For telling my neighbour he should stay home

My next door neighbours both tested positive for COVID on the weekend. Today I saw the husband getting in his car to go to work. He works for a medium sized public company with a lot of staff. He said he was told that he’s not legally obliged to isolate and that if he felt well enough he should still go into work. I told him he was morally obliged to isolate because he could infect colleagues who may suffer far worse than he is currently and pass it on to their relatives who may also get very ill or die. Is this what everyone is doing now.? In my industry we are pcr tested twice a week and not allowed on site until the test is negative.

It's between him and his company.

Scbchl · 23/03/2022 18:18

Its literally got absolutely nothing to do with you. The rules are the rules. Keep your nose out of other peoples business.

Vapeyvapevape · 23/03/2022 18:18

He may have sought advice from his work and they said it's ok to go in .

DearlyBeloathed · 23/03/2022 18:18

Mind your own bleeding business.

XenoBitch · 23/03/2022 18:19

YABU.
Maybe offer to pay for his sick leave if you insist he stays home.

DetailMouse · 23/03/2022 18:19

He's right. And how would you take someone lecturing you about your morals?

Saracenia · 23/03/2022 18:19

Good on you, OP. I think you've done the right thing. More and more people are getting ill and the hospitals are overwhelmed. We aren't out of this yet.

MalbecandToast · 23/03/2022 18:19

Massively unreasonable OP! it's none of your business and you need to wind your neck in! Unbelievable! Shock

Whitefire · 23/03/2022 18:20

Morals don't pay the bills or stop the shit you receive from work.

tigger1001 · 23/03/2022 18:20

Why is this your business? Do you regularly tell people to stay home?

From what you said he has told his work and they have told him to go in if he feels well enough. Clearly he feels well enough.

I strongly suspect fewer and fewer will test so you won't know if someone has covid or not.

MichelleScarn · 23/03/2022 18:21

I dream of the day when the 'covid judgey pants' threads stop!

Adeleskirts · 23/03/2022 18:22

At what point did it occur to you you were in charge of your neighbour and could tell him what to do?

How odd.

If his work expects him in then moralising on the doorstep isn't going to change anything.
HangOnToYourself · 23/03/2022 18:23

Unless peoples wages are protected they cant be expected not to work.

Lindy2 · 23/03/2022 18:24

I think it's disgusting that someone chooses to go to work when they know they are contagious with Covid. I'd have told him to stay home too.

I know legally people can now go out but morally it is wrong.

I work from home but where DH works they've returned to lateral flow tests needing to be done to enter the site because they now have an escalating outbreak.

How could someone continue to work alongside a person who knowing caused their colleagues to get sick (potentially seriously sick)?

Are the hospitals overwhelmed? The numbers in hospitals aren't at peal levels, what is causing them to be overwhelmed nowt lower numbers9

Is that being made public, I've not been able to keep up with the news recently

NewPapaGuinea · 23/03/2022 18:25

The rules are ridiculous and very irresponsible. I’d want to know if someone was attending work knowing they had covid so I can make efforts to avoid them.

Lunalicious · 23/03/2022 18:26

We have covid here but can't afford to isolate so just going about our daily lifes.

@Saracenia which hospitals are overwhelmed?

Ilikewinter · 23/03/2022 18:28

Glad your not my neighbour, id have told you where to go.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 23/03/2022 18:29

YABVU, yes. You have no right to tell anyone what they should be doing. Mind your business.

Lol you’d have had a not so nice response from me.
FatFilledTrottyPuss · 23/03/2022 18:30

I’m in two minds about this. My colleagues husband is off sick with covid a second time and 14 of his shift also have it. He first caught it last September from a colleague who died of it after only 3 weeks. The thing is, his colleague had refused the vaccine so might not have died if he’d been vaccinated and we just can’t keep going on like this indefinitely can we?
I’m starting to think herd immunity might not be so bad after all because the more of us have covid, the weaker the virus seems to become.
So many schools are struggling to stay open now with staff and pupil absences right now but if people are stuck at home because of positive tests yet feeling perfectly healthy what is the point in that?

Are you going to pay the bills of those who can't afford time off work? If not, then mind your business.

Do you really think everyone can afford to stay at home?
