Aibu to think this isn’t okay - cleaner nespresso

Candyhats · 21/03/2022 04:56

We have a cleaner who comes in on a daily basis and obviously we have tea and instant coffee, which we keep in our home and provide for her to drink. However I noticed we are going through nespresso capsules quickly and then I realized she has nespresso(s) daily when she works. My husband does drink coffee and I’m the only one that drinks it and as a treat, even it home.

Aibu to address this with cleaner?

I tried to hide a sleeve with some capsules in, she found it and had a couple while emptying the rest into the nespresso jar.

@TigerLilyTail

I understand, we had a similar issue with our cleaner. I always buy toilet paper from Harrods as it's the only one that doesn't give poor Tarquin a sore arse.

I bought the cleaner some special toilet paper from Aldi, which I assumed she would be familiar with and comfortable using. But, she kept using the nice toilet paper, even though I said that it wasn't for the likes of her.

One day she walked out mid-shift and called me a cunt!! Shock

The cheek of the whole thing still astounds me.

This made me laugh But the message is serious
@MintJulia providing the cleaner with better quality might give her ideas above her station though, she’s lucky she’s getting Nescafé and not a squirt of camp in some hot tap water.
OMG CAMP coffee. I remember that tar! VILE. Grin

icelolly12 · 21/03/2022 09:49

If she was necking capsules all day then that's one thing, but a single nespresso a day... no. Although, I would say it's cheeky to help herself, but overall, it's not a big deal. She deserves a nice cup of Joe if she's doing a good job.

Koalawithabook · 21/03/2022 09:50

It sounds like my previous cleaner. She also liked using paper towels for cleaning literally everything costing me 10 pounds more a months

girlmom21 · 21/03/2022 09:50

@Candyhats

Typo from OP; to be clear my DH does not drink coffee.

Cleaner required daily due to DH having a disability.

Ok so if this is genuine I think a lot of us owe you an apology for taking the mick.

Have a chat with her OP. Explain you buy them for yourself as a treat and you can't afford for them to be drunk (drank?) so regularly.

Direct her to the tea bags and instant coffee and say she's more than welcome to use them.

MurmuratingStarling · 21/03/2022 09:50

@gingerhills

Explain to her that she is a peasant and that if she is thirsty there are puddles to lap up in the road.
🤣

People have really laid into the OP and you have no idea of her situation.

Perhaps she has to have the help every day and has the occasional nespresso treat every now and then. Just because they are there, doesn't mean they are there for others to help themselves to.

Which is what I do. They are an every now and then treat, as they are pricy. And. Yes I also have a cleaner. And she does not help herself to the pods as she knows that they are not for daily consumption. But then she is very welcome to help herself to tea or other coffee, because we had that conversation.

cumonilean · 21/03/2022 09:55

As a former housekeeper for a multi millionaire I only drank their nespresso when the lady of the house offered me one. I used their instant at all other times.

I knew my place and in turn my value.

It's amazing how badly cleaners are treated when they are so essential in keeping a chaotic home running.

I'd let her have them, it's pence and she's your lifeline and her doing what she does frees you up to do what you do.

Just buy some knock-off capsules (there are plenty of good ones on Amazon) and hide the Nespressos if you resent your cleaner drinking those. If she mentions it you could even say "the Nespresso ones were costing too much at the rate we were going through them".

If she's only having one a visit though, this seems a bit mean. If she's drinking several every visit, more understandable.

Oh give over, you knew if you say you have a daily cleaner, the assumption will be that you are well off. It's up to you offer clarifications.
skybluee · 21/03/2022 09:58

How many is she taking a day? I'd think one is reasonable (personally) but if it's 3 or 4 I'm not so sure honestly.

I hope the rest of you who have laid into the OP are happy having laid into a carer (which OP presumably is for her disabled husband). The ableism on this thread is shocking.

@cumonilean your situation is very different. Please explain why the cleaner deserves BETTER than OP?

I'd agree with you if OP was a millionaire and drank fancy coffee everyday. But she herself only has it as a treat. Can you not see how she'd be unhappy that the cleaner's polishing them off?

MurmuratingStarling · 21/03/2022 10:00

@FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep

Just popped back to catch up - why so many deleted posts?!
I was wondering this too. Didn't come on til after half nine this morning, so I have only just noticed all the deletions. The thread is like a piece of swiss cheese. What on EARTH have people been saying? Shock
Bunnycat101 · 21/03/2022 10:01

When I’ve had workmen before a few have been surprised to have a nice coffee. Apparently it’s quite common for people to make themselves a nice one and have a jar of Nescafé for builders etc. it wouldn’t cross my mind to buy a product I wouldn’t normally drink for workmen.

OP if you’re cleaner is in every day, you’ll end up with a slightly different relationship with her because of the regularity. I think you can say that the pods are just a treat for you and your daily coffee is x which she’s welcome to. I would treat her in the same way you do (so if a pod is a treat for you, it’s not fair for her to be having them daily but if you had them daily, I’d think you were being v stingy to deny her one.

AnneKisee · 21/03/2022 10:01

@CounsellorTroi I hope you're happy having insulted a disabled person. God help you when you're old and infirm

tara66 · 21/03/2022 10:01

No time to read all PPs but would point out those coffee machines can break down/get faults quite easily with wear and tear. I have had 2 and would not buy another as they stopped working - so the machine's length of use has to be considered. Is the cleaner going to replace it if you consider she has broken it? I only use the coffee filters now. I would leave the instant out for cleaner and tell her that's for her to have A cup of coffee i.e.one. I used to have cleaners but they never had any coffee and I don't think it ever crossed their minds either (nor mine for that matter).

PenguinPup · 21/03/2022 10:02

Just seen your updates OP. I'm sorry for my silly posts x

Malibuismysecrethome · 21/03/2022 10:02

Well I’ve heard it all now

girlmom21 · 21/03/2022 10:02

Well now she has so you don't need to have a pop.

AnneKisee · 21/03/2022 10:02

@eldora The 'well-off' wouldn't have a daily cleaner. They'd have a housekeeper

eunace · 21/03/2022 10:02

I bet you keep a few rubbish/chipped mugs at the back of the cupboard for the tradesmen, don't you, OP?

ShirleyPhallus · 21/03/2022 10:02

@MurmuratingStarling@FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep it’s mostly piss taking, wondering if the OP is real, bit of troll hunting and parody etc
