Aibu to think this isn’t okay - cleaner nespresso

Candyhats · 21/03/2022 04:56

We have a cleaner who comes in on a daily basis and obviously we have tea and instant coffee, which we keep in our home and provide for her to drink. However I noticed we are going through nespresso capsules quickly and then I realized she has nespresso(s) daily when she works. My husband does drink coffee and I’m the only one that drinks it and as a treat, even it home.

Aibu to address this with cleaner?

I tried to hide a sleeve with some capsules in, she found it and had a couple while emptying the rest into the nespresso jar.

I imagine the cleaner will be fine and understanding if you explain they are a once a week thing for yourself too.

Calandor · 21/03/2022 12:27

@AnneKisee and that's fine if that's what you like. I don't like instant coffee (scarred from the giant tubs at work probably) and think it's unpleasant. As many people do. Tbh I don't even like Nespresso that much either.

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 21/03/2022 12:36

I think your cleaner IBU for rummaging through your stuff when you are hiding it.
End of the day it's your personal coffee.. Cleaner can bring her own in.
When I go into the office I have to take my own tea/coffee.. Why is being a cleaner any different.

KineticSand · 21/03/2022 12:40

Ask her what her favourite nespresso flavours are and make sure to always have plenty in for her to enjoy.

Also consider buying her a top of the range nespresso machine & pods subscription for Christmas (on top of the Christmas bonus you already pay her).

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/03/2022 12:41

You’re mean.

The issue isn't disliking any coffee. It's feeling entitled to a more expensive version.

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 21/03/2022 12:46

Either she's there doing so much work each day that YABU to begrudge her a couple of coffees, fancy or otherwise, or she doesn't have enough to be getting on with and you could have her maybe three days a week instead of every day.

Personally, I couldn't get that aerated over this, myself - if I could afford a daily cleaner, I wouldn't worry about nespresso pods, regardless of why I needed said cleaner. If you're really pissed off, though, you're going to have to have a conversation with her about it. Or you have to hide the capsules somewhere so far removed from the machine that it's obvious that you're hiding them, which would probably do the talking for you.

Hahahaha

@WaterBottleLabel

A jar of Nescafé would work out to around 33p a cup just for coffee, no milk or sugar. A nespresso Starbucks capsule would be around 33p, again just for the coffee. So I don’t see the difference really and even if you buy different nespresso/coffee how much can the price difference really be that you’d begrudge her it? The most expensive ones I’ve ever bought were 44p a capsule, I couldn’t bring myself to begrudge someone I trusted in my home 11p.
Your maths is way off. Instant coffee would be around a tenth of the price of a espresso capsule.
ImAvingOops · 21/03/2022 12:54

It's not treating someone as a lesser human being though, to expect them to not rummage through your cupboards and to get on with the job they are being paid for.

Silversprinkles · 21/03/2022 12:55

Ah I see now I'm not the first to point out @WaterBottleLabel maths is wonky! That would one heck of an expensive jar of instant!

NaomhPadraigin · 21/03/2022 12:57

@Candyhats can you explain why you think your nespresso is too good for the cleaner?

Can you explain why the nespresso should be daily for the cleaner but too good for the OP?

Snoozysnoozy · 21/03/2022 12:59

she's doing a job I loathe

For payment, it's not a favour. You're exchanging money for a service. You owe her nothing else.

2KidsNoTime · 21/03/2022 12:59

Couldn't really give a shiny shite about her using your prize Nespresso capsules.

But honestly rather perplexed at what the cleaner does every day?! I've only known cleaners to come once or twice a week....

hangrylady · 21/03/2022 12:59

Tightarse. If you can afford a daily cleaner you can afford coffee pods.

thebabynanny · 21/03/2022 13:00

What’s the difference in cost between a capsule and an instant coffee?

Depends whether a couple of nespressos is costing the OP a fiver extra a day or 80p Hmm

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/03/2022 13:02

Am I the only one wondering if the cleaner steals pods to take home? Several a day (3+?) doesn't make sense.

I must be the only one wondering if the lady who does does the dh also and they are having an nespresso instead of a post coitus faaaaaaag.

Because if the JM Candles were lit to kill the smoke, that would be noticed also.

Dilemma.

stuntbubbles · 21/03/2022 13:02

@LakieLady

When I have workmen in the house, I always offer them real coffee, freshly ground, made in a Bialetti stove top pot. And I ask them if they'd prefer hot milk. I wouldn't dream of making them drink instant while making the good stuff for myself. It's rude. (Fine if they prefer it, and some of them do. My plumber reckons my coffee is so pokey it would get you banned from the Olympics!)

If the OP lives in an area like mine, where good cleaners are so hard to come by that they have a waiting list, she'd be well advised to let her drink whatever the fuck she likes!

Is that all? When I have workmen in the house, I fly them to Trieste to drink espressos on the Piazza Unità d'Italia, overlooking the Adriatic. No one gets a scrap of work done, of course, but at least I’m not rude.

Not necessarily. It sounds like the cleaner is essential. They might not be able to afford luxuries because she's required.

80p a day is £24 a month, not chump change.
Blossomtoes · 21/03/2022 13:05

What a horrible thread. Instant coffee good enough for the hired help and a Nespresso begrudged. It’s like someone turned the click back 100 years.

The OP also begrudges herself the Nespresso though. And it's not just 'a' nespresso, it's several, while the OP has one occasionally.
thebabynanny · 21/03/2022 13:09

@AnneKisee I’d assume the OP doesn’t have a cleaner 7 days a week! If you’re paying £30+ a day for a cleaner then an extra 80p isn’t going to make much difference.

Belladonna12 · 21/03/2022 13:09

@Belladonna12 @MurmuratingStarling it IS snobby, because you'll only drink the expensive version. If you're buying it for yourself fair enough, but this is being provided by someone else.

Rubbish. Not drinking instant coffee because you hate the taste is not snobby. I'm sure there are things that you don't eat because you don't particularly like them. Does that mean you are snobby? It would only be snobby if I was drinking it because it is the expensive version rather than because the taste is much better.
