To ask what you’re doing awake post-midnight? Part 3: Return of the Insomnia

5YearsLeft · 23/03/2022 22:08

Hey all - We’ve made it to the third thread. Whether you’ve posted before or you’re brand new, if you’re stuck awake, then you’re welcome here. We’ve had people facing it all on the last few threads: grief (loss of DPs, DHs, parents, children, and pets), illness of every sort (cancer, COVID, post COVID, sciatica, antidepressant withdrawals, stomach bugs of every sort, cold/flu, autoimmune problems, and even more diagnoses), ill children and partners (vomiting, crying, unable to sleep… and that’s just the adult family members! Ok I’m kidding, that was mostly the kids), women in labor, women with surgery fears, fears of all other sizes, anxiety, work anxiety, and of course insomnia caused by myriad things (LOTS of peri and postmenopausal insomnia).

Whatever is keeping you awake, you’re always welcome to share it here.

If you’re following in from our last thread, it’s:

Hello and welcome to yet another opening of the after midnight thread. If you’re awake for whatever reason and you don’t want to be, then this is the thread for you.

Feel free to share (or vent or whinge) as all are welcome.

@MrsGlum I’m so sorry that it’s just not going well. I wish I had better ideas but unfortunately, it’s just a really tough situation.

Neighbour has poured weedkiller over our garden and done permanent damage to our garden 😓
He did the same last year but just a few patches. Which have completely died those bits
But today all of a sudden it's one massive patch of yellow
I'm really sad about this 😓
Really upset that my garden is ruined 😓
Upset that someone would do all of this

How are you feeling @5YearsLeft

5YearsLeft · 25/03/2022 00:23

@purpleme12 Keep it all written down or just report him immediately. That has to count as damage to your property, doesn’t it? Gosh, I’m just so, so sorry you’re going through this and I’m sure it’s just beyond stressful. Try to give yourself some time at night to snuggle with your tabby or DD and take care of yourself for a bit. I’m still incredibly sore. My husband had to go and pick up a prescription for me from my doctor that’s usually quite a hike to get to, so I really appreciate him doing that (there’s one prescription that has to be handwritten every three months and can’t be photocopied or renewed or emailed or regular mailed), and I’ve been trying to go pick it up since Monday and my doctor called today and said, “Well can your husband pick it up??? Because you just don’t so und well.” And he’s seen me when I’m REALLY sick so that’s pretty bad to hear. But I just had to photograph my bruises for my neurologist and they really do look crap and I really do just feel like I can’t get out of bed. Also, I haven’t figure out how to photograph the bruise on my spine yet.

Sorry to see you up again.Smile

I’m trying bananas and lavender face cream tonight. Plus an audiobook.

Whetheryouthinkyoucan · 25/03/2022 01:14

Sorry you’re having such a sore time of it @5YearsLeft . I’m sending my best wishes, and also my admiration because I think you’re pretty awesome.

I’m just awake. I’m having a bit of an epiphany about my weight, my self image and so I’m just feeling a bit wired. I’ve put on some chilled music and I’m just puttering. I’ve written a dozen emails to my team but made them all delayed sending until the morning: I hate the thought of them feeling anxious because the boss is emailing at 2am!!

aibutohavethisusername · 25/03/2022 02:19

Hello everyone. I’ve got Covid, trying to avoid giving it to DP & DD so I’m trying to sleep on the sofa. Woke up feeling nauseous.

Confusedmeanderings · 25/03/2022 03:03

@purpleme12 that's shocking! I'm so sorry this horrible person is doing this to you.
@Thoosa bananas and lavender face cream sounds interesting! Let us know how well it works!

I had to go to Bristol for work today. It was only a small job and I spent the rest of the day mooching round The Mall. I went to all the expensive beauty concessions like Chanel and Creme De La Mer (£255 for a face cream Shock ) trying out their moisturisers because the chemo is now making my skin very dry. Then I went to Boots and bought one for a tenner - I'm a cheap girl, me!!

Oh and here's a picture of my DCat, Muldoon, helping me to inspect some new stock! I have the bed to myself tonight because he's being a dirty stop out and refusing to come in.

Confusedmeanderings · 25/03/2022 03:08

Not sure if I managed to add the picture!

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 25/03/2022 03:17

I've got covid and feel rotten

NinaJames · 25/03/2022 03:20

@Confusedmeanderings picture didn't attach - not that I can see anyway! Did you at least manage to get lots of testers?!!!

I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant, uncomfortable and starving - but refusing to eat at 0318am as I have put on far too much weight this pregnancy! I am also getting more nervous for birth as my DD was on the big side, so considering begging my midwife to refer me for a growth scan tomorrow to reassure / shit me up even more 😬.

On the plus side, birds are already up singing which is quite nice to listen to alongside the cool breeze from outside!

Internaljukebox · 25/03/2022 03:29

Hi all. Having my regular can't bloody sleep night so have given up trying. I usually just stay up and try do something productive ...so have sorted car insurance and breakdown and earned cashback, ordered a new lead for the hound , done the monthly finances and had a baileys coffee !! Alarm goes off at 5.30 so think it be an all nighter lol 😆 🥱

CheekySwifter · 25/03/2022 03:39

Another one with covid here. I woke up with a headache and runny nose at 2 and am still awake 🙄

purpleme12 · 25/03/2022 08:13

@5YearsLeft @Confusedmeanderings thank you
I just don't understand

I was looking forward to seeing a picture of your cat!

