Female swimmers beaten by transgender athlete stage podium protest at ‘unfair’ result

When will the rules change as I completely agree this is unfair and I expect that you will all largely agree with me.

For anyone that doesn't agree, please explain your reasoning to help me better understand.

This reminds me of the weightlifting story from last year.

People that are born female and people who are born male should not be competing in these events together. Our physical bodies are not comparable.

Have as many genders as you can think of, but there are only two possible sexes that you can be born as and that is what eligibility in these competitions should be based on.

Don't know how to add poll.

@notyourmummy

I think that makes you a Cis woman...maybe my definition was clumsy, it's not my field of expertise!! Cis means you don't identify as something other than the gender assigned biologically to you, I guess?
Hmmmmm. Let’s use correct language here for clarity and accuracy:

Your SEX is observed a birth.

GENDER is a socially and historically constructed set of ideas about how a man (male sex) and a woman (female sex) should behave, dress, learn etc etc etc. 100 years ago, people thought women were incapable of the rational thought apparently required for having the vote. Do you identify with that little bit of oppression?

Personally, I think people should dress and behave as they wish. If Amanda wants to grow his hair long and wear stereotypically female clothing, good for him! I’m a feminist with long hair and I wear dresses: it doesn’t stop me from being clever and more rational and more assertive (all stereotypical male traits supposedly) than most men.

Ostryga · 19/03/2022 06:58

I’m so sick of men. Trans people need their own category. And then it’ll have to split into male/female by their actual sex anyway so it’s fair.

Stop letting men compete in women’s sport (and using all services designed for human adult females full stop, but that is a longer debate)

QuebecBagnet · 19/03/2022 06:59

And I don’t think the other swimmers can boycott. They risk losing their college places. So they’re being forced to partake in this craziness.

Porcupineintherough · 19/03/2022 07:00

Women in sport should stop pretending they are ok with this and refuse to compete. If they did that, this would all be sorted out very quickly. By going along with it and publically being "nice" and supportive they are modifying the water of something that it actually quite simple.

knittingaddict · 19/03/2022 07:00

@Pyjamagame

I just don't understand this 'gender identity'. I mean, the only reason I know I am a women is because I have the body of a woman. I wear trousers and t-shirts, but like cooking and DIY and I am always the navigator on family days out. I mean, how does a person 'feel' like a man or a woman? How does a person 'live' like a man or a woman? It all sounds so sexist to say 'I wear a dress and like pink therefore I must be a woman and must change my body accordingly'.
Couldn't agree more. I think it's ridiculous that our definitions of what makes a man or a woman are becoming more entrenched and more of a stereotype. It's truly baffling to me that we are going backwards with our thinking, not advancing at all.

@QuebecBagnet

Haven’t the professional USA swim body moved to saying testosterone needs to be under a certain level for three years before being allowed to compete? The college swim body needs to move to this. This swimmer wouldn’t have been allowed to compete under these rules. Because it’s unfair!
Even managing the testosterone level doesn’t affect the playing field.

People who have been through make puberty have bigger denser bones which support bigger muscles. They have more blood. Their centre of gravity is in a different place. All sorts of differences that affect sporting performance.

Testosterone is not on a continuum, a steady spectrum. The level that men with the lowest levels have starts much higher up the graph than the levels of women who have the highest. The level of testosterone allowed by the IOC is higher than a natal woman would have.

Ironic that Transwomen are allowed to take loads of drugs to allow them to use their physical advantage to compete against women while if a woman took testosterone to reach the higher levels of Transwomen to compete against those same female competitors, she would be banned!

DuckyNoMates · 19/03/2022 07:01

Ah right thanks. I don't identify as a woman really. It's just what the world has decided I am.

itssunnytoday · 19/03/2022 07:02

@Boredoutmymind

your wrong saying only 2 sexes can be born. do some research .

some women are stronger, taller than some men and other women. should these women not be allowed to compete?
transmen can compete with cis men in sports.
so transwomen can compete with cis women in sports.
should we have weight and height classes in all sports?
Where does it end?

too much transphobia on here.

Sorry but, are you 12 years old?
Porcupineintherough · 19/03/2022 07:02

@QuebecBagnet then they lose them. Standing up for your rights does sometimes involve hardship and personal financial loss - look at the American civil rights movement. But if they dont think it's worth it, no one else will.

