To ask what you think of Kate Middleton?

Interested to hear some opinions. What do you think of her? I was just reading a Dailymail article where she and William are in Belize and people are complaining about them flaunting their lives and all that. People struggling and Ukraine on fire, etc and Kate and William are rubbing it in people's faces. What do you think? Yes, they definitely have it better than a lot of people but in one sense I also feel that she has to thread on eggshells being in the public eye so much. Say one thing she'll be crucified but if she says something else it will be the same, she can't win regardless of what she says or do. If she acknowledges and openly says that she's got it easy with her luxury lifestyle people will scream down her neck about that too. What do you think? What's your view on Kate?

Self serving scrounging parasite - just like the rest of them.

wordler · 23/03/2022 20:42

@Wartywart

She presents herself as completely bland but underneath that is a steely person who holds absolutely fast to what she wants.
Agree - she's very resilient and disciplined - I'd find it hard not to show what I was thinking inside in all the different situations she has to show up for. Everyone who talks about her mentions how kind she is and her friends are all very loyal which I think is a good sign.

If the monarchy lasts through William's time then I think she will turn into 'national treasure' territory like the Queen Mum/Judy Dench/David Attenburgh and at that point I think she'd let her hair down and show more of a quirky fun side as an old lady.

Malteser71 · 23/03/2022 20:43

I disagree that Diana would have been a nightmare. I think she’d have been fiercely protective of them both.

I also think Diana would have made a really lovely queen. So shoot me.

VestaTilley · 23/03/2022 21:03

I think she’s great.

I’m not a monarchist, but she comes across well in a role that seems hard to get right.

Myee · 23/03/2022 21:06

She married the future King in order to get a mind numbingly boring job. Full marks Mrs. Cambridge.

JackieWeaver101 · 23/03/2022 21:06

Kate graduated in 2005.

In November 2006, she started working at Jigsaw as a part-time assistant buyer and that lasted about a year.

853ax · 23/03/2022 21:19

I think she does the job very well.
If there was no royal family there would be a president as head of state who would do these trips.
I like the way she is 'a professional' about being royal and not looking to be a celeb or in trend.
Like previously said need to be very good at something to make it look effortlessly

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 23/03/2022 21:19

I much prefer Meghan. She says what she means whether it’s liked or not.

Catherine and William are just cookie cut outs waiting for a higher title.

Scrap the monarchy for me. Out of touch and outdated.

I stood infront of her in the que in Waitrose. She likes taramasalata, dark chocolate bounties and bought glossy magazines but put them face down so I couldn't see which ones (probably the ones with her in them). She's tall and much thinner in real life than in the press.

I'm a similar age to her and I don't consider her a role model. I think she does a boring job perfectly well but could use her platform to do so much more.

AgathaMystery · 23/03/2022 21:56

@MsTSwift

I liked that she went to the Sarah everard memorial before it all kicked off. That made me warm to her.

I’m sure she’s perfectly nice but personally would do away with the royal family entirely as a concept it’s ridiculous elevating one family we bow and scrape to, The Andrew thing is the absolute last straw.

This.

She seems a perfectly nice woman.

I can’t imagine being her. For a start, I’d be famished. I have seen her IRL a couple of times and she is at most a size 6. Of course she may not be hungry. But I’d be hungry.

Interesting 😆

drunkenflamingo2 · 23/03/2022 22:07

@BattenbergdowntheHatches

Is that the one in Beaumaris *@drunkenflamingo2*? She was always nipping in there! (It is a nice Waitrose tbf) :)
It's in Menai Bridge, just down the road from Beaumaris. It was a co-op until they arrived on Anglesey then it was swiftly converted into Waitrose and she was in there a lot.
Luredbyapomegranate · 23/03/2022 22:30

@Cam22

Her name is not Kate Middleton. Are you from The Daily Mail? They persist in making that error.
🙄

Her name is Kate Middleton. It’s completely normal to refer to women who have titles by their original name eg Diana Spencer, Grace Kelly, Sarah Ferguson, because using the full title all the time is longwinded and over formal.

HomecomingKween · 23/03/2022 22:32

Imagine Waitrose tracking your moves and opening a store wherever you settle. True power.

Herani · 23/03/2022 22:36

I think she’s elegant, beautiful and seems kind, but very clearly far too thin and striving to be too perfect.
I think the visit looks awkward and anachronistic because society has moved on from outdated notions of aristocracy. That said, I’d be happy with a very streamlined ‘royal’ family representing UK rather than just politicians hosting dignitaries from abroad.
I think there is a purpose for them, but time to get rid of the idea that we are their ‘subjects’.

TheKeatingFive · 23/03/2022 22:53

but time to get rid of the idea that we are their ‘subjects’.

That's kinda the whole point of monarchy though

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 24/03/2022 05:47

You are being pedantic. Clearly obviously know one on here actually knows them. And this question is related to the public perception of them. Grow up!

ArtVandalay · 24/03/2022 09:05

I hate it when people say Kate’s ’far too thin’. She isn’t.

She looks great - slim and toned.

Indeed. Call someone 'too fat' and you'd get crucified.

She's most likely a size 6. She is very very thin. Especially for a woman who has had three children and is 40. It's not healthy.

Oh. What size is a 40yo woman with 3 children supposed to be then? Confused

She’s very tall. If she maintains her current weight into her 50s and beyond she will start to look gaunt.

She's 5'9. Hardly a giant.
