate thing either shall we?

StrawberryPot · 03/04/2022 10:19

@LondonWolf - maybe stop your passive aggressive comments?

LondonWolf · 03/04/2022 10:26

I think I'm being quite open and direct and not at all aggressive,, passive or otherwise actually. Do you actually know what passive aggressive means?

You seem irritated so best we leave it there. Let's not engage in silly MN squabbles on a sunny Sunday Smile

Back to the thread. Just seen a reel of CR backstage after he was assaulted. He looks just gutted though he clearly trying to hide it. Getting a lot of support in the comments.

StrawberryPot · 03/04/2022 10:31

Do you actually know what passive aggressive means?

Yes I do thank you. Not sure you do though. But yes, let's leave it there.

LondonWolf · 03/04/2022 10:43

😊

If you genuinely believe a black man would never try to humiliate a black woman then I don't even know what to tell you. Those are the pure basics. It's like trying to explain the solar system to someone who thinks the UK is the only country on earth. But good luck tho!

I didn't say a black man wouldn't humiliate a black woman though. I said I didn't believe he'd use a racist trope to do so. Maybe I am wrong then. I bow to your judgment. Genuinely. So are you saying a black man would use a racist trope, against a black woman in front of millions? And from the tone of your post that would be a common thing to do? Are you saying CR did that here? Genuine question.

VladmirsPoutine · 03/04/2022 11:03

Genuinely. So are you saying a black man would use a racist trope, against a black woman in front of millions?

100%. Many Black men have built their careers off the backs of disparaging Black women. Men like Kevin Samuels for example. If you think about how the world generally views and treats black women there is huge scope for all manner of punching down on them. With Chris Rock and Jada I do think it goes a lot deeper because he's been on her case for years. But that a Black man would mock a Black woman's hair does absolutely and categorically happen.

LondonWolf · 03/04/2022 11:09

I'm corrected. Thank you for replying to me Smile

VladmirsPoutine · 03/04/2022 11:13

Yup. They'll happily criticise Black women's skin tones, body shapes, hair textures, their attitude. They'll really happily drag black women to the depths of hell all whilst uplifting women of other races in the same sentence. It's really very mind bending to watch because it's like the same women they criticise are in theory just like their mothers, sisters etc. But alas.

LondonWolf · 03/04/2022 11:17

Reading that and thinking about it now I am not shocked and it's very clear. Deep misogyny is standard all over isn't it? Any possible weapon used.

VioletLemon · 03/04/2022 11:21

The most recent DSM doesn't distinguish, it's all ASD.
This is unfortunate as Aspergers is quite specific.

Yes. Serena Williams is a prime example. She was called manly for years, told her sister was the better looking one, etc..and when she did marry her husband, she was called a traitor afterwards by the same Black men who called her manly.

Sorry to be a pain but could anyone advise on how to get this thread taken down as it is no longer relevant in relation to the issue it was posted about. If MumsNet HQ see this, would you mind taking this thread down please?

If you report your own thread you can ask for it to be taken down
runnerblade95 · 07/04/2022 12:02

@RustyShackleford3 I’ve done that and it hasn’t been taken down as of yet. Should I report it again?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 07/04/2022 12:58

I don’t think they take every thread down on request. And I suppose rightly so because they’d be there all day deleting threads and MN would cease to be.

I don’t think the subject matter meandering a little bit (explaining why people are reacting to this event) is a reason to take it down. If they did that then there would be no threads here at all.

RustyShackleford3 · 07/04/2022 21:38

Maybe send another message explaining why you want it taken down? But if the reason is that people have gone on a tangent then I don't think they will take it down for that.

HangingRock25 · 08/04/2022 07:25

@runnerblade95 Why do you want it taken down? Why? There is no personal information about yourself in it. It's a general interest topic. So why do you want it taken down? I wanted to contribute to the discussion but feel I can't now that you're trying to have the thread removed. Just leave it up and don't contribute to it if you no longer want to. Just leave it up for people that do want to.
