Being called a fatty

So just out for a run (well a jog plod) .. trying to shift the baby weight ( still after 15 months) and a group of lads in a car put the window down and shout fatty at me .. then proceed to laugh and other cars around with windows down could hear and i literally died on embarrassment and had to hold back tears! So decided not to let some little bunch of idiots ruin my run I carried on but why had it bothered me so much! Im so down about it it really hit a nerve - yes it's probably true in 5ft10 and weigh 13.7 stone so carrying so extra baggage but give the girl a break that's my 3rd run this week - im trying!! Why can't I seem to let this go I'm so upset?

I knew by the title of you're thread that you would be a woman, and the person (people) using that word would be men.

What fuck faces. You do what you're doing. Sad little boys trying to appear funny in front of their mates. Don't let them have their sport. Their opinion means nothing.

suckingonchillidogs · 24/03/2022 14:45

Inadequate little twats.

Ginevere · 24/03/2022 15:01

This is why I run at night. Rather take my chances being attacked than being mocked- what fun to be a woman and have to make these choices!

Also, you aren’t fat, I’d love to be your weight.

Hrpuffnstuff1 · 24/03/2022 15:03

Just ignore it.
I had a drive by, shouting, baldie, baldie.
Then raucous laughter.

Twats 😂

doadeer · 24/03/2022 15:04

It's vile. I'm so sorry.

Hope this doesn't put you off. I lost 4 st of baby weight last year and it feels amazing. You got this 👏

workshy44 · 24/03/2022 15:07

I'm 5"7 and just over 8 stone and a few lads shouted something similar to me while out walking recently. I'm tiny.. it has nothing to do with you. They are just being abusive and obviously hate women as they are so pathetic its the only way they can feel powerful

Kego · 24/03/2022 15:09

I feel you OP. I am overweight and a size 18 and I’ve just started running but I only run in the woods because I just know this would happen and I can’t take it at the moment. Keep going!

Mummytotwonow · 24/03/2022 15:11

What scum! I bet their mums are really proud of them.
This must have been upsetting but don’t over think it as they probably do this type of thing all the time being absolute dickheads!!

MarieInternette · 24/03/2022 15:11

Whenever I see someone out running who is larger than the average runner I always think “bloody good on them! Running, especially at first, is hard and there’s someone actively trying to improve their health/fitness/weight and it’s more than most can be bothered to do”. So don’t let these idiots put you off OP. The world is full of dickheads. You must have come into contact with plenty by now! It’s just that these particular dickheads have struck at your Achilles heel.

They’re rude, horrible people but sadly for them they have to spend their lives like that. You don’t. Rise above it. You’re doing great👏👏

This!!!
LaurieFairyCake · 24/03/2022 15:13

I ran for a bus the other day and someone shouted this at me

To give context I've been overweight for 30 years and I've recently lost 5 stone (and I'm now a size 10)

No one ever shouted it at me when I was actually overweight Hmm

So to sum up Men are utter fucking DICKS whatever size you are

Keep running ThanksCakeGin

Inmyonesie · 24/03/2022 15:13

In so sorry that happened to you. Please don't take it to heart, they are disgusting for doing that. Carry on running with pride!

DoWhatYouLike · 24/03/2022 15:14

The morons. Don't give it another thought. At your height and weight, you're not particularly fat.

I was once in my car, sat at red traffic lights, minding my own business, when some arsehole in the next lane wound his window down to call me "a fat twat". I had lost 2st so it pissed me off. I called him "pencil dick"

iknowthismuchis · 24/03/2022 15:14

You're 5 10 and 13.7 stone? I bet you look amazing!

Westfacing · 24/03/2022 15:19

Bastards!

It's ultimately cowardly behaviour - they wouldn't dare open their ugly mouths if you were running alongside a man.

Sammysquiz · 24/03/2022 15:19

I’m not overweight but had something similar shouted at me the other day when running. What’s really irritating is that I know I’m not fat, but it still made me think ‘am I??’ when they shouted it, and feel a bit paranoid about my body.

Buildingthefuture · 24/03/2022 15:33

During our local half marathon loads of people are out shouting “well done” or “keep going” or “not far now”. Supportive and encouraging things, which I think are nice and literally the only time it’s appropriate to shout at a runner (or anyone!) Anything else is just cuntish behaviour. It has happened to me a few times and I’m not overweight. It’s not about you op, it’s about the tragic saddos in the car…fuck them, they aren’t worth your headspace xx

stripeyflowers · 24/03/2022 15:34

@Notadramallama

A bloke in white van shouted at me, "woah look at those tits" as I was running. I'm a size 10 and have no tits - especially in a sports bra. They are just idiots.
Does nothing ever really change?

I remember like it was yesterday, in the 70s, me and my cousin walking along and a van driver shouting 'What's the best way to Oldham? One in each hand . . . ha ha!'

I was stunned. We were 14. My cousin was very slim but with large boobs and she wasn't phased at all - apparently it was a regular occurrence. Angry

TheOrigRights · 24/03/2022 15:35

@Ncwinc

Men shout at women runners. If you’re 14 or 49, a size 6 or a size 22, you will have men shouting crap at you. You’ll get called fat, you’ll abuse, you’ll get sexual comments. You could be a perfect BMI and an elite athlete. You’ll still get called fat at some point.

I wear big, obvious headphones (rather than invisible in ear ones.) It cuts down on the comments if they think you won’t be able to hear them.

Not true. I have never been called fat while out running.

Double standards of this country make me sick, you can’t call anyone #insert any gay trans them they word# but you can still insult people for being over weight😡
Don’t let the fuckwits get to you . Keep up the good work

Kego · 24/03/2022 15:50

@TheOrigRights wonderful contributions there, really, good job.

again2020 · 24/03/2022 15:51

You should be very proud of yourself OP! It sounds like you are doing amazingly. Keep it up! Don't let those arseholes take another minute of your headspace. I know this is easier said than done.

I've been running over a decade to varying degrees and covering a range of different weights and I've heard them all, from being called a fat ugly c#nt to practically being asked out in the street 🙄
People, or more so, men can be total utter morons!
A huge well done again!

SoloSunrise · 24/03/2022 15:58

Big hugs OP!

It's so sad that some men won't just let women live their lives doing whatever they want to do in peace Sad

BitOutOfPractice · 24/03/2022 16:02

Why do do many men seem to think they have the right to comment on women’s bodies? Why?

Why do do many men continue to think we give one tiny shiny shot about what they think about our bodies?

They did it to make you feel embarrassed and smell and stupid and to control your future behaviour. That’s why they did it. Because putting you down makes them feel better about themselves. Because they don’t like women.

Don’t let them achieve any of that. Go out and run.

Well done on getting out there!
