Too shy to wear sunglasses? Anyone else?

I always wanted to wear sunglasses, but also feel like I look stupid in them. Every year I see all kinds of people wearing them, and I just think to myself gosh I wish I could do that. My face is round , and I just feel I’d look stupid in them. Im honestly thinking of buying a good pair this year, and just go for it. Does anyone else feel like this about sunglasses?

Myself and DM, both very round faces. Used to feel the same as you. Then one day I bought some heavy plastic designer sunglasses. They didn't fit me at all. Looked OK but just didn't fit my face so was constantly adjusting them. Then one day I tried a pair of MK aviators on with the silicone cone pads on the nose. They stay in place and don't sit on my big chunky cheeks. Now I know what fits me and looks good. If there is even a glimmer of sunlight, out come my sunglasses. I like to think they are also slowing down the aging process around my eyes, no squinting here. DM on the other hand, still thinks people are looking at her..... They're really not. No one cares.
Go on, take some time to find the right pair

It’s vanity that motivates me to wear them. I look way cooler in my shades and my forehead would be a million times more wrinkled without them. They stop me squinting in the sun.

Thought of this thread this morning as I put my shades on. In Glasgow. It was a beautiful bright Spring morning.

I think people who say that most people look stupid in sunglasses ought to educate themselves about the risks of not protecting their eyes from UV rays.

Yep. As a blue eyed person from a hotter country I'm shocked at the lack of knowledge in this country about eye damage, particularly for light eyes.

I'm also pretty sure that I'm a better and safer driver when I'm not squinting into bright sunlight, but I suspect that particular poster upthread was in full contrarian mode...

I couldn't be without them. Just take time trying on loads of pairs to find the ones that work with your face.

Lovely13 · 21/03/2022 21:01

Just think of them as protecting your precious eyes from uv damage. I have scarring in my eyes, apparently, from the sun. And I do wear them. Prob from childhood. Light blue eyes. Keep the protective message in mind when feeling self conscious.

Yes. I feel like a nb. Don't even know why. They also smudge my makeup Blush making me look equally like a nb when I then take them off Grin

nope i almost live in them, even in winter if the sun is bright otherwise i squint like a mole and cant see well.

Dont give a toss what i look like in them, i pick ones that feel comfortable and stay on over what suits me anyway as i hate them sliding down my face.

They actually make me feel more secure - like i can sort of hide behind them and no one can see how knackered i look!

AuntieMarys · 22/03/2022 12:31

I wear them virtually every day, winter and summer. Prescription RayBans.

OP, try some 'cat eye' shaped glasses and you'll never look back.