If course there people with an intersex condition, but I'm curious about the 'more than two sexes'. Can you elaborate?

Do you also think able bodied athletes should be able to compete in the paralympics?
ThatsALotOfPassionfruit · 19/03/2022 07:04

Are there actually any instances of transmen competing in competitive male sports or is this another thing solely reserved for women to have to just suck up?

Like a PP I fear for the things my young DD will have to put up with in years to come to avoid being (allegedly) transphobic

DuckyNoMates · 19/03/2022 07:05

I don't know how people with DSD feel about being dragged into the trans debate but I don't think I'd be too happy about it tbh.

DrivingHomeChristmas · 19/03/2022 07:06

Are there any stats on how many times Transpeople don’t win at races? Maybe she was the best because she was so motivated and worked hard? It must take a lot of determination to be a trans athlete and maybe that determination is in her sport preparation too.

Easy for people to say when it’s not them. If my Dd was affected and had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on her education and was close to finishing her degree I wouldn’t be telling her to do something which could get her kicked out of college/uni.

Hertsgirl10 · 19/03/2022 07:07

What I don’t get is, why do they still
Compete with him? They should all walk out and refuse. Let him crack on with his medals if they mean that much.
Yes I said him as he’s walking his erect penis out at every opportunity and as far as I know, not of the females are doing this?
That is NOT transphobic, that is a fact.

I think that this whole situation is some kind of social experiment, I really do as I can’t imagine that these girls would put up with it?

Swimming and all sports need to go on size and weight, as the 1st commenter isn’t the only person with this whole ‘transphobic’ agenda attitude and that way if a woman is the same size and testosterone levels as this giant ‘lady’ they can compete with, but I have a feeling he will be swimming alone.

I’m surprised so many people on here agree on this as usually the majority is for the 57 gender agenda, it’s getting out of hand.

axolotlfloof · 19/03/2022 07:07

Thomas is a cheat, and it's great that it is getting some serious attention.

Seema1234 · 19/03/2022 07:07

Maybe people will see this ludicrous situation for what it is when the next Olympics have more Arthurs than Marthas stood on the women's medal podiums. That's where this is heading. Women's sport will be thrashed. Or perhaps we need to wait for a woman to be injured or killed in contact sport competing against a biological male?

Lia was previously a mediocre swimmer in the men's catergory. That person now swims faster than the women's Olympic silver medalist. If that's not a demonstration of male privellege than what is?

Lia has also prevented a female who deserves a place being on that team, and if reports are true is not averse to getting their penis out in the changing room. In any other context that would be a criminal offence.

Sex based rights are there for a reason. To protect women from sex based disadvantages, whether it's changing rooms or awards or sport.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Hmm

Being factual about scientific and biological fact is really NOT transphobic. That's just shouted out as a way to try to scare women into not speaking out about such nonsense.

TheKeatingFive · 19/03/2022 07:08

I'm not sure, but it's difficult to imagine, because they'd always be at a significant disadvantage competing against natal men.

LizzieSiddal · 19/03/2022 07:09

It’s absolutely shocking that people accept this in 2022, it would be funny if it wasn’t so tragic. The feelings and desires of one person are being put above those of all the women competing against them. It’s just misogyny in plain site. Same old same old.

I think it takes less determination. This person according to reports barely has to try and is still winning.

Are you saying that the female competitors just aren’t trying hard enough? Really?

I posted this quote which someone put on Reddit on the other thread.

It's fucking appalling, it's cheating, and it hurts real women in real life. This is not a theoretical game about potential chromosome variations.

A Virginia Tech swimmer on Thursday spoke out publicly after her teammate was crushed by the “inclusion” of Thomas.

“I’ve got a teammate who did not make the final today because she was just bumped out of finals,” the collegiate swimmer told Rapid Fire’s Savanah Hernandez. “It’s heartbreaking to see someone who went through puberty as a male and has the body of a male be able to absolutely blow away the competition.”

“She was very emotional, and it’s hard to see because it’s her last NCAAs; she really loves that race, and it was just heartbreaking that she put all of her efforts into it today … one of the best times that’s she went in a morning session and still not make it back,” she described. “It’s hard to see someone who works every day and every night still not be able to compete against someone like that.”
