To ask what you think of Kate Middleton?

Interested to hear some opinions. What do you think of her? I was just reading a Dailymail article where she and William are in Belize and people are complaining about them flaunting their lives and all that. People struggling and Ukraine on fire, etc and Kate and William are rubbing it in people's faces. What do you think? Yes, they definitely have it better than a lot of people but in one sense I also feel that she has to thread on eggshells being in the public eye so much. Say one thing she'll be crucified but if she says something else it will be the same, she can't win regardless of what she says or do. If she acknowledges and openly says that she's got it easy with her luxury lifestyle people will scream down her neck about that too. What do you think? What's your view on Kate?

She looks uptight and underfed. Its time to get rid of this whole " special family" nonsense.

Haven't read the whole thread (was once attacked as rude for this) because I want to answer OP's question without the influence of other posters.

I think she does a great job in the role she's in. If you see the ceremonial role of monarchy as having a function in society and in the wider world (which I think I do) then she is a great asset. She doesn't come over as needy or attention-seeking. She (like the Queen) gives the impression in public of not having an ego - in other words, she doesn't make things about HER, or her image. She appears to focus on other people, which is the whole point of the role.

Yes, she happens by great good fortune (and hard work and discipline, I bet) to look very elegant and stylish. But that's a good thing in her job. Imagine if the press thought they had grounds to criticise her physical appearance - they'd go for her and tear her to pieces. Remember what happened with Sarah Ferguson who dared to be a normal-sized woman?

In terms of the gaze from abroad, I think she and William do a good job. They've made mistakes (probably not theirs personally, to be fair) but they are learning. I think they cut a good figure on the world stage.

Kate is not embarrassing, and that's not a given in these situations.

She has suffered at the hands of the malicious press in her earlier years, and the idea that some people have that she's had an easy ride betrays a very short memory!!

On what way does she look uptight? How does one look uptight?! Does William look uptight? Or is it a special woman trait?

I hate how people think because a woman is privileged that she can be picked on about her weight, her perceived demeanour and wether she is a good mother. It’s quite creepy actually.

I also think people need to get over the fact that they probably are a very happy family, with very few problems and probably happier than your average family - that’s the power of money I guess!

NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 16/01/2024 11:20

@KarenNotAKaren Of course men can look uptight too. I genuinely feel she looks very, very stressed and cannot imagine her relaxing, she has not married into an easy family. I bet she has not had pizza or any junk food for YEARS.

Barbaquequeen · 16/01/2024 11:31

Uptight but very disciplined. Likes to be top dog and is not someone who likes to see other women succeed. She is more comfortable in the company of men. A door mat as well with the carry on she has endured from William over the years.
he comes across as a spoilt self serving d*

Goodness you seem to know a lot about her or are you just extremely judgemental.
Your comment is quite simply drivel on a thread that is nearly two years old.

How can people tell this from a picture?! Or do you know her?

The woman is not exactly someone to be revered IMO but she is a fine looking woman and takes a cracking picture.

newnamethanks · 16/01/2024 12:31

Blimey. Give the poor woman a break. When she becomes Queen the narrative will change completely; she will become a goddess upon earth who can do no wrong. I see she's only halfway there still. What a life.

CoffeeCantata · 16/01/2024 13:12

I don't like the term 'uptight' in any context. It's lazy because the meaning is so vague - it's very subjective and often tells you more about the user than the person they're describing!

If we assume the users mean tense, nervous or unrelaxed then (Newsflash) I imagine any of us in that highly formal role with the press in our faces and long lenses picking out every pimple, or looking for a reason to claim our marriage was on the rocks, would feel pretty uptight.

KarenNotAKaren · 17/01/2024 14:16

I’m calling it now - the ghouls will be speculating over the health condition that yesterday meant she had surgery, even though KP have specifically asked people not to and respect her privacy. I give it to 4pm before someone comes on the thread and says they KNOW what she’s been in for.

Shall I take bets? I’ll give good odds.

Underfed? Do you say that about every slim woman. Most slim women eat normally. It is as offensive as saying someone fat needs to go on a diet.
