  • Sensible clothing
  • Frugal with money
  • Disapproving of trivialities, such as spending too much on Christmas presents or cosmetics

  • Uncompromising
  • Very high expectations in relationships
  • Intelligent

Any others?

ZenNudist · 30/03/2022 21:27

I don't imagine average mumsnetters but there are some "types".

In particular I know there are people here pretending to be rural living, well off , idyllic family lifestyle are anything but.

sjxoxo · 30/03/2022 21:29

Still wearing skinny jeans and “a nice top’ and Veja trainers

yes to the pp who said ‘all one length shoulder length hair’ haha! This exactly.

Madrenetterhere · 30/03/2022 21:40

I imagine most mumsnetters to be:-
White
Born and raised in the South of England
Married
Female
35 plus (age)
Grocery shops in waitrose
Clothes shops for her two children in boden (mostly)
Degree level educated
Has slept with less than 10 people
Has not used recreational drugs
Household income of minimum 100k

Chestnut23 · 30/03/2022 21:40

Lives in a new build made of Sandy coloured brick, with a sloped lawn at the front

JackieWeaversLaptop · 30/03/2022 21:53

Think this is my favourite ever MN thread 😂😂 Totally agree with all the definitions you’ve given so far hahaha

Blueeyedgirl21 · 30/03/2022 22:01

There’s also another type in my head who live extremely rurally for reasons unknown to everyone but don’t drive and husband is useless/works outside 17 hours a day, an hour away on foot. They don’t have any neighbours friends or family. They always have a poorly toddler and a freezing house. I’m like who are these women, I can picture them with their toddlers in hand knitted jumpers all snotty and crying and this poor woman in a leaky house down a track with no transport and not knowing anyone. This seems to be on loads of threads I read. To the point it might be actually made up a lot of the time !

SpringsSprung · 30/03/2022 22:08

Definitely a middle class SAHM from Surrey & surrounding counties. Lives semi-rural/rural (dependent on who she's talking to), shops at John Lewis and 'all the local indies', kids all wear purely organic cotton, has a dippy husband who has an infinite credit rating and says yes to everything. Tells people she's Vegan but definitely isn't.

Oh and presumes evvvveryone else on MN is exactly as above Wine

Workinghardeveryday · 30/03/2022 22:21

Hates mil
Dh sleeps in spare room ( because of snoring)
Sex life shit
Washes tea towels daily
Washing always hung out, even in winter - it dry..
Never leave washing out after dusk because of spider willys/jizz
Has cleaner 2/4 hours a week
Cooks everything from scratch
All dc’s have full schedule of after school clubs
Doesn’t use fabric softener
Any argument with dp, always always LTB

RobertaFirmino · 30/03/2022 22:31

Reading through this thread, it would appear that the average MNer is adamant that they are a total one-off, that there is nobody else here like them and they are obviously bucking the trend/skewing the stats and oh so different!

AnastasiaRomanov · 30/03/2022 22:32

@5128gap

There are different types. The ones who say things like 'ask someone you trust to explain it to you' 'no is a complete sentence' and 'you sound very insecure/controlling' wear old joggers and fleeces have unwashed hair, hard faces and down turned mouths. They complain all the time, and their lovely families are scared of them. The ones who make me laugh out loud with their wit wear stylish trendy clothes that look great on them, have effortlessly fabulous hair, live in cool flats or quirky terraces, and have strong regional accents. The ones who write thought provoking posts, treat people with courtesy in debate and challenge uncalled for nastiness have warm faces, short silver hair, wear bohemian clothes and have adult DC who adore them and go backpacking with them. The ones who say things like 'it would be different it's a man were asking' 'the double standards on here are shocking' and 'women can be like that too' are 5 feet 8, live in their mothers spare room, wear nylon shirts and are called Bernard.
Absolutely cracked me up!
WhereIsMyGlasses · 30/03/2022 23:39

@Matchingcollarandcuffs

5 pages in and no one has said we only buy naice ham (the thick slices of dry cute stuff, not the slimy reformed stuff that the kids much prefer to eat)

Had been taken up the Shard by DH at least once

Tell me I'm not the only one who laughed at being taken up the Shard by dh 🤣🤣
EmeraldShamrock1 · 30/03/2022 23:46

I think a lot of these descriptions are typical of the old mumsnet.

There was a handful of commoners but overall many descriptions are spot on.

I've learnt a lot from the wonderful women on MN over the years from all walks of life.

I'm a commoner so I can say commoner lighthearted Smile

DearlyBeloathed · 30/03/2022 23:51

Middle Class
Short, blonde, bobbed hair
2 children - boy and girl
Wears striped tops, skinny jeans, and a scarf
Enjoys cooking and gardening
Senior position in work

Rockmehardplace · 30/03/2022 23:54

Lives in London/outskirts
2 children
Early 40s
Works 4 days as a lawyer, married to a consultant
Has a nanny/mother’s help
Gets drunk at bbqs and worries too much what other mothers think of her

MuchTooTired · 31/03/2022 00:02

I think most are:

Highly organised
Immaculately dressed
Mainly work at least part time if not full time and earn a minimum of 40k
Are mainly married because of the security
Are slim
Regularly decorate their homes and have done the biggest extension possible
Are hyper vigilant about their children who are all beautifully behaved
Have summer and winter wardrobes of expensive good quality clothes which require dry cleaning or hand washing
Have cleaners and gardeners
DH has an outing hobby
They have a fuck off huge pension, a running away fund, investments, cash savings and some antiques kicking around plus a hefty inheritance due at some point which they never think of but secretly expect
Their children are dressed in good quality expensive brands and eat 10 portions of fruit and veg a day without complaint
If they’re a sahm they’ve independent wealth from a good career prior to having children, and their DH/DW is a high earner
The minimum education level is a degree, but most have higher or more than one

They’re basically what I’d love to be, but I’m short and fat with no dress sense at all, and I dropped out of uni with no career afterwards. I’m currently a sahm to feral children who detest any and all vegetables and only want to eat beige foods. Sadly I’ve no independent wealth or pension to speak of really, and I’m both the cleaner and often the gardener to boot. Grin

I think I love you Grin

I am feeling so validated by how far away from being a proper MNer I am!

Nearly 50
Poor
6 kids
Single
Tattoos
I am going to use the word eccentric to describe my "look"
Gamer
Metal head
:)

PyongyangKipperbang · 31/03/2022 01:33

But to answer the Q, I think that for every high earner in Boden there are a hundred that are earning less than average wearing Primarni! I like that there are probably a large amount of posters like that, feel like I fit in!

youdialwetile · 31/03/2022 03:58

Has a job in a niche market which would be outing if they told us any more details. Only two people in the world are qualified for this position and the other person is terrible at it.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 31/03/2022 08:38

@MuchTooTired 🤣 You're very funny and a great writer too. 😄

Premiumtube · 31/03/2022 08:46

Horrendously dressed in frumpy mumsnet name checked brands (fat face, seasalt, joules) with ugly shoes
Has a very high opinion of herself

Premiumtube · 31/03/2022 09:03

Oh and spends at least half of a precious weekend bloody batch cooking! Grin
