To ask what you think of Kate Middleton?

Interested to hear some opinions. What do you think of her? I was just reading a Dailymail article where she and William are in Belize and people are complaining about them flaunting their lives and all that. People struggling and Ukraine on fire, etc and Kate and William are rubbing it in people's faces. What do you think? Yes, they definitely have it better than a lot of people but in one sense I also feel that she has to thread on eggshells being in the public eye so much. Say one thing she'll be crucified but if she says something else it will be the same, she can't win regardless of what she says or do. If she acknowledges and openly says that she's got it easy with her luxury lifestyle people will scream down her neck about that too. What do you think? What's your view on Kate?

@Comedycook

If you don't think Kate is especially thin, I suggest you google the photo of her standing next to Nicole Kidman
I find that photo shocking. However people who will say oh it’s misleading, it’s the angle etc.
PinaColada123456 · 25/03/2022 11:38

The only time Kate ever looked healthy was when she was pregnant. She is painfully thin and it's unhealthy.

tigger2022 · 25/03/2022 12:02

I think she got some hate for the scuba diving photos (though William didn't for some reason!) but the thing is the coral reef is REALLY important to Belize, both environmentally but also for their tourism/economy so those photos were actually very important in raising awareness.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 25/03/2022 12:05

Nicole Kidman ? I think you mean Nicole Urban Wink

Pipsquiggle · 25/03/2022 13:05

I think she has navigated her bizarre role very well.

None of us 'normal' people really knows anything about her other than she's sporty, she's interested in mental health and early years development, she likes photography. I think this is deliberate and good on her for keeping facets of herself private.

Things I find annoying -
Why do we and the press keep calling her 'Kate Middleton'? - They have been married for over a decade and I am pretty sure she hasn't stated she wants to keep using her maiden name.

This latest state visit to the Carribbean does seem tone deaf - the oppulence, the standing on parade - it feels like it's from a different era not 2022.
Genuine question - what is the point of these trips? Does it bring extra commerce to the area? Is it all about the 'soft power' of the Royals being deployed in parts of the world where we need more influence?

aloris · 25/03/2022 13:56

The fancy frocks are just their usual diplomatic wear, I don't fault them for that. I think they would have been criticised if they dressed down as it would look like these visits weren't worth the same level of diplomatic cachet as other countries. But Worldometer shows that in Jamaica only about 26% of people have received at least one Covid vaccine so it might have been nice to bring some vaccines rather than some fancy frocks. What substantive benefits do Caribbean countries get from being subject to the British Monarchy? Just curious.

tigger2022 · 25/03/2022 14:00

Apparently the tabloids call her Kate Middleton because that's what people search for

ArtVandalay · 25/03/2022 14:10

The only time Kate ever looked healthy was when she was pregnant. She is painfully thin and it's unhealthy.

This is utter nonsense. I have never seen her look anything but healthy. Pregnant or not - she always looks very well indeed. Some people want to think slim means unhealthy looking, but there is nothing whatsoever about her physique that makes me think she looks unhealthy. I am an inch shorter than her (at 5'8") but probably a stone heavier. I'd love to have her discipline. She is not 'painfully thin'. It's so insulting. We'd never get away with calling someone overweight 'grotesquely fat'.

I am not a royalist btw - I would happily do away with every single one of them. But it irritates me that a middle-aged woman who has had 3 kids and is in the best possible shape can be is criticised for being a healthy weight.

DisforDarkChocolate · 25/03/2022 14:37

I'm with you @ArtVandalay, she always looks fit and healthy. She comes from a family of similar looking women. I wish I had her discipline. No personal trainer, private chef and free time would give me that. If you look at candid film from the 30s onwards she would not look out of place until you get to recent years where being overweight has been normalised.

LottyD32 · 25/03/2022 14:56

@ArtVandalay

I hate it when people say Kate’s ’far too thin’. She isn’t.

She looks great - slim and toned.

I love her but she really is. This isn't a natural weight, and she's getting thinner. She looks a bit lollypop headed and when I saw her side on when she was wearing those quaker/mid calf dresses, it was quite shocking. Her stomach was almost concave in some pictures.

I'd bet my life there's a bit of bulimia or something there, probably orthorexia. When you look at the pressure she's under to look good and how she's photographed it wouldn't be too far out there to be true. And she used to regularly be papped with plasters on her hands.

