AIBU to ask them to read this article which ime is a fairly accurate account of the impact it has had on Russians? And indeed a fairly accurate account of the impact Putin has had on Russians, at a time when UK/EU/USA governments bolstered him?

I heard on the radio that Russia earns a billion dollars a day from it's oil and gas exports.
So again - why the need to invade other countries. Just sort your own country.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 26/03/2022 15:17

I'm sure we'll all summon up tons of support and admiration for the Russian people when they get off their arses and sort their country out. But as for now, as their soliders rape and murder innocent women and children with impunity, they can jog on.
@DysonSphere, if you are worried about media partisanship, expand your media sources.
Oh believe me I do, I watch news coverage from across the world and across political spheres of interest. You absolutely have to these days, even if it means sometimes watching coverage from outlets whose perspective you usually strongly dislike or disagree with. In Britain there are still a few news outlets you can consume that give a nod to being objective and fact driven.

But the monolithic partisanship of the msm across radio, television and paper in this country is still upsetting and frankly quite alarming.

Rod Atkinson has produced an interesting segment on the Azoz influence (or lack thereof)

9 mins on the untruths and distortions that Russia is spreading about 'Nazis' in Ukraine - including about the role of the Azov regiment of Ukraine’s National Guard. Produced by Mary Fuller, Michael Cox, Priyanka Deladia

Putin invaded Ukraine in 2014. Nobody gave a crap about it until Zelenskiy got enough bent money behind him that he was able to sweet talk NATO.
Seriously?

Transparent.

SuperSocks · 26/03/2022 16:10

The Russian state treats its people most cruelly. And of course Russians know this. Of course they do. You would have to be a fool or a moron to think otherwise and Russians are neither. They know.

Why on earth do they keep having children then?

@BookkeeperBobby

But actually what we all need to do - but never will - is support our fellow small person whether Russian or Ukrainian or whatever. This war is the same as all wars, waged to secure power for people who already have power. Your average Ukrainian will be no better off at the end of it. They weren't very well off to begin with given they lived in a country ruled by an oligarch. Your average Russian ditto. No good will come of it. Loads of people will die and it's all completely pointless. The only thing any of us bystanders can do is hear the stories of people caught in it and pressure our governments to do better.
Yes, I agree. It's always the little people who suffer in war, whilst the rich and powerful make their grabs. It's also said that extremely wealthy entities financed both sides of most of the wars of the last 100 years and have made huge profits from these wars, which wouldn't surprise me. Putin is a member of the WEF, along with people like Trudeau and NZ's Jacinda Aderne, which is something to think about too. I fell sorry for all the little people caught up in this, especially the children and I pray for peace. I can't help believe it has all been planned and orchestrated by very powerful and nefarious entities that stand to gain even more power and wealth, regardless of who wins. They will win and the all the little people, Ukranian, Russian and us in the West because of rabid inflation and shortages, will loose. God help us.
