Female swimmers beaten by transgender athlete stage podium protest at ‘unfair’ result

When will the rules change as I completely agree this is unfair and I expect that you will all largely agree with me.

For anyone that doesn't agree, please explain your reasoning to help me better understand.

This reminds me of the weightlifting story from last year.

People that are born female and people who are born male should not be competing in these events together. Our physical bodies are not comparable.

Have as many genders as you can think of, but there are only two possible sexes that you can be born as and that is what eligibility in these competitions should be based on.

Don't know how to add poll.

I agree with this. Especially the last line!

Can you explain why stating that you can't change sex (biological fact) is transphobic?

Phobiaphobic · 19/03/2022 10:42

@ImaniMumsnet Thank you.

Some of the posts on here are hateful and transphobic (I'm not talking about the ones saying transwomen shouldn't compete against cis women BTW, but the ones who try to insist transwomen are not women).

They're not women. This idiotic, magical thinking is why we are currently in this hell scape.

It's quite incredible to me that men have been allowed to invent a 'phobia' that frames their abuse of women and girls as brave and worthy and if the women complain they are the hateful and phobic ones.

It's like living in the upside down.

HI OP,

We are sorry you were unable to find the voting function for AIBU, it is usually an option you can select when creating a thread under AIBU. You can find it under 'Thread Type' and it says 'Enable voting' with a yes/no option. We would have loved to add this feature in for you but unfortunately we cannot add it retrospectively. On that note, we are going to move this to the 'Sex and Gender' topic as that seems like the next best fit Smile

Do you not think you should be supportive of women? Continually moving these topics speaks volumes Mumsnet.

Hi OP,

We realise you may want this back in AIBU for the wider audience. We are moving it back now but feel free to get in touch with us if you want it back in Sex and Gender.

Thank you Imani and Mumsnet for listening to us Thanks
Crystalvas · 19/03/2022 10:43

@DoobryWhatsit

I find this all particularly mind boggling considering that a few years ago the IOC banned a specific swimsuit because it was deemed to be too bouyant, and to be giving athletes an unfair advantage!
Thats disgraceful.
Justkeeppedaling · 19/03/2022 10:43

Cis means they identify with the gender they were born as, ie. Born female, identify as female.

So "man" and "woman" then? No need for the cis prefix. There are no subsets of "man" and "woman"

The times are a changing!

Helleofabore · 19/03/2022 10:44

hang on!!! OP you got put in the naughty corner? I am sorry to hear that.

However, for all those posters who have attempted to continue the gaslighting that people who will not accept the erosion of the rights of women and girls, that is females to be specific, are in the 'extreme' minority. This thread is full of MN posters who don't usually post on the feminism boards.

Every poll run along these lines is usually 90+%.

Stop telling women it is transphobic to stand up for their rights when there are very clear conflicts such as sport and single sex spaces. That tactic has lost its power because we are now seeing exactly the results of nodebate, of 'be kind' of all those inane mantras.

It is time for those telling women they are transphobic to accept that it is them that are part of an extreme minority.

Cyw2018 · 19/03/2022 10:46

I feel so sad that this is the beginning of the end of competitive sport and also recreational contact sports for women. It is very sad.

I am making a point of trying to direct my DD into sports that are more widely enjoyed as recreational activities rather than with the focus being on competition (mountain biking, rock climbing, maybe sailing or horse riding in the future), because whats the point of years of hard training for competition only for a man to turn up and say they 'feel' like a women.

SoupDragon · 19/03/2022 10:46

Being pro-women is not transphobic.

Why does not being able to add voting retrospectively equate to put this debate on a board where voting isn’t normally part of the discussion? Lots of posters don’t enable voting on their posts, it’s not always about the likes it’s about the opening up of discourse..

Shock

This is a ping pong thread! Only seen one of those in the past. That is rare.

Eyesofdisarray · 19/03/2022 10:48

@Boredoutmymind - more than 2 sexes????? Oh stop it please
People with DSD have repeatedly asked to be left out of this debate so please respect that.
If a male competes in a female event it ceases to be female and becomes mixed.
Let's be honest.
Please Mumsnet- don't move threads like this; there's more traffic in AIBU. Its important to women and awareness is needed.
Or at least ask the OP. Who would probably leave it where it started. Or they wouldn't have posted where they did

Helleofabore · 19/03/2022 10:49

@SoupDragon

Being pro-women is not transphobic.
Absolutely!

Activists hate it if you reverse it to 'if being pro-women is transphobic, then being pro-trans must be anti-women'.

Peregrina · 19/03/2022 10:49

Someone mentioned mixed races in swimming. How about the mixed doubles in tennis? You can bet your life that the men would start objecting to a mixed team consisting of a man and a transwoman. But I suppose you could have a transman and a transwoman on the same side and that would make it far.
