To wonder what the fuck they are teaching my child?

They are covering sexuality which I thought was fine. Except they have just been taught about being sexually attracted to inanimate objects, example given was a chair, or identifying as an inanimate object.

Someone asked for an example which lead to the entire rest of the lesson being about identifying as a wardrobe. And how it's valid and must be accepted.

I can't decide if he's winding me up or not, for fucks sake.

how on earth does a science teacher sit with a straight face an teach a group of children that it's perfectly fine to identify as a wardrobe.
This might have been deliberate and satirical (I hope...)

PonyPatter44 · 16/03/2022 22:37

@Thethuthinang

My teen was told that some southeast Asian people have words in their language for five different genders (which seems more reasonable) but that it would be cultural appropriation for people of European descent to use these words. Teen was highly perplexed.
Did the teacher bother to share which languages they were? It would be interesting to know.

Cultural appropriation isn't a thing, though.

DdraigGoch · 16/03/2022 22:38

I called another parent and her daughter has told her the same.

Bang goes any hope I had that he was making it up or had misheard. If both stories tally then it's likely to be what was really said.

Stop the world, I want to get off!

lunar1 · 16/03/2022 22:40

@DdraigGoch, our children aren't really friends either so it's not likely they have got together to wind us up.

On this topic, I'm on the fence Wink

Lockheart · 16/03/2022 22:41

Well someone's on the wind up, that's for sure...

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 16/03/2022 22:42

@MissyB1

But can a wardrobe have a relationship with chair that identifies as a sofa? 🤔
Only if it’s a Chippendale.

wtf 😂

While I agree that sexuality is complex, what's being taught now is ill thought through and poorly defined. It's then being delivered by teachers who are in way over their heads.

An absolute fucking mess in short.

greenlynx · 16/03/2022 22:47

It’s this rare occasion when I’m happy that my DD has learning disability so doesn’t do any complicated stuff. She would think that the teacher was winding them up.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 16/03/2022 22:48

Thank you Op - this has really made me laugh. And of course sympathies. It's all batshit and would be funny if it wasn't so serious that apparently educated adults in schools are teaching this nonsense.
I'm not sure that Safe Schools Alliance are particularly knowledgeable about sex with furniture (chooses words carefully) but they have loads of grounded safeguarding based advice for parents about some of the dross that's being taught to kids at the moment.

safeschoolsallianceuk.net/.

Presumable an intimate relationship with a wardrobe could be a serious safeguarding issue - especially if one is very small ????

TheKeatingFive · 16/03/2022 22:49

It's gone off the boil in terms of things lefty students get worked up about these days. Thankfully.

jytdtysrht · 16/03/2022 22:50

Nothing they can teach him can override what you teach him.

Psuedoshoes · 16/03/2022 22:53

When I was at school I was friends with a lovely yet painfully thin girl. She was convinced she was humongous, and bought size 14 clothes (which hung off her) and said she was glad when she'd found a shop that sized their clothes small otherwise she'd "never have gotten into them" supposedly. So desperately sad. Thankfully she got ED help and decades later is now a healthy woman. But what if we'd have been forced to indulge in her dysphoria? I dread to think what would have happened to the poor girl. This world is mad.

listsandbudgets · 16/03/2022 22:53

Wish my DCs would self identify as house maids, chefs and laundresses

Sounds a bit silly OP, hopefully they were just having a very hypothetical discussion.

If however you open you child and find a route to Maria.then let us know.

^^ Narnia ( blasted autocorrect)

MangyInseam · 16/03/2022 22:57

It puts a new spin on American Pie anyway.

liliainterfrutices · 16/03/2022 22:57

Bristol University recently issued guidance to staff about pronouns including a link to how to manage the pronouns of people who self-identify as cats. This is one of the UK’s leading universities.

Unsure33 · 16/03/2022 22:59

In which case parents should have the right to see what is being taught and have the right to withdraw their child from lessons .

Sorry I would be furious..

My dog (male) keeps trying to hump my OH (male) and his soft toy (a lion) - what should I be labelling my dog as?
EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad · 16/03/2022 23:10

Am I the only one concerned about splinters?!

If work ever insist on the pronouns in the signature thing, nya, nyan it is then 😆

RoaringtoLangClegintheDark · 16/03/2022 23:17

Being sexually attracted to inanimate objects falls under fetish, basically.

That’s where we are. Your Y8 children are having fetishes normalised to them. Along with being encouraged to supplant material reality with any old batshittery they like, and, crucially, to believe and trust adults promoting this kind of batshittery. And fetishes, of course.

There’s a word for this that begins and ends with the same letter (one that falls between f and h) but it’s not allowed to be said in this context because reasons.

(Not on The Board Where These Issues Are Talked About, anyway, so better assume the rule stands here too, just in case.)

They’re all at it. It’s quite normal for schools to include transvestism in their “LGBTQ+” teaching these days, along with other assorted fetishes/sexual practices which used to be considered niche but are now supposed to be mainstream.

Our DC really do deserve better.

RoaringtoLangClegintheDark · 16/03/2022 23:19

@lunar1

These lessons are tagged onto form time. So are with their form teacher. She teaches biology, how on earth does a science teacher sit with a straight face an teach a group of children that it's perfectly fine to identify as a wardrobe.
It is mind boggling really, isn’t it… If anyone had said to you a couple of decades ago that this is where we would be by now, you just wouldn’t have believed them, would you?
CocoLoco123 · 16/03/2022 23:21

This is fucking Twilight Zone. People normalise all sort of strange behaviour and when you say that it's bonkers they tell you to shut up and 'be kind'. Madness.
