To ask what you think of Kate Middleton?

Interested to hear some opinions. What do you think of her? I was just reading a Dailymail article where she and William are in Belize and people are complaining about them flaunting their lives and all that. People struggling and Ukraine on fire, etc and Kate and William are rubbing it in people's faces. What do you think? Yes, they definitely have it better than a lot of people but in one sense I also feel that she has to thread on eggshells being in the public eye so much. Say one thing she'll be crucified but if she says something else it will be the same, she can't win regardless of what she says or do. If she acknowledges and openly says that she's got it easy with her luxury lifestyle people will scream down her neck about that too. What do you think? What's your view on Kate?

I don't know, I've never met her.

MasterBeth · 28/03/2022 22:54

@LadyMonicaBaddingham

I think her name is Catherine (Duchess of) Cambridge. Ignoring people's feelings about her rank and position, the fact remains that I think it's disrespectful to consistently and deliberately use the wrong name for a person.
  • AIBU to ask what you think about Catherine Cambridge?
  • Never heard of her.
  • Oh, you know, Kate Middleton…
MrsIglesias · 28/03/2022 23:04

Nothing against but find her slightly painful to watch. Good heart probably but trying very very hard to be liked, be perfect and do the right thing. Wish she'd relax and allow herself to eat a bit and stop trying to be Diana and or the perfect princess.

MrsIglesias · 28/03/2022 23:04

I don't think we should have a royal family though

PurpleEmpress · 09/01/2023 14:29

Kate Middleton as she was then was widely reported at one time as having been badly bullied at school. If true why would she condone being part of such treatment of another person. And I include Prince Harry in this as well as Meghan.

I for one will be glad when this nonsense dies down again. Would be interesting to come back however in 100 years and read the books written about the current Royal Family.

pilates · 09/01/2023 16:16

She comes across grounded/stable and a great ambassador for our country. Not sure how anyone could dislike her - imo she hasn’t put a foot wrong.

Who has she bullied?

I think people conveniently forget there is only one Duchess who’s been investigated for bullying, further evidenced by her unusually high turnover of staff.

You go first with your opinion on someone I’m guessing you’ve never met

She's in the public eye, supported by taxpayers, and we shouldn't have an opinion on her? Be odd not to.

I love the Queen and I like having a monarchy. I don't want President Johnson or President Blair.

I can't say that I liked her too much when she was younger but I don't know why. She never did anything wrong. But after those naked pictures were everywhere and she handled it with such dignity, she won me over. I don't think she ever puts a step wrong. And honestly, Prince Harry's petulance has shown her in an even better light.
I don't think she works that much but she has a job that's just going to get busier as she gets older so I don't mind her enjoying her life now.
I think for everyone social media is going to make things harder. A very vocal minority can skew people's opinions and we're in danger of doing away with all sorts of institutions on a whim without intelligent thought of what will replace them and whether they will actually work out for the better.

Why would you think we'd get someone like Blair? We've now got Charles as king, is he any better? I mean if a king had to be elected I highly doubt Charles would have had many votes. Instead we're stuck with him. How can that be right. Confused

And yet you have bumped a thread from March 22. Interesting.

The point I was making was that as someone who had experienced such treatment why would Kate inflict it on another person.

The whole thing is desperately sad but as has been said this weeks news is used to wrap next weeks fish and chips.

Jamoffmytoast · 22/03/2022 20:57

They are not swanning around on holiday, it's an official tour and pretty sure it will be incredibly hard work, meeting all these people, official functions, speeches etc. It won't exactly be a picnic!!

Would happily swap, for a Caribbean holiday with servants.

Me too, all the work is done by others. I'm sure most of the day is their own too.

Her name isn’t Kate Middleton anymore, that was her maiden name, she’s now married.

What do we call her then, Cambridge isn't a proper name. Why not just stick to Middleton so we know who we're on about. Who really cares anyway.

Catherine Princess of Wales.

Catherine is her name and the name she uses. Kate is the name the press gave her.

I prefer to use people’s actual names and I am laughing at the objections to calling a person by her name 😂

I think that you probably shouldn't read Daily Mail articles, let alone dwell on the contents.

^This. The DM is a hate-filled shitrag. As is the Mail online.

Which is interesting since no such accusations ever made in Canada, the US, when she worked with numerous charities, or when she was an UN ambassador. If she was that bad, there would be much more and would have came out before they married. I bet it was more of a culture class than anything else.

Caithness · 09/01/2023 17:37

@Phoenixrosehere

if you mean Meghan Markle ( because why not name names etc according to other posters) why not be clear and say so.
Also why not say Meghan Markle renounced those roles in 2017 ( the clean water ambassador thing was given in 2016) in order to have a clean slate as a new royal.

Terribly interesting in terms of timelines.

I'm pretty sure William referred to her as Kate in their engagement interview. I doubt he took his cue from the press.

UN and charity staff didn’t have to live with her. Are you calling those accusers liars?

TheKeatingFive · 09/01/2023 18:07

No one has officially accused her of anything, the situation seems to have been stage-managed by Knauf, but no one actually played ball.

Some of the staff 'quitting' were then revealed to have been only planning to stay for a short time, going on to other things. Nothing to do with her.

DillDanding · 09/01/2023 18:10

Catherine is her name and the name she uses. Kate is the name the press gave her.

This is incorrect. She is known by Kate by her family and friends. Did you see their engagement interview? William called her Kate throughout. Harry calls her Kate throughout his interviews and in his book. As I’ve said previously, my friend hosted them at a sporting event not long ago and William called her Kate and never Catherine.

Her attempt to have the public name Catherine is because ‘Kate’ is, I assume, deemed not regal enough and they don’t want the proles to use her informal name. It won’t work, she’ll always be Kate to most people, apart from the forelock tuggers.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 09/01/2023 18:20

Itsnottime · 09/01/2023 17:50

Harry doesn’t call her Catherine.

Ph well if a MAN dictates her nickname then is MUST be true. Never mind what she calls herself. May as we’ll be OfWilliam 🙄

Harry and Meghan use names that their desired audience understand - Kate, Fergie etc.
