Please read the formal review.

Essentially the teaching staff called the police because a black 15 year old girl smelt of cannabis. She was taken to a room and strip searched. She was on her period. Her mother wasn't notified. She was not given the opportunity for an appropriate adult to be present.

This is obscene

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 19/03/2022 07:13

‘I know there's nothing about this case that makes sense, but why would a school remove a child who was likely to do well from an exam? Racism yes of course, but surely the child doing well is good for the school even (especially?) if she's black.’

You don’t understand it because you’re rational but racists are irrational. I’m mixed raced. I was the best reader in my class at primary school and I was placed in a top tier group. One teacher just couldn’t stand it and targeted me. Seriously her behaviour was off the charts vindictive. Eventually she had me removed from that group. Her base racist instincts meant she cared less about the school doing well than allowing a non-white pupil to shine.

You see this behaviour play out in lots of ways. For example some people voting against their own interests in order to ‘hurt’ minorities. It’s animalistic instinctive behaviour, they can’t control their irrationality.

@ScreamingMeMe

Good for her. She is amazingly strong.

www.mylondon.news/news/uk-world-news/hackney-schoolgirl-15-strip-searched-23438692

Police and her school, the law firm Bhatt Murphy said. They said she is taking action to ensure “this never happens again to any other child”.

In a statement, she said: "I want to thank the thousands of people across the world of all backgrounds who have offered me support - both publicly and through messages conveyed to my legal team - following everything I've been through. I know I am not alone."

A protest took place in North East London today (Friday, March 18) over the revelations, with further planned this weekend across the country to mark the UN Anti-Racism Day on March 21. Scotland Yard has apologised for the incident saying it “should never have happened.” Three police officers have been investigated for misconduct by the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which is finalising its rep

Good on her! Those involved deserve sacking at the very least.

Looking at the school website, you can sense it's a shambolic place. How many governors does one school need?

That must have been so oppressive for you as a child. I hope you continued to shine in spite of that dreadful teacher.

@ScrollingLeaves - thanks. Yes I went on to get a degree and good job - so you failed Mrs Plant!!

Everyone involved is a disgrace, that poor girl, how humiliating for her.

Lampzade · 19/03/2022 17:47

Just fucking disgusting.

3Daddy31982 · 19/03/2022 18:03

The rules are that a minor has an appropriate adult - she didn't.

Should be by a qualified medical professional in a police station - 2 female pcs in school medical room.

If you're parents of the poor girl sue!

What details aren't we being told and why?

3Daddy31982 · 19/03/2022 18:05

Also sue the school. Cannabis is class B - school failed in their duty of care.

3Daddy31982 · 19/03/2022 18:09

At Uni, I would have smelt of weed. My hall stunk of the stuff. I didn't imbibe. It was known as the drugs hall... I was in CU and Catholic, volunteered with Aids Action, helped children in school.

Not every one around weed is daft enough to use it

ScrollingLeaves · 19/03/2022 18:11

“3Daddy31982

Yes, and strip searches are only supposed to be for Class A

Lampzade · 19/03/2022 18:15

@DeeCeeCherry

2 teachers thought they smelled weed on this girl so they called the police.

She didnt have weed on her and I dont see this as grounds for calling police anyway. But those teachers knew very well that calling the police on a Black child could result in devastating consequences for her.

But that the school found it acceptable that 2 police officers could come into the school, strip a girl completely naked when they also knew she was menstruating, and without a responsible adult present, is a damning indictment of the racism assault and adultification Black girls experience all the time.

How is it that the school didnt even think to themselves that a responsible adult and/or the child's parents, needed to be in that room?

The police officers who found it appropriate to carry out this sexual assault are abhorrent. They asked her to remove her sanitary towel, then put hands inside her.

I like Hackney Council's strongly worded response to this outrage in terms of safeguarding concerns and review. But this will likely be kicked into the long grass of 'lessons will be learned', never to be heard of again. The school and the police will get away with this.

Adultification of Black girls is a known issue; anyone with awareness of or has no will to understand, isnt truly interested in the rights of girls and women.

@babywalker56 very well said but at times its just not worth explaining. Not in these times.

The person that's mostly publicising this is a White man. I knew nothing about it until he hifhlighted and opined on this. Then I looked into it further.

He understands and has explained the issues and dangers clearly and concisely, not least in terms of the inhumanity of it.