CounsellorTroi · 25/03/2022 15:02

If Kate is normal sized here what does that make Nicole Kidman?

To ask what you think of Kate Middleton?
Roussette · 25/03/2022 15:18

Why do we and the press keep calling her 'Kate Middleton'? - They have been married for over a decade and I am pretty sure she hasn't stated she wants to keep using her maiden name

Well.... Sarah Duchess of York, is nearly always called Sarah Ferguson or Fergie (her maiden name) and has been for over 30 years, so I think people ought to get used to Kate being called Kate Middleton, it ain't gonna change!

Justkeeppedaling · 25/03/2022 17:05

If Kate is normal sized here what does that make Nicole Kidman?

That makes Nicole Kidman closer to the camera

CounsellorTroi · 25/03/2022 17:09

They are looking each other in the eye! Inches closer at most, not enough to explain the size difference.

Blossomtoes · 25/03/2022 17:14

@Justkeeppedaling

That makes Nicole Kidman closer to the camera

Compare their upper arms and the curve of Kidman’s stomach - nothing to do with closeness to the camera.
PinaColada123456 · 25/03/2022 17:27

@ArtVandalay I'm sorry but it disturbs me when posters like yourself say that a woman that is clearly severely underweight is 'healthy'. She'd be a size zero to size 4. Size 6 maximum. She is seriously underweight. I believe most of us can see this. It's not a value judgement of her, it's just a statement of fact. She in the past, I haven't seen any current pictures of her, but from memory, she is unhealthily thin. The only time she's ever looked healthy was when she put some all over body weight on when she was pregnant. I am not the only one saying this, many people have said the same. I've often said she has anorexia, and her physique is painfully thin. I think you're in denial, her weight has always been very unhealthy except for her pregnancy weight.

Mystery2345 · 25/03/2022 17:44

I see Kate quite often in real life. She is very slim but does not look "painful" at all and looks healthy in her face and has normal energy levels. She categorically does not look like an anorexic or unwell at all.

IcedPurple · 25/03/2022 17:45

@CounsellorTroi

If Kate is normal sized here what does that make Nicole Kidman?
I'm not sure how useful a decade old photo is, but I do think Kate is extremely thin. Whether that's 'healthy' or not I really don't know, but I very much doubt it's a natural weight for her. If you google pics of her as a student, she was always slim but not remarkably so for a young woman. Now, aged 40 and with 3 kids, she's very thin indeed.

I'm not necessarily saying she has an eating disorder, but she must be extremely disciplined in what she eats. Probably not unusual for high profile women in their 40s. Very few stay so thin through 'drinking lots of water and running after the kids'.

AnastasiaRomanov · 25/03/2022 18:43

I think Nicole Kidman is extremely thin as well, and in that photo NK almost looks normal. Which says a lot.
There is no way at all that Kate is in the normal weight range for her height and age.

fridaychatt · 25/03/2022 18:55

If Kate had an eating disorder she probably wouldn't have been able to have children. I am the same height as Kate and look gaunt if I get below 64 kilos. Maybe she is just naturally skinny.

IncompleteSenten · 25/03/2022 19:40

I have no opinion of her at all.

SecretSpAD · 25/03/2022 19:40

@nutellingyou

I'm sick of her acting like some early years expert when she allows her son to take part in blood sports.
Not to mention the lack of training as an early years practitioner, which is actually a very highly skilled job.

Or lack of training in anything worthwhile....unless smiling and waving at the same time as walking in heels is a talent we're admiring now

Burgoo · 25/03/2022 19:58

I've never met her so I wouldn't know.
From a public persona perspective (that was a lot of Ps!) she seems fairly inoffensive. Not very forthcoming and seems to know her "place" like Royal women do (I hate it, they need to show a bit of oomphf! Not be subservient!)

Blossomtoes · 25/03/2022 20:27

I'm sick of her acting like some early years expert when she allows her son to take part in blood sports.

She doesn’t act like anything. She’s the public face of an organisation incorporating experts on the early years. Big difference. George is nearly nine, well past the early years, she’s not suggesting anyone else does it.

HesterShaw1 · 25/03/2022 21:09

I think she knows she's not an expert 🙄

But she also knows that she's in a position to shine a light on something she cares about and is interested in.
