Female swimmers beaten by transgender athlete stage podium protest at ‘unfair’ result

When will the rules change as I completely agree this is unfair and I expect that you will all largely agree with me.

For anyone that doesn't agree, please explain your reasoning to help me better understand.

This reminds me of the weightlifting story from last year.

People that are born female and people who are born male should not be competing in these events together. Our physical bodies are not comparable.

Have as many genders as you can think of, but there are only two possible sexes that you can be born as and that is what eligibility in these competitions should be based on.

AIBU

Don't know how to add poll.
@ImaniMumsnet Stop doing that. This affects all women and girls. It does not need moving to the ‘naughty corner’ FGS.
Agree. This is not a niche topic. This is a current topic that is affecting every single aspect of our modern society as we know it.

Nnique · 19/03/2022 10:36

I think that actually, advertisers knows full well that women make most decisions on household spending and they ignore women, and women’s very strong feelings on THEIR OWN SAFETY, DIGNITY AND PROTECTIONS IN LAW, to their own peril.

I have stopped spending with MANY brands because of this.

hennybeans · 19/03/2022 10:36

The obvious unfairness makes me so angry. It seems so black and white to me. I can only hope that in the future we will look back on this insanity like we do things like martial rape being legal or women actually being men's property and just think how could that be allowed.

Sadly, I think the only thing that will make a difference is for women to refuse to compete against trans women and take the subsequent hit to their careers/ education.

lovelyweathertoday · 19/03/2022 10:36

I'm not sure why people are discussing rare intersex conditions. Thomas is a bog-standard male who identifies as a woman.

@ImaniMumsnet

HI OP,

We are sorry you were unable to find the voting function for AIBU, it is usually an option you can select when creating a thread under AIBU. You can find it under 'Thread Type' and it says 'Enable voting' with a yes/no option. We would have loved to add this feature in for you but unfortunately we cannot add it retrospectively. On that note, we are going to move this to the 'Sex and Gender' topic as that seems like the next best fit Smile

Please Mumsnet stop sidelining important women's topics! More people will see this post here - this is important!

Advertisers who call us Bleeders?

I think we ought to do a name change protest. They can’t move us all to the naughty corner

DarkDarkNight · 19/03/2022 10:37

transmen can compete with cis men in sports

Any examples Boredoutmymind?

Exactly!
sst1234 · 19/03/2022 10:37

@Boredoutmymind

your wrong saying only 2 sexes can be born. do some research .

some women are stronger, taller than some men and other women. should these women not be allowed to compete?
transmen can compete with cis men in sports.
so transwomen can compete with cis women in sports.
should we have weight and height classes in all sports?
Where does it end?

too much transphobia on here.

Did you skip all your science lessons at school? Still, not too late to do some ‘research’ and read Year 8 science books.
Alexandra2001 · 19/03/2022 10:37

@ImaniMumsnet Why have you moved it? you are stifling debate.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 19/03/2022 10:38

Please don't move this out of AIBU! It's a really important issue!

Sophoclesthefox · 19/03/2022 10:38

Oh. I see this post is in the naughty corner now.

Waitwhat23 · 19/03/2022 10:38

I suppose its slightly remarkable how long it's taken for this to be moved to the 'naughty board' given the mass reporting which will have been done by those who really don't want this to be discussed openly. All of this depends on being kept in the shadows - sunlight shows the absurdities.

Walkaround · 19/03/2022 10:38

When it comes to competitive sport, not exercising for fun at a seriously amateur level, if you aren’t good enough at a sport to compete as the biological sex you were born as, you shouldn’t compete - just live with the disappointment of not being appropriate for a sporting career that billions of other humans live with. If you are good enough to compete as the sex you were born as, then it’s bloody obvious that however many drugs you take to fight against your own body and however much surgery you have, you will always be cheating if you pretend you have levelled any playing fields - your physiology will always give you away, one way or another, it will never be a perfect simulation of a female body, even if your brain says you are female. Most of the time, this inconvenient physiology doesn’t get in the way of living as a female, but it is deranged to think it doesn’t get in the way of being an elite sportswoman.

Oh do shut up. You're being ridiculous. Two sexes are needed for reproduction in the animal world. Male and female. Same in the plant world actually.

Why? No-one asked you to?

Ellie56 · 19/03/2022 10:39

It would be wonderful if women boycotted events like this, but why should they have to do that?

If women did do this it would be interesting to see if Lia Thomas would still be so keen to participate if they turned up to the event to find no disadvantaged competitors women to compete against and no one to show their penis to in the changing rooms. Hmm

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 19/03/2022 10:39

I’ve complained at the move. can only assume the monitors have been reporting like crazy

Nnique · 19/03/2022 10:40

Biggest message to everyone here from this:

Talk about this in person. To your friends. Your daughters, mothers, sisters. Speak clearly and directly to your sons, your husbands and your fathers.

Phobiaphobic · 19/03/2022 10:40

Of course you are, @ImaniMumsnet Smile

viques · 19/03/2022 10:40

@gogohm

There's mostly 2 sexes but there are a very small number of people with an additional chromosome meaning they are neither xx or xy - I don't think this is particularly relevant to athletes as the additional chromosome causes health problems but it's too simplistic to state categorically 2 sexes.

Whether trans should compete is a different question, personally I think they should compete in their biological sex category not chosen gender because testosterone during puberty conveys advantages that are not reversed by taking hormones later in life

It is interesting how many of this “very small number”, rather more than you would expect statistically given the level of DSD in the general population, are involved in sport, particularly elite athletics. It is almost as though sports coaches are deliberately scouting for young female identified athletes who have not started their periods, have little or no breast development, are tall and can run very very fast. …………

Golly gosh, that would never happen , would it?

Nnique · 19/03/2022 10:41

(And partners/male friends/so on of course!

ImaniMumsnet · 19/03/2022 10:41

Hi OP,

We realise you may want this back in AIBU for the wider audience. We are moving it back now but feel free to get in touch with us if you want it back in Sex and Gender.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/03/2022 10:41

Perhaps someone will start another thread, seeing there is nothing in AIBU, with a poll this time.
