Too shy to wear sunglasses? Anyone else?

I always wanted to wear sunglasses, but also feel like I look stupid in them. Every year I see all kinds of people wearing them, and I just think to myself gosh I wish I could do that. My face is round , and I just feel I’d look stupid in them. Im honestly thinking of buying a good pair this year, and just go for it. Does anyone else feel like this about sunglasses?

I have regular glasses that change color in the sun, so I almost always look like I am wearing sunglasses outdoors.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 19/03/2022 18:55

Sigh

People actually do not give a shit about what you do/wear etc etc. time to realise that and do/wear what you bloody well want.

Honestly I've heard some weird stuff on here and I get that people have different worries but too shy to wear glasses. Confused

Try Hawkers.
Go for a wayfarer style it's universally good and works for round faces

Phyllis321 · 19/03/2022 19:29

I love wearing sunnies. I choose slightly angular shapes for my round face.

Grin I'm inclined to agree with you @HavfrueDenizKisi

We have had a couple of really bright sunny days, and I have been overjoyed to require sunglasses. I love sunny weather.

SquirrelG · 19/03/2022 19:58

I wear mine all year round. Honestly, no-one will take the slightest bit of notice, just get some and wear them.

Blossomtoes · 19/03/2022 20:01

My eyes are incredibly light sensitive so I wear them all year round and every time I go outside. Have done for years. I like hiding behind them.

MrsClatterbuck · 19/03/2022 20:10

I couldn't live without mine. I have sensitive eyes and still need them even on those what seem cloudy days but somehow the sun is still getting through somehow though on those days I tend to wear category 2 sun glasses. My DM has AMD and I was advised by a doctor to wear sunglasses as a preventative measure along with lutein tablets.

Lennybenny · 19/03/2022 20:17

Nobody notices other people wearing sunglasses. Everyone wears them. Not sure why you'd be thinking of other people's opinions when you're the one wearing them and they would likely be wearing them too....unless you were wearing them at night.

ohthejoy21 · 19/03/2022 20:28

Yes me!
I have a long, thin (saggy) face and a tiny head so if I bend forward they always fall off!
I spend every summer trying millions on, it's hard because you can't see yourself as others would.
I would love some advice as would love to be able to wear them and not bother with make up in the summer! They look so good on everyone except me!

Help me aswell please everyone!!

I have this problem as well, but as I have prescription sunglasses I can get some in my size because I go to the optician. The choice in my size isn't great, but at least they fit.

Maybe it is worth seeing if an optician can use the heat machines they use to adjust frames for normal glasses on your sunglasses?

Somethingsnappy · 19/03/2022 22:12

LOVE them! Masks and sunglasses together - an introvert's heaven!

This was some time back, I mean 2006/7 and there was the occasional thread on MN about how pretentious it was to wear sunnies when not abroad/on holiday. Same with wearing a hat.

Maybe there's a hangover going on here.

Don't get me started on older women with long hair and bare, bingo-winged arms.

mathanxiety · 19/03/2022 22:51

What Thirkettke said.

Madre123 · 19/03/2022 22:59

I have my prescription in both pairs of my sunglasses....wear them at every opportunity...don't worry about what other people think...buy a nice pair and enjoy

JuteWeaver · 19/03/2022 23:01

I used to feel that way. Then I got someone to help me find styles that suited me and now I love them!
Go for it.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 19/03/2022 23:01

No, I love hiding behind mine and have no choice anyway as I have really sensitive eyes.

JonSnowedUnder · 19/03/2022 23:04

I'm ok with sunglasses but feel like an idiot in a hat! Still wear one everyday in summer but I don't feel comfortable.

BeforeGodAndAllTheFish · 19/03/2022 23:05

Surely you look worse when you squint your face up because of the glare from the sun?
You'd look a lot less stupid if you just wire sunglasses.

I always think people walking or standing around on a very sunny day with they eyes screwed up would look much better (and avoid as many wrinkles) if they just put on sunglasses.

ohthejoy21 · 20/03/2022 12:31

@RampantIvy thank you!
I'll definitely try that!

OnTheB · 20/03/2022 17:41

I have a chubby face, I wear sun glasses daily. I love them. It means I can be tired or not wear eye make up in peace 😅
I buy the biggest sunglasses I can find. I have some from boohoo which are just cheapy ones .. river island and one GUCCI pair.
You should do it... looking silly is all in your head. 💐

LubaLuca · 20/03/2022 17:47

I don't understand this. I wear sunglasses year round and have never felt that I become interesting when I wear them!

Buggersticks · 20/03/2022 17:48

Hi OP, I'm sure you'd look great in sunglasses!! If you are worried about your face shape not suiting glasses (or vice versa) then round face usually suit rectangular glasses. There are sites on the Internet that can help you pick what will suit your face. Pick a pair and enjoy! 😎

Phormiumjester · 20/03/2022 17:48

As my granny would say, who do you think is looking at you?

Lincslady53 · 20/03/2022 17:52

Doesn't matter what they look like. Eyes can be permanently damaged by the sun. So get some optically good ones, and protect your eyes.
