Boris Johnson ‘fat shaming’.

I’ve heard a couple of times Boris Johnson comment on Ian Blackford’s weight.

How is this okay?

You wouldn’t comment to a colleague about them “eating all the pies” so why is it okay for Boris to?

In front of so many people too…I know some will say it’s “banter” but I’m sure that’s been an excuse for a lot ot negative comments about people on the past.

Am I being over sensitive to think our PM shouldn’t be making such comments?

An overweight adult male addressed a mild insult to another overweight adult male. Why is this an important topic?
Why does a mild insult get raised to the status of "shaming"?
It really is not important

IpanemaFleur · 30/03/2022 17:40

I wonder if Johnson says such things so everyone talks about that rather than the fact he lied about his party cutting tax again today. The OBR UK have correctly stated that in fact taxes will actually rise.

feellikeanalien · 30/03/2022 17:44

@CharityShopChic

Agree, what Blackford did to Charles Kennedy was far more vile than anything BoJo has done to a political opponent.

Blackford is just horrible. And a bully. Who abused and hounded a man with a known problem with booze in the nastiest and most personal way possible.

This 100 times.

I have no sympathy for Blackford whatsoever.

LadyShatterly · 30/03/2022 18:00

On the assumption that this is based on the comment today, I think there is a lot more i mind from Johnson than a comment about firstly his own porkiness and then someone else’s. Being po faced about this, distracts and detracts from the very real problems his leadership causes.

Curvesinallthewrongplaces · 30/03/2022 18:00

It’s not about whether IB is a nice person or if you have sympathy, it’s a really inappropriate thing for a PM to say…it would at minimum be a disciplinary within a company

@LadyShatterly
Not trying to distract from the shambles but it adds to it

Didn't see any outrage on here when most of the left wing internet was being pretty vile about Boris jogging on the beach a week ago, but I guess it's OK when they do it, since they are the good guys when spewing hate.

Yes some of the cartoons were extremely nasty

You are right it is not important.

So why was the Prime Minister wasting his precious time on something so unimportant?

LadyShatterly · 30/03/2022 18:11

Good point Notlabeled!

No no no. Its fine to do it at him. Call him Bozo but don't dare call Starmer Keith. Laugh at Bozo' s hair, wife, dandruff whatever you like! but we must remain straight faced at all times when faced with Angie's silly shoes and her Babyliss sponsored bouffant and Keith's whiny wibbly speeches.

Thems the mumsnettters rules.

jgw1 · 30/03/2022 18:49

@JaniieJones it is nice to see that you like the Prime Minister don't have anything to say about policies that might help with the cost of living crisis, but rather want everyone to pay attention to people's personal appearance.

Cornettoninja · 30/03/2022 18:53

I don’t entirely disagree but from where I’m sitting this is a direct result of allowing a joke of cabinet to remain running the country. There are absolutely more serious issues that require proper discussion but that’s not going to happen primarily because BJ isn’t going to engage in them - watch this afternoons committee for a word salad instead of engagement in the opportunity for a proper discussion outside of PMQ’s. It’s much more obvious without the raucous vocalisations from either side.

This is what many people warned of, he simply can’t stay in power because he’s lost so much credibility. The focus is on his insults without any real rebuttal because he didn’t actually say anything of any worth during the session. Never does.

SueSaid · 30/03/2022 18:56

'but rather want everyone to pay attention to people's personal appearance.'

It's a thread about him allegedly fat shaming!! Start another if you want to change the subject.

Back to Blackford. As I said earlier the 'fat shaming' was either 'The Tory leader claimed he and the SNP Westminster chief were both “a living testament to the benefits of moderation'

Or 'i don't know who ate more cake'.

Both harmless and acknowledging they're both overweight.

If the op has one that actually demonstrates fat shaming lets hear it.

fixyourfences · 30/03/2022 19:06

Obesity is a disease.

These days it is unacceptable to refer to or define people by their disease (see also Down's syndrome and disability)

Referring to 'fat people' or other types of fat-shaming are today's equivalent of calling people spastics or cripples or Downs kids (I know, it's offensive to even think about people in these terms any more, but that is how some unfortunate people think it is acceptable to define people with obesity). These unfortunate people probably define themselves by their slimness and fitness and this reinforces their feelings of superiority. They are wrong. People are defined by more than their weight. Personality, morals and behaviour are more defining.

BJ has probably just been listening to a certain influential person in his personal life and not listening enough to NHS or medical briefings he may or may not have actually turned up to.

Have MN started employing thread monitors? Do you get a badge?

OMG. It's two grown up politicians both of which have said and done unpleasant things in the past, and both are capable of being quite nasty. They've hides like rhinos and a joke that they're both porky isn't going to bother either of them. It was said in Patliament in the cut and thrust atmosphere of the HoC and not at a vicars tea party. Let's get a grip.

SueSaid · 30/03/2022 19:19

'Have MN started employing thread monitors? Do you get a badge?'

Well it just seems odd on a thread discussing alleged fat shaming to pipe up why aren't we discussing his policies..

Cornettoninja · 30/03/2022 19:26

It’s seems odd that someone would see a thread about Boris Johnson and be moved to comment on his policies? Boris Johnson the well known politician? Boris Johnson the prime minister? That Boris Johnson?

An unfathomable mystery indeed.

SueSaid · 30/03/2022 19:32

'It’s seems odd that someone would see a thread about Boris Johnson and be moved to comment on his policies'

Well yes 'ooo Bozo called Blackford fat that's disgusting!', 'nevermind that what about inflation!' Confused.

Cornettoninja · 30/03/2022 19:36

I will never understand your thought process.

TrickyD · 30/03/2022 19:38

I much prefer Blackford’s comfortable rotund figure to Johnson with his horrible fat legs and hideous knock knees..

@JaniieJones Does he have any policies for the cost of living crisis?

Surely if he did he would have articulated them in the House of Commons today, rather than throwing around childish insults?
