Too shy to wear sunglasses? Anyone else?

I always wanted to wear sunglasses, but also feel like I look stupid in them. Every year I see all kinds of people wearing them, and I just think to myself gosh I wish I could do that. My face is round , and I just feel I’d look stupid in them. Im honestly thinking of buying a good pair this year, and just go for it. Does anyone else feel like this about sunglasses?

I wear them everyday. Even in the winter. My eyes are so light sensitive I get an instant migraine if I don't

StringFellow · 19/03/2022 11:16

Yes I was like this! Then was determined to finally find some that suit me, and did! You have to try loads on! Take the jump Smile

Aprilx · 19/03/2022 11:17

Never given it a moments thought. If anything I would have thought you can be more hidden behind sunglasses.

MissTT85 · 19/03/2022 11:28

I do, I feel like more people stare at me with them on, but when I am abroad I don't have a care in the world

Georgeskitchen · 19/03/2022 11:29

Unless you've got 2 heads I doubt anyone will give you a second d glance

RavenclawsRoar · 19/03/2022 11:31

My grandmother wears sunglasses every day pretty much (certainly in spring and summer but even on bright winter days). She credits her lack of eye wrinkles to this habit, and her skin is remarkably good!

IdontPracticeSanteria · 19/03/2022 11:31

Eh!? Too shy to wear sunglasses? I've never heard anything so bizarre! Surely it would be more likely the other way round?
I wear mine all year round.

hangrylady · 19/03/2022 11:32

I do feel a tit if it's not summer, not sure why though. I'm the same with hats it has to be absolutely freezing for me to wear a hat.

antwacky · 19/03/2022 11:32

Love my sunglasses, will wear them as often as I can. I have never noticed if someone looks silly in sunglasses, though I do sometimes notice if someone looks really good in them. Find a pair that suits the shape of your face and you'll never want to take them off.

Ducksurprise · 19/03/2022 11:32

@DoorLion

I would have thought the opposite - sunglasses hide you away so they’d great for any people! I wear mine at the slightest hint of any sunshine, partly because I have weak eyes and partly because I fondly believe they make me look more glamorous, although that might be because when I have them on I cants see myself properly. I tend to put them on the top of my head and forget about them - they are there right now.
I had to check I hadn't written this.
Harridan1981 · 19/03/2022 11:33

I rarely don't wear them, even in winter cause of glare.

Hats I feel that way about though, feel stupid in a hat. And lipstick.

cloverlover · 19/03/2022 11:33

find a pair you feel amazing in and go for it! i love to hide behind mine. Great disguise!!

watcherintherye · 19/03/2022 11:34

I get it, I used to feel like only 'cool' people could pull them off! Which is completely ridiculous when I must have walked past literally hundreds of people wearing them and they can't all have been super cool types

On the contrary! As soon as you don a pair of sunglasses, you automatically become the coolest of the cool. At least that’s what I always tell myself! Grin

TinaYouFatLard · 19/03/2022 11:36

I wear them year round. I have very sensitive eyes and love the feeling of hiding behind them.

Go and get yourself a pair that suit you and that aren’t too flashy or stylised. You’ll feel less self-conscious at first in a simple pair.

Amlaughingsomuchnot · 19/03/2022 11:37

I wear mine all the time because eyes very sensitive…also makes my house look cleaner because I can’t see the cobwebs ,dust as easily!!

canyoubelievethat · 19/03/2022 11:39

Love sunglasses. I live in them! I'm quite light sensitive and get headaches easily. I'm shy too and agree with PP about hiding behind them Smile

LyndaSnellsSniff · 19/03/2022 11:40

I feel a bit awkward wearing them whilst talking to someone who isn’t wearing them and vice versa: I hate talking to someone and all I can see is my own reflection gurning back at me!

But, I love hiding behind them and it takes me a while to get used to not wearing them again in the winter. 🕶

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 19/03/2022 11:41

If you have a computer with a camera you can go to
www.clublibere.com
select a style of glasses and it will 'put' them on you so you can see what you look like - even when you move your head about. It's very clever. I think other companies may offer this too.
I searched 'try sunglasses on virtually' in google.

I've just tried it on my phone it works there too!

That's my afternoon sorted now...

WasntAllThat · 19/03/2022 11:45

Just wear them! Nobody else is thinking about you, they’re all too busy thinking about themselves.

I wear them most days, big fuck off Ava Gardner ones Grin. I’m a vampire, hate the sunlight in my eyes, plus I’m vain and don’t want eye wrinkles.

sunglassesthissummer · 19/03/2022 11:46

And I also feel really stupid when I'm walking and the sun is shining directly in my eyes, eyes squinting and holding my hand up to protect my eyes from the sun and can't even see the people walking towards me. That's when I think to myself , well if you wore sunglasses you wouldn't have had this problem Blush. I haven't noticed boots had sunglasses 😅 there's one 10 mins from me so I'll try and have a go, I like the square /rectangle sunglasses, apparently they suit a round face better according to a quick google search.

It's looking like an long and early summer this year, so I'm excited. Can't wait to wear them and not have to squint my eyes again. I'll have to get over this fear and just keep wearing them tbh.

I know what you mean. I can't quite explain it but as I have seldom worn them (other than on a beach) it feels like a big statement to put them on to walk down the road. Stupid I know.

I'm going to get over myself though as they offer protection and might just stop those lines between my eyes getting deeper.

Incidentally, I have never looked at someone in sunglasses and thought they look odd or their glasses don't suit them. Worrying about this is just self consciousness on my part - the rest of the world don't really care.

Mindmatters668 · 19/03/2022 11:49

You have that the wrong way around.
People look better in sunglasses, not worse 😂

Put them on and don’t give it a thought. Your face is not too round!

ThatsNotMyGolem · 19/03/2022 11:50

I think you misjudge how much of a fuck other people give! Not a single person will notice whether you're wearing sunglasses or not.

Mindmatters668 · 19/03/2022 11:50

But polarised sunglasses then you won’t need to hold your hand up. 😎

tkwal · 19/03/2022 11:55

If you wear glasses and you like your frames get them made into sunglasses. Opticians will let you try on different shaped frames too and there are websites that will give you a virtual idea of what you would look like. I have a round face and often get complimented on my sunglasses. I usually go for a "squoval" shape of a decent size and with a grey or other soft coloured frame
