Aibu to think this isn’t okay - cleaner nespresso

Candyhats · 21/03/2022 04:56

We have a cleaner who comes in on a daily basis and obviously we have tea and instant coffee, which we keep in our home and provide for her to drink. However I noticed we are going through nespresso capsules quickly and then I realized she has nespresso(s) daily when she works. My husband does drink coffee and I’m the only one that drinks it and as a treat, even it home.

Aibu to address this with cleaner?

I tried to hide a sleeve with some capsules in, she found it and had a couple while emptying the rest into the nespresso jar.

They're allowed a cup of tap water here, and the two ends off a sliced loaf (if these have not already been taken for the ducks).

Doesn't seem to be a problem and we have literally hundreds of cleaners - some only for one day! Confused

ssd · 21/03/2022 09:03

@Gilead

DS wfh. He stops when the cleaner arrives to make her a nespresso coffee. She has one when she’s finished too, and they sit and chat. He values her and treats her as an equal.
That's big of him Grin

@Rainallnight

Don’t think the OP will be back.

She’s getting a roasting.

People are getting all frothy.

I’ll get my coat Grin

Words cannot espresso how much I love this, except that I have a latte love for it.

A cleaner drinking decent coffee, how darre she!!! It should be tap water only while working.

I'm guessing this is a reverse.

CareBear50 · 21/03/2022 09:05

OP.....how dare she!! What a cheeky cleaner who doesn't know her place!

I'd dock her pay for every pod she uses. Either that or just sack her (you tight, mean employer!) Hmm

LynetteScavo · 21/03/2022 09:05

I hope she has one of your nice biscuits too

MrsMinge · 21/03/2022 09:07

Sympathies
I have the same problem with my butler

I'm going to go against the grain here but I don't think the cleaner should be helping herself to things in the OP's house. Having a coffee is reasonable but having enough time for three makes you wonder how many breaks she's taking that the OP is paying for. Cleaners aren't employees, they are self employed and providing a service. They are paid hourly, not a salary, so I would think the cleaner should actually be cleaning during that time.
Just because the OP can afford her services, that doesn't equate to the OP having to provide for constant coffee breaks too.
If I had someone in my house to fix the boiler, I'd offer a coffee but I wouldn't be expecting them to just help themselves - the cleaner works there but it is still the OPs house and belongings

QuattroFormaggi · 21/03/2022 09:09

I'd sack her purely because she's not actively boycotting Nestlé and refusing to touch one of their filthy branded machines Grin
Get yourself a cafetière and some fair trade coffee and all sit down together for a coffee and chat.
My grandmother's cleaner and she would do a monthly deep clean together. Mid-morning they sat down for a coffee with Tia Maria in it.

Nsky · 21/03/2022 09:10

A good alternative Aldi capsules, £1.99 for 10 or Tesco I think 10 for £2.50, ( both alu packaged) no need to pay for brand stuff .
Clearly your budgeting skills could be better, be kind

jessy100 · 21/03/2022 09:16

Ah op, you poor thing!! It's theft I tell you!! Have you thought of reporting her to the police? in future, you should make her wear a uniform that says peasant on it, so she knows her place.

I was thinking if my Boss (call him Bob) bought some nice drinks in for himself and he also provided the normal tea, coffee etc that I wouldn't be helping myself to his nice drinks. I'd bring in my own nice drinks. I'm just polite though. So I actually think the cleaner is a CF.

She is an employee. She's employed by the OP.

Madrenetterhere · 21/03/2022 09:18

Oh my lord. This post has given me a good laugh this morning. Thank you LOL

ShirleyPhallus · 21/03/2022 09:19

She is an employee. She's employed by the OP.

No she’s not. The OP employs her services, much like you employ the services of a hairdresser, a car valet etc

They’re only your employee if you pay tax etc, otherwise they’re self employed and you’re paying for the service

Glitteringduck · 21/03/2022 09:20

If you don't want her drinking your capsules just tell her/ ask her bring her own. I have to pay for coffee at my work. so I bring my own Confused and the owners are millionaires. I don't expect them to pay for my drinks though!

sorry you got ripped a new one on here Wink

inmyslippers · 21/03/2022 09:21

People with money have money because they are absolute mizers. Imagine begrudging someone coffee

Pebbledashery · 21/03/2022 09:21

You don't sound like a very nice person OP

jessy100 · 21/03/2022 09:22

The op's house must be filthy!! A cleaner every day.. Are you a very importent person with a very important job?Grin

Right. So she works for the OP, but isn't an employee. Fine.
I still think the OP is tight, but we'll just need to disagree on that one, Shirley. (Love your user name 😉)

ATeamAmy · 21/03/2022 09:24

Of course you are unreasonable and extremely unpleasant. When I had a cleaner, we would be making her teas, coffees if we were at home; she knew she could help herself if we weren't, and also to cold drinks/juice/cans; if I was making cakes/waffles/pancakes etc with the kids, we'd ask her to join us and if I was around making lunch, I'd also ask her if she wanted anything (which usually she declined). She was a human being in my house providing a much valued service - she was not my servant and I was not her "better". Doing a job I was grateful for, doing it well, and was a person I could 100% trust. That's worth the price of a 50p coffee capsule.

Funnily enough, I was having a chat with a chap who came to look at my alarm the other day. He said the richest customers were also the ones that never offered a drink and would never pay promptly.

Babyvenusplant · 21/03/2022 09:26

@Fridafever

Have you told her she’s only allowed the shit coffee or are you expecting her to just know?
😂😂

Biscuit for you op, maybe share it with your cleaner

AnnesBrokenSlate · 21/03/2022 09:26

I bet she uses the top tier coffee cups too Grin

You'll be the talk of the private members' club OP. Everyone else will have a Sage for the family and a Nespresso just for the staff. Wink

Befrazzled · 21/03/2022 09:26

I don’t understand why there are so many negative personal comments. The cleaner should have checked it was ok for them to have a nespresso. It is only polite. Alternatively you should have said ‘help yourself to tea and coffee but would you mind leaving the nespresso’s’. But hindsight is a wonderful thing so either have the conversation now or just accept the nespresso drinking.
