To ask what you think of Kate Middleton?

Interested to hear some opinions. What do you think of her? I was just reading a Dailymail article where she and William are in Belize and people are complaining about them flaunting their lives and all that. People struggling and Ukraine on fire, etc and Kate and William are rubbing it in people's faces. What do you think? Yes, they definitely have it better than a lot of people but in one sense I also feel that she has to thread on eggshells being in the public eye so much. Say one thing she'll be crucified but if she says something else it will be the same, she can't win regardless of what she says or do. If she acknowledges and openly says that she's got it easy with her luxury lifestyle people will scream down her neck about that too. What do you think? What's your view on Kate?

I don't know her personally but she seems fine to me. What's not to like?
Also I do not get how she and William rub their wealth and privilege in anybody's face. They have what they have and people like themselves, with high profiles, are able to raise consciousness and highlight difficulties that affect others, here and abroad, hopefully bringing about change.

There is a lot of resentment in some quarters against the rich but there are good and bad in rich or poor. It's how you use your position that counts. I wouldn't swap with Kate and William, I like where I am and nobody takes any notice of me.

Good luck to her.

I for one will be glad when this nonsense dies down again.

And yet you have bumped a thread from March 22. Interesting.

Yeah sorry about that. Only noticed once I had posted. My bad

I'm pretty sure William referred to her as Kate in their engagement interview. I doubt he took his cue from the press.

She is referred to as Catherine. By herself and her family.

Why won’t people refer to a woman by her name? No one calls Meghan Rachel do they

HamBone · 09/01/2023 18:34

I think she and William are probably well-suited and happily married. I expect he enjoys being part of the Middleton family.

FelicityFlops · 09/01/2023 18:46

I think the Princess of Wales has done remarkably well, under the circumstances.
Firstly, she had to put up with nearly a decade of press intrusion and public mockery "waity Katy" anyone?
Then the wedding and the immediate press pressure "when are you going to have a baby"!
She and the Prince of Wales seems to have a loving, friendly relationship and are doing well as parents, certainly in the public eye. There do not appear to be any dramas.
I applaud her involvement with early years and early learning.
I wish people would give her her correct title, it is, after all, only polite.
I am old enough to be her mother, but I would be very proud of her, if she were my daughter. Not an easy life to live.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 09/01/2023 19:47

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet, William clearly refers to her as Kate in this ITV interview marking their engagement. It's there for all to hear. So clearly she is known by Kate by people close to her, and goes by the more formal Catherine for 'work' reasons. I'm afraid your claim that her being called Kate was just made up by the media is clearly incorrect.

LBFseBrom · 06/01/2024 22:57

I like Kate and think she has done very well; she's reliable, very presentable, has a kindly manner and sticks to the unwritten rules Kate and William are an excellent pair. Of course, they make the odd error of judgment but it is not intentional, they wouldn't wish to offend and learn from mistakes. Nobody is perfect after all and that includes those who advise them.

The Prince and Princess of Wales seem to have slotted into their designated roles; they bring some modernity to the royal family without rocking the boat. As long as they don't turn into stuffed shirts along the way, they'll do fine. This is all just my opinion of course.

oakleaffy · 07/01/2024 06:47

Catherine seems a “Good egg”.
Nothing to frighten the horses there.

newnamethanks · 07/01/2024 07:02

Don't think about her at all unless MN or D Mail has shoved her under my nose. So don't have an opinion about her that differs from my opinion of other royals.

Nanalisa60 · 07/01/2024 09:49

She is doing a grand job.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 07/01/2024 09:53
  1. I don't think people should be calling her Kate Middleton when neither half of that is what she actually wants to be called.
  2. I instinctively don't like her very much but more in a "she's not really my kind of person" way than a "she's a nasty person" way. I see her as very bland and conventional, and I can't imagine we'd find much in common if we ever met.
  3. I don't wish her any harm at all. I imagine she's enjoying the life she's chosen for herself and she's not hurting anybody (at least directly - whether there should be a monarchy and whether the money that funds her lifestyle could be more usefully distributed is a different discussion). I'd rather have someone like her in that role than a drama queen having affairs and tantrums all over the place.
  4. (and I know I will get flamed for this but it is my honest opinion) I wish she wasn't quite so thin. There's nothing wrong with being thin/a healthy weight but she looks a bit out of proportion and I think it's unlikely that that's her natural shape. I just feel a bit sorry for her if she feels she has to maintain that shape (which I assume takes quite a lot of effort) to please the world.

The name ‘Kate’ will forever be what most people and press outlets refer to her as.

Catherine formally, but she’ll always be Kate.

She’s Kate to family and friends, it’s just us proles that are expected to now use Catherine.

And as for what do I think of her? I don’t think William could’ve done any better in terms of a perfect woman for the role. She’s smiley, happy, looks good in clothes, behaves impeccably. When these women start having opinions or off-days is when the press pounce. She appears to have neither.

But she hasn't been a "Middleton" since she took her husband's name on marriage. Even when ordering furniture in a small shop on Anglesey she used the name "Mrs Cambridge".

Grapewrath · 07/01/2024 13:46

I don’t, she doesn’t interest me at all.

Crikeyalmighty · 07/01/2024 14:09

I don't know her , so I couldn't say. It's no different to asking me what I think of you @Teadrinker11 - we only know what the press wants us to know etc

Boomer55 · 07/01/2024 18:08

To be honest, I find the entire RF to be bland and meaningless. Totally uninteresting. But, some people support it all, so no worries.

HeFellOffaDivingBoardinGuernsey · 07/01/2024 18:24

Have met K & W.

Can confirm she is absolutely STUNNING in real life, and seemed to be genuinely interested

Will however, is the star. Completely charming.

What a bizarre post and question…

I think she's a complete mug, given the amount of affairs her husband has had, that are constantly hidden by the UK press.

That aside, no other opinion.

If the affairs have been hidden by the press..how do you know about them ?
Did Prince William confess to you himself ?

Pottedpalm · 08/01/2024 08:29

Yes, do tell @Crabjuice , as you must know them well.
i think she is doing a great job, as is William.

I am fairly anti-monarchy, so in an ideal world her role wouldn't exist.
I don't know her as a person, like the rest of us, so cannot comment on her personality. The media have tried to carve 'Kate good, Meghan bad', and a lot of people have bought into that, but it's all just to sell stories imho.

She will always be KM to me. I don't do titles.
