Boris Johnson ‘fat shaming’.

Curvesinallthewrongplaces · 30/03/2022 13:23

I’ve heard a couple of times Boris Johnson comment on Ian Blackford’s weight.

How is this okay?

You wouldn’t comment to a colleague about them “eating all the pies” so why is it okay for Boris to?

In front of so many people too…I know some will say it’s “banter” but I’m sure that’s been an excuse for a lot ot negative comments about people on the past.

Am I being over sensitive to think our PM shouldn’t be making such comments?

Johnson should be roundly bollocked by the Speaker, in public or behind closed doors, but he won't be.

The Speaker is on shaky ground himself - he has made several jokes about Boris Johnson needing to visit Specsavers.

Kaibashira · 30/03/2022 15:34

@Nicholethejewellery

Blackford's always attacking Johnson though. That's what politicians do. A few weeks ago he was thrown out of the house for saying he'd misled Parliament, which is one of the most serious accusations that could be made and is not allowed.

If he can dish the criticisms and insults out, he needs to be able to take them.

Lord above have we reached a stage where legitimate political criticism is genuinely compared to body shaming?

Ian Blackford's literal job is holding the government to account.

Boris Johnson's role at PMQs is to explain and defend government choices. If he can't do that without making disparaging remarks about the appearance of others (especially when he himself is no within-normal-BMI-range oil painting), then we can infer that he is some combination of: childish, a bully, deeply insecure, trying to deflect from his government's political choices with personal insults.

And with regard to Blackford getting thrown out, let's not iron over the fact that you can get thrown out for accusing another member of lying, but you don't get automatically thrown out for lying- as Johnson has time and time and time and and time again.

jgw1 · 30/03/2022 15:35

It is well known that Johnson is a bully.
It seems he has some cheerleaders when he publicly bullies someone, perhaps thats why they voted for him.

SueSaid · 30/03/2022 15:35

'He does it because Ian Blackford absolutely nails him every time'

Grin

He is like a bad pantomime villain hissing 'resiiiiiign prime minister resiiiiiiiiign!!' every week. That tends to be his contribution.

I've no idea why the nats let him loose.

EthelTheAardvark · 30/03/2022 15:35

Looking at the way he had obviously struggled to do up his jacket when he was going into the service yesterday, Johnson is hardly in position to comment. To say nothing of the fact that he couldn't muster up enough respect to comb his stupid hair.

SueSaid · 30/03/2022 15:37

'The Tory leader claimed he and the SNP Westminster chief were both “a living testament to the benefits of moderation'

Which part of this is 'bullying'?! He talking about himself too.

There is a rather obvious difference. It is the business of MPs to hold Prime Ministers to account - even if Parliamentary rules don't allow them to do so properly within the chamber; and, of course, it was absolutely true that he had misled Parliament. Whereas accusing another MP of being fat has nothing to do with holding them to account, and is simply a childish insult.
SueSaid · 30/03/2022 15:40

'To say nothing of the fact that he couldn't muster up enough respect to comb his stupid hair.'

You can't comment on stupid hair, it isn't allowed. When I mention Rayner's overstyled ringlets or Keith's Tin Tin quiff I get told off.

@CounsellorTroi

He resorted to childish abuse in PMQ today calling Keir Starmer Captain Hindsight. He’s a total embarrassment.
Says the man who was surprised he was at a party that he’d already apologised for being at.

Boris would be well advised to shut up about others appearances. He looks like Wurzel Gummidge let himself go. Carrie could do a fairly convincing aunt sally…

Curvesinallthewrongplaces · 30/03/2022 15:44

@Nightlystroll
No, I don’t agree with people calling him a fat c*nt on here as it’s got nothing to do with how good he is as PM.

I will say, he could look smarter as someone representing our country. It wouldn’t take much effort for him to brush his hair and fasten his top button on occasion.

Because there’s very little point in entering into a dialogue with BJ who has lead over one of the most shocking periods of political dishonesty and grifting in living memory. I can’t knock the man/party for not having much to say to Boris other than gtfo. And they’re right.

OP said she had heard Johnson fat shaming Blackford a couple of times - she didn't say that it was that comment she was talking about. Unsurprising that that is the one you choose to reference, though.
Cornettoninja · 30/03/2022 15:49

I don’t know @Curvesinallthewrongplaces, although the comment on his body is unnecessary I think ‘cunt’ is a pretty succinct way of summing up his leadership on a few levels.

Obviously his appearance does matter to his premiership if you think he should look smarter. It’s a basic social skill to present yourself in an appropriate way. BJ sacrifices that purposefully to keep up some Enid Blyton jolly bumbling but brilliant character when he’s nothing of the sort and as sleezy as they come.

whatistheworld · 30/03/2022 15:51

Boris Johnson needs a long look in a mirror! Unfortunately the vile man gets off on bullying and lying. It is how he functions.
The sooner he is gone the better the UK will be

lljkk · 30/03/2022 15:52

BJ wouldn't mind anyone calling him fat -- he'd own it as an obvious truth.

Are MPs spouses 'fair game' on this thread?

SueSaid · 30/03/2022 15:54

Well one of the 'couple of times' would have been today, no? If not perhaps the op could let us know what 'fat shaming' has gone on?

The other comment was about cake when Bozo said 'I don't know who's been eating more cake' as they are both fatties. Nothing to be outraged about. I'm sure Blackford didn't lose sleep over it.

Johnson has misled Parliament. We know that he has given how the Met are now handing out penalties for the parties held in No 10 during lockdown. Though, that example is likely to be the least of them.

Anyhow, it’s not the criticisms or attacks per se as yes politicians do this to each other all the time, it’s the playground bully nature of Johnson’s attacks that are so pathetic.

Cornettoninja · 30/03/2022 15:58

Maybe so @lljkk, I’m sure Blackford is fully aware of his size. It isn’t about insulting the individual it’s about creating a rabble backing response so your supporters can feel superior. Team bonding if you like.

BJ wouldn’t like that. It’s a cheap but effective shot if your prepared to stoop that obviously low. BJ has proved many times over the pandemic and prior that he chases popularity. He’s a needy teenager with a malevolent streak.

TabithaTittlemouse · 30/03/2022 15:59

Why do people act shocked when Boris acts like a twat?

NippyWoowoo · 30/03/2022 16:06

@pussycatunpickingcrossesagain

It's Boris.

What else do you really expect from him?

He's still about 8.

🤷‍♀️

He's a grown man running this country and voted for by the people. Stop infantilising him.

I’m not shocked he’s a twat, I’m shocked he’s still PM.

He's not half as embarrassing as Starmer and his total lack of knowledge of female anatomy. It is unbelievable that the leader of a once powerful party should display such ignorance of basic biology and the consequences for women of policies based on it . Doesn't he know that women have the vote? Or is he planning to it away from them? It wouldn't surprise me.
hamstersarse · 30/03/2022 16:08

God, people are so fragile

I am sure Blackford gave no shits. People on here are just projecting their own insecurities onto this situation.

Everyone accepts it is ok to call Boris fat (ironically also on a fat shaming thread). He jokes about it himself. So it is fine.

I often hear on here that fat people are totally fine with being fat, yet here we are with yet another thread complaining about people who make jokes about fatness - either you are fine with it and can take a joke, or you are not and should do something about it yourself and stop trying to police other people's words

They always throw insults around at PMQ's. They're all as bad as each other.

He called Starmer a human weather vane today which did amuse me.

Don't you remember David Cameron's "it doesn't have to be Christmas to know you're sitting next to a turkey" quip?
