To ask what you think of Kate Middleton?

Interested to hear some opinions. What do you think of her? I was just reading a Dailymail article where she and William are in Belize and people are complaining about them flaunting their lives and all that. People struggling and Ukraine on fire, etc and Kate and William are rubbing it in people's faces. What do you think? Yes, they definitely have it better than a lot of people but in one sense I also feel that she has to thread on eggshells being in the public eye so much. Say one thing she'll be crucified but if she says something else it will be the same, she can't win regardless of what she says or do. If she acknowledges and openly says that she's got it easy with her luxury lifestyle people will scream down her neck about that too. What do you think? What's your view on Kate?

I think that both the Royal Family and the institution got very lucky with Kate. And also Sophie Wessex (apart from those early years). Anne, of course, has always been a stalwart. And even Camilla is proving to be an asset. There’s a theme there …

I don’t think Kate wanted the attention; she was certainly quite hesitant when making her first several speeches. But I think she was always aware that marrying William would make demands on her and was prepared to take the challenge.

Certainly she appears to be bland, but after the Diana debacle that’s no bad thing.

Ickle37 · 22/03/2022 23:58

Dignity, grace, composure. Couldn't be more English upper/ middle if she tried. Love her

Lunasmum1 · 22/03/2022 23:59

@VanCleefArpels, think you'll find her mother's maiden name is Goldsmith...

WomblingWilma · 23/03/2022 00:00

I get the sense she’s a good egg. No reports of her being rude to staff or demanding tiaras.

As for her being ‘lazy’, there are plenty of rich women who probably do fuck all apart from delegate. She is fulfilling a role as future UK Queen consort which is quite undertaking and is respected by people all over the world. Seems to enjoy it and doesn’t turn her nose up at meeting the plebs.

If the RF continue I’d rather have her and William than out of touch Charles and Camilla.

Her clothing choices will be restricted by protocol so I wouldn’t hold that against her.

impossible · 23/03/2022 00:05

@Crabjuice

I think she's a complete mug, given the amount of affairs her husband has had, that are constantly hidden by the UK press.

That aside, no other opinion.

Such a weird post - a modern curtain twitcher but with no view of events.
Lunasmum1 · 23/03/2022 00:06

Remember her cokehead uncle Gary Goldsmith? 🤣🤣

Frollop · 23/03/2022 00:11

I don't see the point of the RF anymore. Her and William are probably nice people but I don't think they do anything exceptional that other people couldn't do if advised and put in their position. If the RF want to continue they should fund themselves are too out of touch with most people. Kate got lucky marrying into the RF but her mother did plan it apparently...

I find this strange. You love a stranger because of their class?

Snoopsnoggysnog · 23/03/2022 00:22

I don’t think she’s from THAT Goldsmith family! Hmm

Aaaabbbcccc · 23/03/2022 00:22

I think she is great - she is a good communicator and has done some genuinely good work with her early years project and projects on getting kids outside in nature. I can’t think of how anyone could do her role better (I am not pro-monarchy by the way). I think it is not an easy job. Only people who have no clues would suggest otherwise.

Lunasmum1 · 23/03/2022 00:24

How many goldsmiths do you know? Of course they're all connected! 🙄
RantyAunty · 23/03/2022 00:31

No opinion. All I know is what the media presents.

1forAll74 · 23/03/2022 01:44

If we have to have a monarchy, and if William is ever king, Kate would fit the bill perfectly as the wife of a king. Most people like all her qualities. which always helps. and she always seems very approachable. which is a bonus for her,

Classicblunder · 23/03/2022 01:53

I find her and her sister quite odd. Like something out of the 19th century. Very expensive education which seemingly was all about finding a rich husband.

I am not all about the Protestant work ethic per se but I find it just difficult to understand why you wouldn't have any interest in a.career of any sort, even something that wasn't about the big bucks. (Please just don't with the attempts to argue that her very part time clothes buyer thing was a real job)
.
They seem very happy spending their time with their kids, albeit with lots of nanny support, and exercising and personal grooming.

Yes, there are lots of rich women like that but I don't read about them in the press. I guess a lot of it is a slight bafflement that those circles are still so into gender norms. I doubt any of their male contemporaries had extremely brief.part time jobs and then married rich women.

I also find it weird.that people look up to her - she seems nice enough but her main achievement is being thin amd discreet,.I think there are loads of other women to admire.more

Classicblunder · 23/03/2022 02:05

Of course we should refer to people by their correct names but I do notice loads and loads of women in the public eye who are referred to by a married name that they didn't take and no one ever seems as upset about that. E.g. Miriam Gonzalez Durantez was always being referred to as Miriam Clegg

stuntbubbles · 23/03/2022 04:05

Of course she’s Kate Middleton, that’s what she became famous as. The same way Cheryl Cole is Cheryl Cole (or Cheryl Tweedy if you remember that far back) and didn’t get updated to Cheryl Fernandez-Versini in the public mind. Everyone knows who you’re talking about if you say Kate Middleton and it’s disingenuous to do the “who? Oh, you mean the Duchess of Cambridge” bollocks. And titles and royalty are bollocks.

She’s just a bland, rich woman with nice clothes and no job. She never crosses my mind except tonight on Mumsnet when it’s Kate Middleton night apparently.

UsernameInTheTown · 23/03/2022 04:11

Kate seems pleasant enough. The Royal family on the other hand... And in current times they seem like a sick joke and so galling

Madferit · 23/03/2022 05:05

Sick of seeing her everywhere at the minute grinning like a loon

pilates · 23/03/2022 05:57

Nice bitchy thread op. I hope this gets removed.

Knittingchamp · 23/03/2022 06:00

I saw a photo of them sitting in a bobsleigh ans cringed. I don't know how they can live with themselves. The slavery, colonialism and everything else that the family still profit from, the suffering that lies behind their 'tour' and the utter still colonial nature of it all. It's the ultimate in hideous ridiculous bad taste.

GriddleScone · 23/03/2022 06:13

I think she's working bloody hard to compensate for that drip of a husband.

Chasingaftermidnight · 23/03/2022 06:18

I like her, in as much as I can like anyone I’ve never met. Like other posters have said, she hugely went up in my estimation for quietly attending the vigil for Sarah Everard, even though the vigil was (arguably) illegal at the time.

Mybumlooksbig · 23/03/2022 06:18

I think she's lovely, I think she holds back a lot from what she would like to do and say so she doesn't become another Diana figure, I think the nation given half the chance would cling on to her like we did Diana.
Think William is batting way above his average too Grin

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2022 06:19

OP never even bothered returning to the thread. Confused
AffableApple · 23/03/2022 07:13

Anyone got anything of note to say to the lazy "journalist"?
