To ask what you have at home

Was talking with a colleagues yesterday about safety devises at home and they made out that I was kind of over the top with things I have.
They got the house alarm and ring cameras for security outside and things like first aid kits and co2 thingy but started laughing when I told them I had fire extinguishers upstairs and downstairs, with fire blankets in kitchen.
Just wondered what people have in their homes. I'd assumed everyone would have everything they could Hmm

OP posts:
LittleMy77 · 30/03/2022 09:17

Wired smoke and co2 alarms on all 3 levels of house, fire blanket and extinguisher in kitchen (still in packet so of limited use Blush) burglar alarm, security lights, first aid box in the house, and usually have one for the car.

In our last house (not UK) we also had roll up escape ladder for event of fire, and figured out an escape path / which window etc

PersephonePomegranate · 30/03/2022 09:18

CO² detectors. Not cow detectors

Now I am greatly disappointed!

SpikedTea · 30/03/2022 09:18

I have fire extinguishers too. We had a massive house fire in the night caused by no fault of our own a few years ago and had to run downstairs that were flaming.
Since then I will always have them upstairs and down but hope to never have to use them.
I dont have house alarm security stuff though.

irishfarmer · 30/03/2022 09:19

I think you'll be horrified to heard I only recently started locking the door. I'd often go into town (5miles) and not lock the door. But there was a burglary in the area recently so I now lock the door.

I do have a fire alarm/ CO2 alarm/ extinguisher/ fire blanket but that's because this house used to be a rental and those things had to be here by law.

Pyri · 30/03/2022 09:19

We have the same OP, better to be safe than sorry.

We also have an emergency escape ladder for the top bedroom, fingers crossed we never have to use it mind

DomesticatedZombie · 30/03/2022 09:19

Fire blankets and extinguishers is sensible; remember you are supposed to check them regularly and replace extinguishers every couple of years, although this seems wasteful to me.

MajorCarolDanvers · 30/03/2022 09:21

Fire alarms, CO alarm, burglar alarm and CCTV ( due to nasty neighbours) first aid kit.

rainbowandglitter · 30/03/2022 09:21

We have heat detectors and fire alarms and that's it. No burglar alarms or ring doorbells, extinguishers etc.

Gooseysgirl · 30/03/2022 09:21

Fire blanket in the kitchen, smoke alarms, house alarm, camera at the front and rear (which proved a godsend recently when someone caused £££ damage to our car), first aid kit.

Gooseysgirl · 30/03/2022 09:23

Funnily enough we also installed cameras due to nasty neighbours - best thing we ever did! It put a stop to them regularly blocking in our car.

emmathedilemma · 30/03/2022 09:25

Smoke alarms and a carbon monoxide alarm that was installed with the boiler.
There's various first aid bits n bobs in the bathroom cupboard but not a "kit" as such.

theemmadilemma · 30/03/2022 09:26

We have 4 security cameras. No first aid kit - other than plasters and paracetamol/codine.

Fire and carbon monoxide detectors.

Norgie · 30/03/2022 09:26

Smoke and carbon detectors. There's some plasters somewhere and a couple of big dogs who are the most reliable security feature.
I did consider putting a large picture of my late M.I.L in the window as a burglar deterrent, but my DH took offence for some reason.

BlackeyedSusan · 30/03/2022 09:27

I want a fire extinguisher up and downstairs. We have had two fires in our complex recently and I am scared.

incognitoforthisone · 30/03/2022 09:30

The previous owners of our house had already fitted a burglar alarm and a motion sensor security light when we moved in. We have smoke detectors and British Gas gave us a free carbon monoxide detector. No fire extinguishers or fire blankets and no cameras anywhere.

No 'first aid kit' either, unless you count a packet of plasters and some Savlon wound wash spray.

Toffeewhirl · 30/03/2022 09:31

I have a fire blanket and small fire extinguisher in the kitchen. Also a carbon monoxide detector and first aid kit. I used to work as a childminder and it was mandatory to have these, but I'm quite safety conscious anyway so had most of them already.

I also have a spider catcher - does that count? (It's definitely a safety device!).

Innocenta · 30/03/2022 09:32

We have fire blankets, first aid stuff, carbon monoxide detector and fire alarms of course.

Blood pressure monitor, heart rate monitor, AED.

Innocenta · 30/03/2022 09:33

Oh, and an oxygen concentrator + some bottled oxygen.

TheOrigRights · 30/03/2022 09:34

CO2 detector, smoke alarm, basic first aid and medicines. And a thermometer which I only acquired a couple of years ago when DS2 had a spate of ear infections and the GP was a bit surprised I didn't have one.

No cow detector.

Xoxrtox · 30/03/2022 09:34

x 4 Wired smoke alarms (in hallway of each level and in utility room in case tumble dryer went on fire)
Heat monitor in kitchen
Fire doors everywhere as have a loft extension (vs having smoke alarms in every room)
Ring doorbell
Ring camera in kitchen to monitor back of house
Burglar alarm which we set every night and when we leave house
Fire blanket in kitchen (which has expired)
CO alarm
Basic first aid kit
2 x seatbelt cutters/window hammers in car

I live in a relatively safe London borough and never been burgled. Looking at the list, it does feel a little over the top. We don't have a fire extinguisher as have taught my DC if there's a fire, you get out of the house immediately and call the fire brigade. No heroics trying to fight the fire.

Strawberry33 · 30/03/2022 09:34

I have a four story house so I have a linked fire alarm system so if it triggers it goes off in all rooms.
I have a carbon monoxide test alarm. That’s it.
I’d like a ring doorbell system but can’t afford atm.
I think it’s great you have a fire extinguisher but also that it’s funny 😄

Bigboysmademedoit · 30/03/2022 09:36

Most of those but could I just say that my husband had always had small fire extinguishers located both in the house and in the garage - I thought it was overkill until we had a large fire and they proved invaluable!

RiaG91 · 30/03/2022 09:38

Hopefully there are no IT gurus browsing the site that can find your addresses and now know what everyone has (or doesn't have) security wise 😅

adasthorne · 30/03/2022 09:38

First aid kit, steristrips, excellent selection of adult and child medication for all eventualities, a medical staple set (don't ask but if things go tits up in a nuclear war I could close a decent head laceration), smoke alarms, co2 monitor, fire blanket in kitchen, first aid kit and mini fire extinguisher in the car. Also have a seat belt cutter/window smasher in the door pocket of the car No cctv or ring doorbell as just moved and haven't got round to it. Never rated burglar alarms after my friend got broken into twice and no one batted an eyelid at the noise even though the neighbours told the police they had heard them go off.

Queenoftheashes · 30/03/2022 09:40

We took a couple of years to get a fire alarm. Not sure about co2 but do you need it if you don’t have gas? I think there’s a first aid kit somewhere. I do try to have plasters and painkillers in.
