For telling my neighbour he should stay home

My next door neighbours both tested positive for COVID on the weekend. Today I saw the husband getting in his car to go to work. He works for a medium sized public company with a lot of staff. He said he was told that he’s not legally obliged to isolate and that if he felt well enough he should still go into work. I told him he was morally obliged to isolate because he could infect colleagues who may suffer far worse than he is currently and pass it on to their relatives who may also get very ill or die. Is this what everyone is doing now.? In my industry we are pcr tested twice a week and not allowed on site until the test is negative.

YABU to tell him not to work. It's clear his employer has put pressure on him to work.

YANBU for mentioning it but so he's anonymous what is happening.

@Lindy2

I think it's disgusting that someone chooses to go to work when they know they are contagious with Covid. I'd have told him to stay home too.

I know legally people can now go out but morally it is wrong.

I work from home but where DH works they've returned to lateral flow tests needing to be done to enter the site because they now have an escalating outbreak.

How could someone continue to work alongside a person who knowing caused their colleagues to get sick (potentially seriously sick)?

Because some people CAN'T AFFORD TO STAY HOME. You can WFH, you clearly don't understand that not everyone else can.
Thebig3 · 23/03/2022 18:33

Hospitals are not overwhelmed....what a load of rubbish

hangrylady · 23/03/2022 18:33

You had no right to lecture him. Mind your own sodding business.

LotusCheesecake · 23/03/2022 18:36

This makes me so cross - it's the attitude of someone who has always received full sick pay and has never had to worry about money. Government guidance is that if you feel ok you should carry on as normal. Yes lots of businesses will ask people not to come in (or to WFH), but guess what, not all businesses care!

CannaBelieve · 23/03/2022 18:37

op did he tell you where to shove your opinion?? i would have done!

get over it

this is quite goady ...

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 23/03/2022 18:39

Bind your beak ! Its got absolutely FA to do with you
I get zero sick pay if I go sick. You paying my mortgage?? Yeah thought not .. I'll be going to work with covid if I'm well enough

Because morals don't put food on the table. You work from home and your husband's employer doesn't want people with covid at work. Not all employers are so accommodating so maybe think before you judge others that may not be in such a cushy position as yourself.
Cheeserton · 23/03/2022 18:41

Do you often tell your neighbors about their 'moral obligations'?

Lulu1919 · 23/03/2022 18:42

Im a moral person
But I don't get paid if I don't go into work ....I've got covid ( tested positive on Saturday ) and I am staying home although after 48 hours of feeling very grim I feel not too bad today ..so could officially go to work tomorrow - I won't be I'm taking a hit on pay as this is my first time ..but I'm the future what should I do ???

Lulu1919 · 23/03/2022 18:44

Ps I can't work from home ..I'm a TA !

Broads93 · 23/03/2022 18:44

My god you're a melt. Not everyone is entitled to sick pay nor can sick pay cover all of your bills.

Would you prefer that he stays home but his family can't eat because they're skint ?
Or if you're so bothered why don't you offer to subsidise his wage while he's off ? No?didnt think so. Mind your own business for chist sake.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/03/2022 18:44

I think if at ANY point you want to comment on the MORALITY of your neighbour you should shut the fuck up and fuck off

saraclara · 23/03/2022 18:46

I agree that he should stay home, but he's entitled not to, and I certainly wouldn't be lecturing him.

luxxlisbon · 23/03/2022 18:46

Great for you that your workplace makes you stay away when negative, due to it not being a legal requirement many workplaces are stating that if you feel fine you must come in.

You must have a great view from up their, pity moral obligations don’t pay the bills.

Crankley · 23/03/2022 18:46

Are you his mother or carer? If not, butt out and mind your own business.

"I work from home" now that just says it all doesn't it? Others don't have that luxury, nor do they have sick pay. Get a grip you absolute flake.

My sisters supervisor came to work with COVID. Now my sister is in hospital with COVID.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 23/03/2022 18:52

I say good for him, better for people to get their heads around that covid is just another cold/flu the better.

Vast majority of colleagues in my work place are double/triple vaccinated.

Most people have morals and this isn’t a point I’d be rambling about to a stranger because of your ridiculous rant.

He’s morally and legally allowed to work.

Unanananana · 23/03/2022 18:52

Oh, the cry of the rich! 'We WFH unlike the peasants so we can still stay at home and earn if we test positive. You poor ones should lose your livelihoods and homes rather than go to work just in case'.

Do one. Unless you are going to cough up yourself to cover lost earnings.

Beautifulmonster87 · 23/03/2022 18:52

None of your business.
It isn’t illegal.
He needs to earn a living
We need to learn to live with this now

Jonny1265 · 23/03/2022 18:53

None of your business. He isn't breaking the law and has had a discussion with his employer.

whynotwhatknot · 23/03/2022 18:57

theres not much you can do people arent being paid to be off anymore

its up to his company

Biker47 · 23/03/2022 19:04

I wouldn't isolate if I had it and was still well enough to go into work, so can't blame him.

TheArtfulBlogger · 23/03/2022 19:05

Reverse?

YANBU, this is such a virulent illness it is scary. A friend went to a wedding recently, anti vaxxer groom coughing all over the show. about 30% of the guests now have it
