Boris Johnson ‘fat shaming’.

I’ve heard a couple of times Boris Johnson comment on Ian Blackford’s weight.

How is this okay?

You wouldn’t comment to a colleague about them “eating all the pies” so why is it okay for Boris to?

In front of so many people too…I know some will say it’s “banter” but I’m sure that’s been an excuse for a lot ot negative comments about people on the past.

Am I being over sensitive to think our PM shouldn’t be making such comments?

He's not in any position to comment on other people's weight. He should concentrate on the job he's supposed to be doing and not getting caught up in making personal (and irrelevant) remarks. It's like the elections in the US when Trump spent his whole campaign negging his opponents instead of talking about policy.

Curvesinallthewrongplaces · 30/03/2022 16:17

@AKASammyScrounge
I think he couldn’t say right for saying wrong on that to be honest, he would offend somebody either way. I didn’t post in support of other MPs though, just about how awful the leader of our county’s behaviour is.

Johnson’s appearance is a disgrace to the position of PM — the guy is one cheeky f**er to comment on anyone else’s appearance

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 30/03/2022 16:33

@Nicholethejewellery

Blackford's always attacking Johnson though. That's what politicians do. A few weeks ago he was thrown out of the house for saying he'd misled Parliament, which is one of the most serious accusations that could be made and is not allowed.

If he can dish the criticisms and insults out, he needs to be able to take them.

BUT BJ HAD MISLED PARLIAMENT
CharityShopChic · 30/03/2022 16:36

If there was a "who is the most vile" contest, it would be a close run thing between Johnson and Blackford.

jgw1 · 30/03/2022 16:44

I am fascinated by the way in which so many posters have suddenly appeared here defending Johnson's insults as they are just the normal sort of thing at PMQs and oh isn't if funny to call Starmer a weather vane. (Which would be more funny if it were not uttered by someone who only does and says what he thinks will be popular in tomorrow's headlines).

It would be nice if once or twice at PMQs Johnson actually engaged with any of the very many serious issues that he is asked questions about, but clearly he is incapable of doing so.

girlmom21 · 30/03/2022 16:45

@jgw1 you can find a comment funny while still not being a fan of the person who made said comment - HTH.

skippy67 · 30/03/2022 16:48

@lljkk

BJ wouldn't mind anyone calling him fat -- he'd own it as an obvious truth.
Oh leave off! Johnson can't even own up to how many kids he's got. Or that he broke the law several times in lockdown.
DrManhattan · 30/03/2022 16:51

I can call him what I want on here and will continue to do so. I'm not Prime Minister. I don't have that code to follow (or not follow).

Cornettoninja · 30/03/2022 16:55

This is the crux of it. He isn’t an otherwise articulate, intelligent debater able to carry off cutting witty remarks. He’s a preprogrammed potato.

I just caught the end of the liaison committee and it’s frustrating how he uses so many words to say precisely f all.

ChickenSkinny · 30/03/2022 16:58

Can you really not see the difference? Whether a politician is fat is irrelevant to their ability to do their job- it’s completely invalid as a criticism. Being dishonest and incompetent, on the other hand, are relevant and valid things to criticise.

The objection to fat-shaming Blackford (for me) is less about whether it’s unkind or hypocritical or whatever, and more about it being completely irrelevant to the debate and evidence (if more were required) of Johnson’s lack of seriousness and ability.

@TheMoreYouKnow

Ffs it was a joke. Everyone's so woke these days that the world is going to be a very humourless bland place to live in the future. If someone farts and you mention a smell is that fart shaming?
Ah the woke counter. There’s always one shrieking woke woke.

It’s the equivalent of shouting Karen at anyone who has the audacity to stand up for themselves.

It’s rude and not really fitting for the office of a Prime Minister tbh.

BigWoollyJumpers · 30/03/2022 17:16

Blackford's vile. A quick Google will show you what kind of person he is.

He lies and schemes, and vilifies. The treatment of Charles Kennedy was appalling. Should Johnson have called him fat, probably not, but they both are, and in all ways, as bad as each other.

CharityShopChic · 30/03/2022 17:20

Agree, what Blackford did to Charles Kennedy was far more vile than anything BoJo has done to a political opponent.

Blackford is just horrible. And a bully. Who abused and hounded a man with a known problem with booze in the nastiest and most personal way possible.

ilovesooty · 30/03/2022 17:25

@CounsellorTroi

He resorted to childish abuse in PMQ today calling Keir Starmer Captain Hindsight. He’s a total embarrassment.
He does that every week.

However people will still defend him and his repulsive party
And we know why.

I can't take that seriously.
theton · 30/03/2022 17:31

people in glasshouses etc

theton · 30/03/2022 17:31

also his dress sense wtf

Nightlystroll · 30/03/2022 17:33

Blackford is just horrible. And a bully. Who abused and hounded a man with a known problem with booze in the nastiest and most personal way possible.

Charles Kennedy was mourning his father who had died during the run up to the general election. Blackford mocked and criticised him for being absent during campaigning knowing that he was grieving and burying a man who he'd been very close to.
So I think he can probably withstand a 'who ate all the pies' sort of joke.

Nightlystroll · 30/03/2022 17:34

@theton

people in glasshouses etc
Well, that was the sort of point of the joke.
balalake · 30/03/2022 17:34

Mr Johnson possibly would not have ended up in intensive care when he caught Covid 19, had he not been overweight himself.

BoredZelda · 30/03/2022 17:34

In my experience, all but the most sensitive of men couldn’t give two hoots.

In my experience men are just as hurt by people making fun of them but say nothing because people will throw “insults” like “sensitive” at them and that’s crap too.

Kendodd · 30/03/2022 17:36

Well, I didn't vote to put this disgrace to our country in number 10.

StoneofDestiny · 30/03/2022 17:36

In everything he says and does, Bawbag Johnson is inappropriate. He is an utter embarrassment as a PM. Given the amount he spent on doing up No 10, it's amazing he has no mirror to look at his own shape and weight.

Onlyforcake · 30/03/2022 17:36

No substance, no sense of responsibility. No wonder the cons adore him so.
