It is not racist. But it is selfish.

Tacky. Classless. And a lot of other words come to mind

UsernameInTheTown · 25/03/2022 14:13

What repulsive people with repulsive tastes.

It’s utterly selfish, disrespectful and inconsiderate.

Momicrone · 25/03/2022 14:18

Fabfitfifties - sorry, you'd be furious if a dead uncle buried near didn't like country and western? They're dead!

diddl · 25/03/2022 14:21

What an absolute eyesore.

And the pic of them posing in it!

WifeMotherWorkRepeat · 25/03/2022 14:21

For everyone to live in a civilised society there must be rules, laws, compliance and adherence by all. You cannot make allowances otherwise society will collapse.
In this case…
The planning rules are clear for cemeteries.
The family lied and ignored the rules.
What has been erected, apart from being vulgar, breaks the rules and shows zero consideration to other relatives using the cemetery.
I hope the council pull it down and fine the family.

StaplesCorner · 25/03/2022 14:23

Doesnt matter if its vulgar, doesnt matter if its gorgeous, doesnt matter if it was placed there by travellers or devout Christians, if its reported in the Daily Mail or the Economist.

Fact is they didn't have permission and it adversely affects other mourners - selfish exactly as @CounsellorTroi says above. They're just bullies who want to hide behind accusations of discrimination to get their own way.

Wavypurple · 25/03/2022 14:24

Anyone that’s lived in Sheffield will tell you they have no idea who he is.
Lived here myself for a decade and never heard of him, no one has.
It’s a horrible memorial and disrespectful to everyone else that visits family.

They also had no planning permission.

stormswiftlysweetafton · 25/03/2022 14:25

It's absolutely hideous, but more importantly, it breaks the rules, which is not fair to everyone else who has someone buried in that cemetery.

deadlanguage · 25/03/2022 14:26

What goes through people's minds when they think a jukebox is appropriate for a public cemetary? Are they seriously self-centred enough to think all the other mourners want to listen to their music?

And all the sons got a tattoo - even the 13 yo and 15 yo. I thought that was illegal?

SwimmingOnEggshells · 25/03/2022 14:28

I have no words. It is absolutely disgusting.

As an Irish person I am absolutely ashamed that many of those people originate from here. They do themselves no favours and are given the same opportunities as everyone else but they refuse to conform and continue to live their weird and often criminal lives.

I pity the poor people who have look at that abomination when they're visiting the graves of their own loved ones.

LuluBlakey1 · 25/03/2022 14:29

@RoastedFerret

To be fair the cemetery should have rules in place if they don't want ginormous memorials. I'm not in the UK but here we have height restrictions and all tombstones are subject to approval before they are erected, you have to show drawings or photos before hand. If they didn't want something like this to happen then they should have prevented it, it's a bit late to start moaning about it after it is erected.
The cemetery has rules in place, a drawing was submitted that met them and permission granted but then she did this and it is not at all what was submitted. They've been trying to persuade her since it was put up over a year ago. She is in the wrong and knows it. It's a monstrosity. A blue-tooth solar powered jukebox that people can play what they like through? Cemeteries are a waste of space in my opinion. We should all be cremated or have natural burials in spaces that can be used as parks.
theleafandnotthetree · 25/03/2022 14:31

My aunt is buried very close to the grave of a known gangster/murderer who is from this ethnic group. While not quite on this scale the grave is vulgar, tacky and lacking in any dignity. I found it very upsetting the day of the funeral to think of my beautiful gentle aunt so near this abomination. It didn't help that as we left the graveyard, someone else from that community road past on a sulky whipping the horse quite viciously. Am fully expecting this thread and my post to be deleted...

MakeMineAdoubleChocolate · 25/03/2022 14:32

Swinmingoneggshells

Spot on.
The majority of them put on the Irish accent too. Not the northern Irish accent but the southern Irish accent and its so cringe. My son laughs when he hears it, where we live there are lots of them and they all walk round in vests in the winter and have rough accents and kids dressed in frills and ribbons. I respect anyone's way of life but this graveyard is a place to pay respects not a party zone with a jukebox and idol statues. I didn't even read the bit about the children having tattoos in honour of their father. 13 year old, my goodness, that is absolutely horrendous. My eldest is that age!!!!

peachescariad · 25/03/2022 14:32

Dear Lord...'selfish' is the understatement of the year.....it's an abomination.
I hope SCC take it down asap.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/03/2022 14:32

They're threatening there will be 'war' if the council intervene. Lovely

Ironic, too, when in the next breath his widow says how much he "loved peace"

Really, though, I'm just posting to see the deletion message ...

ExConstance · 25/03/2022 14:32

All gravestones and memorials are unnecessary.

IncompleteSenten · 25/03/2022 14:34

So basically, fuck everyone else, fuck the rules and fuck other people visiting loved ones graves who may want quiet contemplation rather than "crazy woman" and "make me an island" and shit.

We'll do what the hell we want, when we want, how we want because nobody else matters but us and if you apply the rules equally to us you're racist and we will organise a violent mob.

Nice.

allgettingtoomuch · 25/03/2022 14:35

It's very OTT but in a way I love it, wish I could do something similar for my brother. I don't know why it's bothering people for.

allgettingtoomuch · 25/03/2022 14:36

Not the jukebox though lol!

That's about the size of it.
user1471538283 · 25/03/2022 14:37

To me the whole point of visiting a loved ones grave is to have some peace to just be with them. I often used to visit my GGF's grave and chat quietly to him to come to terms with it.

Having all those people and the noise right next to him would have been awful. It doesn't have planning permission. Not everything is about discrimination.

theleafandnotthetree · 25/03/2022 14:40

Seriously? I think something like this would tarnish a person's legacy. And as always, the old 'what would happen if everyone did this?' applies. That is at least partly what's bothering people, why on earth should this particular ethnic group get to do exactly as they like, with a side dose of intimidation and victim culture built in
EmeraldShamrock1 · 25/03/2022 14:41

It is the culture.

This thread will be deleted.

In the article below the gentleman's money was made through criminal activity.
I disagree with his for that reason.