Confusedmeanderings · 25/03/2022 09:50

I'll try again!

To ask what you’re doing awake post-midnight? Part 3: Return of the Insomnia
5YearsLeft · 25/03/2022 10:26

Glad I slept in because it means I’m here just in time for the pic of @Confusedmeanderings cat to work! That is a seriously adorable moggy!!!! And he comes with lovely home furnishings. Oh and never feel bad for spending a tenner at Boots. I loooove those things that compare high end products and then tell you the best “dupes” you can get for tons less money. Like, I think there was a really high end cream for sensitive very dry skin and everyone was saying Cerave face cream for (not even) a tenner would have the same effect. But yes, I’ll read those comparisons even of products I’ll never buy - no idea why.

@Thoosa I do hope the face cream and audiobook helped a bit! I always find myself drifting off a bit during audiobooks and then I’m back awake five minutes later with no idea what’s going on. Ha.

@Whetheryouthinkyoucan Well, good luck with the epiphanies! And very thoughtful with the delayed sendings. I definitely know some bosses who wouldn’t have cared and some places where it would have been a badge of honor to be emailing at 2am, sigh. Toxic corporate culture has much to answer for.

@Whatelsecouldibecalled Oh no! We’ve had so many people having COVID and feeling rotten or having post COVID insomnia on these threads. I hope you feel better soon! I’m sure it’s just miserable.

@NinaJames That does sound nice with the birds singing! Sorry about the discomfort though, and I do hope you were able to get back to sleep.

@Internaljukebox Well, at least you’ve been terribly productive! My last all nighter, I just read a book! Ha.

@CheekySwifter Oh gosh, sorry, it really is miserable. I’ve had it twice, and it’s an absolute bastard. I do hope you feel better soon, or you’re always welcome to join us.

@purpleme12 The cat picture is here now!

Well, we’re at morning so the thread is “shut” (the thread is never really shut - you can leave a message whenever you want; or a picture of your cat, that too.) We’ll be back at midnight tonight.

Hello everyone and welcome to yet another midnight. If you’re awake for whatever reason, then this is the thread for you. Whatever is on your mind, or whatever your body is going through, feel free to share about it here. Everyone is welcome. Especially with cat (or dog, or guinea pig, or lamb) pics.

OP posts:

Speaking of which, I do hope you’re okay out there, @Wallywobbles. Maybe getting some much needed sleep post-lambing season.

Hoping I have a better night than last night leg muscles gave me hell.

Courtjobby · 26/03/2022 00:28

I had an endoscopy and a hysteroscopy the other day. Worried about getting older. Wether I'll ever get pregnant. Wether I'll loose my job. Wether I'll get a better job. The usual ...

Courtjobby · 26/03/2022 00:30

I mean laproscopsy not endoscopy XD

80sMum · 26/03/2022 00:40

My usual bedtime is about 1.00am, so being awake at midnight is pretty normal for me. I normally sleep between 4 and 6 hours a night, maybe 7 hours once in a blue moon.
I used always to be in bed by 10.30 but gradually got later and later over the last 10 years or so. Interestingly, I got my first smartphone in 2012. I'm convinced that it's the relentless availability of digital media that keeps me engaged and alert when previously I would have been asleep.
I remember when tv broadcasting used to close down for the night at around midnight. I think it would benefit me if it still did that - and if the Internet shut down too that would be even better!
I've thought about having a timer on the WiFi, but I can't do that because our smoke alarms use the WiFi to communicate with each other, so the house would be less safe at night if I shut it down.
And now I'm off to bed! Goodnight all. Smile

5YearsLeft · 26/03/2022 00:46

@Holothane Well, I definitely hope you have a better night!

@Courtjobby These things always seem so much bigger and so much scarier in the dark of the night. I’m sure you’re in some discomfort from the laparoscopy and hysteroscopy as well. I hope maybe it seems a little brighter tomorrow (or Monday about the job). But it’s also okay to be scared. Sometimes these things are scary. Sometimes worry happens. A looooot of people on these threads are up with worry, so you’re not alone.

@80sMum Interesting about the smartphones! Maybe you need to get some smoke alarms that aren’t on WiFi Grin (though it IS very smart to have them be able to alert each other throughout the house).

@5YearsLeft Thank you not slept properly for years I can’t leave the radio off because when dh comes in he likes it 0n anyway. Also arthritis and now this latest with muscles doesn’t help I end up sitting up at 4 to six for painkiller vitamin pills and coffee and toast radio goes off then try and sleep.

OnTheHillNotOverIt · 26/03/2022 01:07

Sorry to hear so many people are awake feeling poorly or worried about health.
Apart from some hot flushes I’m mainly awake from watching The Walking Dead. On season 6 and it’s more grizzly than usual so now I wish I hadn’t bothered because I’m tired and wired.