You don't have to be Black to know right from wrong in situations such as this.

billy1966 · 19/03/2022 18:37

I sincerely hope that the names of everyone involved in the sexual assault of this child is named.

I hope their communities get to know what they did.

I hope the publicity of this and the future court case, puts the fear of god into the so called teachers, nurses, and police officers that would be party to the sexual assault of a child.

Am I correct that the people involved were all women?

If it is, it makes it worse.

I think they should be named, because the parents of Hackney need to know the character of teachers that are in their schools.

They are completely amoral to have participated in such an assault and I find it 100% unbelievably that would not have known this was wrong.

The dogs in the street know that such an action couldn't possibly be allowed.

I hope the police force, the school union, the teachers involved, the nurse and her union are all called to account for their complete lack of human decency.

I am naive, because I honestly would never have believed that two teachers and a nurse would stand guard outside a room while a child was sexually assaulted by two police woman.

I honestly cannot get my head around this.

I think this child and her family are just fantastic for the shear bravery of coming forward to tell the public what is going on in our schools.

That poor child. I get goose pimples everytime I think of her going through it and her poor parents hearing her story when she got home.

Lampzade · 19/03/2022 19:43

I definitely believe that there was an element of bringing this CHILD down a peg or two.
I am white and truly believe that some white people despise an intelligent , confident black person. It is as though they see this as a personal affront
My god daughter is a young black girl . She is confident , articulate, respectful, funny, kind , hearted, very academic and popular The perfect child.
A teacher at her school obviously took umbrage because of this and did everything to sabotage my goddaughter. My goddaughter is an exceptional mathematician , yet this teacher would deliberately mark my goddaughter ( the only black pupil ) down. She would find fault with everything she did , accusing her of talking when someone else was talking. My goddaughter began to lose confidence in her own academic ability. She didn’t want her mother to go into the school because she was concerned that this would make matters worse .
The teacher would mark her down (a grade B instead of A star ) meaning that she would not meet the requirements to study medicine . She was working at A star in both biology and chemistry
The only thing that ‘saved’ my goddaughter was the fact that this particular teacher left the school at the beginning of year 13 and did not give my goddaughter a predicted grade
My lovely goddaughter is now in her third year in medical school having achieved three A stars in her A levels

ScrollingLeaves · 19/03/2022 20:16

@Lampzade
How many of these stories are there I wonder? Thank goodness that teacher left and your goddaughter has been able to get her place to study medicine.

sweetbellyhigh · 19/03/2022 20:21

Surely this is in fact sexual assault?

That it was carried out under the guise of "safety" should not negate that.

WellThisIsShit · 19/03/2022 20:24

So many people have said it better but I’ll just say that I was actually shaken up when I saw the news, so goodness knows how this poor child felt going through this awful abuse.

I also think the teachers & nurse need to be held to account as well as the police.

WHY DID NO ADULT STEP IN TO HELP HER? Are they all racists?! Or cowards too?

The poor girl, I hope she can get some comfort from the surge of horror around the country.

Lndnmummy · 19/03/2022 20:31

I'd urge everyone on this thread to open their eyes and ears and souls to the racism our black children suffer. The overt and the not so overt. Please help us to protect and safe guard our children. In a situation where a child is subjected to racism and or bias, the person who is most likely to he able to stop it right there and then is often white. Let us all use the voice that comes with white privilige to ACT. Our children need protecting.

Lndnmummy · 19/03/2022 20:33

@WellThisIsShit this happens alot. Silence. Turning a blind eye. Choosing to not see. Those staff members failed in their duty of care to this young girl and they should be held accountable. They are a disgrace.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 19/03/2022 21:57

The school now appears to be completely common knowledge. If you type “child q” into google the first suggestion is “child q Xxxxx academy”.

Quirkyme · 19/03/2022 22:28

Apparently the teacher who called the police on the girl has been sacked.

Need something to be done about the police officers involved too though.

derxa · 19/03/2022 22:32

Utterly shocking. What were those teachers thinking

I'm so sorry. Most teachers aren't like this I hope. I certainly wasn't

Quirkyme: Apparently the teacher who called the police on the girl has been sacked.

Where did you hear this? First time I read of this.

It is right though but I would say the teacher got off lightly. She can just find another job. I feel there should be criminal charges against the teacher for her vindictive and racist behaviour.

The poor girl.
