To ask what you think of Kate Middleton?

Interested to hear some opinions. What do you think of her? I was just reading a Dailymail article where she and William are in Belize and people are complaining about them flaunting their lives and all that. People struggling and Ukraine on fire, etc and Kate and William are rubbing it in people's faces. What do you think? Yes, they definitely have it better than a lot of people but in one sense I also feel that she has to thread on eggshells being in the public eye so much. Say one thing she'll be crucified but if she says something else it will be the same, she can't win regardless of what she says or do. If she acknowledges and openly says that she's got it easy with her luxury lifestyle people will scream down her neck about that too. What do you think? What's your view on Kate?

@Lunasmum1 what like all the Smiths and Browns are connected?? Look up Carol’s family. Not sure there was a mining “branch” of the Goldsmith dynasty 🙄

Lurking9to5 · 23/03/2022 07:25

She's been ignoring the lazy accusation since beforevthey got married. She addressed it in her engagement interview!!
She said as long as the people around her know she is a hard worker then that's what matters to her.

spacehardware · 23/03/2022 07:27

Her idea of work and a normal persons idea of work are unlikely to be the same thing

I'm sure she works very, very hard at her marriage, and smiling

londonrach · 23/03/2022 07:27

Since covid the royals and celebraters (sorry dylexic however that is spelt) don't seem that important.

ENoeuf · 23/03/2022 07:38

Actually the only strong opinion I hold (aside from the republican one) is how cringe it is when any of the RF dance. Especially in a visit somewhere and they have to do a terrible little joining in dance. I think Harry usually did ok but the others are dad dancers incl the women.

PaperTyger · 23/03/2022 07:39

Whatever I think of them, they have not personally chosen to go to Belize have they?

This is their job.
It's feeling cringe to me but it's their job

PaperTyger · 23/03/2022 07:40

Harry and Megan can both throw moves!
The others... well!

JeremyVinesEgo · 23/03/2022 07:41

She's doing her best to do a job she will get crucified for, no matter what she does.

NalPolishRemover · 23/03/2022 07:50

I think she is hard as nails & cut from the same cloth as the queen..

stuntbubbles · 23/03/2022 07:51

It’s not a job.
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 23/03/2022 07:53

I think meh? about her personally. As a pp also said, I don’t know her, so can’t really have an opinion.

I doubt she’s an awful person, I guess she’s quite a privileged one, but it doesn’t make her bad.

I don’t think we should have a monarchy but also suspect most people in the country would vote for one if asked.

Brefugee · 23/03/2022 07:54

I always found it interesting that she had literally no past before William ie no boyfriends etc. Any she had must be sworn to secrecy!

I'm pretty sure that she (and her sister as pp mentioned) or possibly her parents, knew EXACTLY what they were doing when choosing schools and universities. I have to say i admire Catherine's tenacity in sticking to her plan even when they "split up" and so on. There is NO WAY anyone on this planet, post Diana, can say they don't know exactly what they're doing marrying into that family (Pippa did even better, IMO, tangentially related to the RF AND an impressively rich husband)

Meghan? I agree with pp that she may have thought the RF more welcoming and friendly than they are (they have worked at giving this impression) and when she realised it was all far too much effort for very little reward, went back to what she knows and is good at. The fact that she and Harry are now pretty much hustlers is neither here nor there. They trade on what they have, as we all do.

Also, it is so easy, when you live their life to be really super interested in "early years" education etc. But have they made a real difference? The best early years interventions of the last few decades were the Sure Start centres and I'd be more impressed if she'd swung in to help them. Etc etc ad infinitum ad nauseam

(dear OP - got enough for your listicle or whatever it is you're writing?)

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 23/03/2022 07:56

she's from the goldsmith family ffs 🙄 give me strength

I think Goldsmith is a relatively common name! In the sense that many families are called it.

DillDanding · 23/03/2022 08:00

Their lives of unearned and undeserved privilege annoys me.

And then I see them on these dated royal tours, being made to dance (so cringe) and feign interest at everything, smile and wave whilst people protest against them - and I feel a tiny smidge of sympathy.

Not enough to not think them entire waste of space, mind.

Cameleongirl · 23/03/2022 08:01

I’ve occasionally wondered why the Middleton parents who definitely worked their way up doing ordinary jobs, think of their three children, none of whom has realy done much….but they've done well out of it! It must be odd.
Cameleongirl · 23/03/2022 08:01

*really

Snoopsnoggysnog · 23/03/2022 08:03

I know loads of Goldsmiths Hmm

custardbear · 23/03/2022 08:19

I think she 'wears' her job well as Will's wife and a member of the RF. I doubt the trip was her idea it would be the Firm who sends them as ambassadors.

She's the opposite to her SIL, for which I am truly thankful - Megain's greedy, manipulative, bullying, oneupmanship behaviours made her a dreadful person let alone a representative of the UK, Kate comes across as sincere, kind, gentle and humble which is essential in such a role

Yes I agree
Kendodd · 23/03/2022 08:22

Indifference

Kendodd · 23/03/2022 08:26

Actually the member of the RF I feel most for is MM. The only reason is the amount of completely undeserved shit she gets (see above) . If it wasn't for that she'd also be in my indifference pile.

Roussette · 23/03/2022 08:36

Megain's greedy, manipulative, bullying, oneupmanship behaviours made her a dreadful person let alone a representative of the UK

Oh do give it a rest and stop shoehorning MM vitriol into a thread that's nothing to do with her.
Her name's Meghan by the way.

caringcarer · 23/03/2022 08:38

I think she does her job well. We know from press releases she drives her kids to school most days when she could just pack them off with the Nanny. She is always dressed appropriately when representing the Queen. I think she watches everything that she eats to keep her perfect figure. That alone must be dreadful. She has to be under constant press scrutiny yet seems to have won over many of the press by releasing regular birthday photos of her children which affords them some privacy. I think she is smarter than William, more popular than William and I think he is lucky to have her as she has undoubtedly improved his media image. I think she is well suited to her role and it is not an easy one.

TheKeatingFive · 23/03/2022 08:41

What a hero 😆

Oh and give the PR team a raise while we're at it

spacehardware · 23/03/2022 08:43

So she drives the kids to school and wears clothes.

Applause applause
