Aibu to think this isn’t okay - cleaner nespresso

Candyhats · 21/03/2022 04:56

We have a cleaner who comes in on a daily basis and obviously we have tea and instant coffee, which we keep in our home and provide for her to drink. However I noticed we are going through nespresso capsules quickly and then I realized she has nespresso(s) daily when she works. My husband does drink coffee and I’m the only one that drinks it and as a treat, even it home.

Aibu to address this with cleaner?

I tried to hide a sleeve with some capsules in, she found it and had a couple while emptying the rest into the nespresso jar.

How did you phrase the hot drink situation to her?

“There’s tea and coffee, help yourself” YABU as you’ve told her there’s free access, you haven’t stipulated she is only to have the cheap stuff.

“There’s tea to help yourself to and you can have instant coffee but please don’t drink the nespresso” YANBU in terms of her drinking it, but I still think YABU as it’s proper right arse behaviour and showing her what you really think of her.

Sometimes I think of leaving mumsnet, but then a thread like this makes me stay Grin

Have you considered perhaps just leaving the kitchen tap running slightly? Then she can have small mouthfuls of water from time to time. Should keep her hydrated enough to continue your daily clean.

@WaterBottleLabel

A jar of Nescafé would work out to around 33p a cup just for coffee, no milk or sugar. A nespresso Starbucks capsule would be around 33p, again just for the coffee. So I don’t see the difference really and even if you buy different nespresso/coffee how much can the price difference really be that you’d begrudge her it? The most expensive ones I’ve ever bought were 44p a capsule, I couldn’t bring myself to begrudge someone I trusted in my home 11p.
Sorry but WTF!!! Please hold 🍿

....me checking the maths ....

www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/304493117

£3.50/10 = 35p

www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/297334444

Teaspoon 7g aprox

£3.00/100g×7g = 21p

OMG, why have I never worked this out before?

🤷🏼‍♀️MNres are the best!!

(Note to self buy a smaller teaspoon)

@BusterGonad

Cleaners are worthless scum. Tell her it's only tap water from now on. Put her in her place.
@BusterGonad I hope that's a joke 😳
maddy68 · 21/03/2022 09:29

Eh? It's coffee? If you can't afford the coffee you can't afford the cleaner

Gonnagetgoing · 21/03/2022 09:29

I don't drink coffee but I can sort of see where OP is coming from, the Nespresso is her 'treat' coffee regardless of how much it costs.

But OP is sounding really mean not to let her cleaner having a cup or two of Nespresso whilst she works.

The person who said about her son, I think she was just trying to say that he and the cleaner have a good relationship and the 'equals' comment at the end made it patronising.

@Guineapiggiesmalls - but the way people just love to pile onto people like OP. That's a bit much.

It's like it's Monday morning, the vipers have been resting in their nests all weekend and bam - a nice juicy hot new controversial post for them to dig their fangs into!

TonytheDog · 21/03/2022 09:33

I think you have bigger issues than the Nespresso. How do you need a cleaner everyday? Is daily housework beneath you?

Thewindwhispers · 21/03/2022 09:33

I think she’s a CF. If she wants a drink she should ask what’s ok to have not just help herself.

OP I’d say “I see you’ve discovered th nespraso pods, they’re lovely aren’t thy. But they’re expensive and we onky have them as a special treat / for my mother, would you mind sticking to the normal coffee if you need a break.”

EricCartmansMagicalUnderpants · 21/03/2022 09:34

@ImAvingOops

I'm going to go against the grain here but I don't think the cleaner should be helping herself to things in the OP's house. Having a coffee is reasonable but having enough time for three makes you wonder how many breaks she's taking that the OP is paying for. Cleaners aren't employees, they are self employed and providing a service. They are paid hourly, not a salary, so I would think the cleaner should actually be cleaning during that time. Just because the OP can afford her services, that doesn't equate to the OP having to provide for constant coffee breaks too. If I had someone in my house to fix the boiler, I'd offer a coffee but I wouldn't be expecting them to just help themselves - the cleaner works there but it is still the OPs house and belongings
This.
SallyCinnamon3009 · 21/03/2022 09:36

Also do their own nespresso

BeHappy91818 · 21/03/2022 09:38

Shouldn’t she be working when she’s there?
How long is she cleaning for if she’s coming daily?! She most only be there for an hour Confused

Just move the pods into a different room.

You know nothing of the OP's life and why have they a cleaner every day. There could be health issues or other personal reasons.
MurmuratingStarling · 21/03/2022 09:39

@Daenerys77

The lower classes have no shame nowadays. I bet she washes her hands in your bathroom with your scented soap if you aren't around to direct her to the outside tap.
Only just started reading this priceless thread, but this made me PMSL!!! Grin Off to read the other 200-odd posts now!

@Candyhats Yep, YABU!

Onelittlepiglet · 21/03/2022 09:40

@Gilead

DS wfh. He stops when the cleaner arrives to make her a nespresso coffee. She has one when she’s finished too, and they sit and chat. He values her and treats her as an equal.
This is lovely Smile
Candyhats · 21/03/2022 09:41

Typo from OP; to be clear my DH does not drink coffee.

Cleaner required daily due to DH having a disability.

I agree with this.

I also have a wide selection of hot chocolate stuff.
I’d be annoyed if someone was drinking my hotel chocolate stuff everyday instead of the galaxy, Cadbury powder I have in the cupboard. Specially as I only have the HC stuff as a treat.

Maybe the safe behind the oil painting.

WeAreTheHeroes · 21/03/2022 09:45

We had tradeswomen in last week. They provided their own coffee capsules and I said they could use ours. There's only me that drinks the stuff and only two capsules a day if I'm in the office. It's just mean to restrict others from using them if you can afford to have a machine, etc.

WeAreTheHeroes · 21/03/2022 09:46

Typo: I said they should use ours

CaMePlaitPas · 21/03/2022 09:46

I would be annoyed too OP. We all know Nespresso is an inferior coffee to Lavazza, does she have no self respect?

TinySaltLick · 21/03/2022 09:47

Next time she comes over say 'who do you think I am, George Clooney?'

Problem solved

Maireas · 21/03/2022 09:47

Ok, I've had a laugh, so thanks OP, but genuinely if you don't want her to drink your Nespresso - tell her.

She would probably just go searching for them. She seems quite determined to have them.
