Please read the formal review.

Essentially the teaching staff called the police because a black 15 year old girl smelt of cannabis. She was taken to a room and strip searched. She was on her period. Her mother wasn't notified. She was not given the opportunity for an appropriate adult to be present.

@ComDummings

Every adult involved in this assault needs to be in prison
Agreed, there are no excuses at all here.

Not sure if this has already been pointed out on here as I've not read every page www.chscp.org.uk/ but the City & Hackney safeguarding website says "If you think a child is at risk of immediate harm, please contact the police by calling 999"

Ha ha [not funny at all]

There have been 25 children strip-searched at schools in Hackney, within one year.

Of those, 23 were Black children. The other 2 not Black, but seems not White British.

It's a safeguarding crisis. I guess we are living in a society where the conditioning to fear and defer to the police is strong. So they get away with this in the knowledge that parents and wider society don't speak up where it matters.

& schools will go along with what police want then try to hide that they've done so. So, they know theyre wrong.

I wonder which teacher(s) hate targetted that girl unto the point of aiming to ensure she failed her exam, and would also be presented to the police as a criminal?

Gotajobthrunepotism · 18/03/2022 20:37

@DeeCeeCherry that’s disgraceful. Absolutely no need to strip search anyone. It’s sexual assault.

StillWeRise · 18/03/2022 20:37

what is your source for that @DeeCeeCherry?

DeeCeeCherry · 18/03/2022 20:39

We all knew who the school was days ago. & given there's been a protest at the achool today and will be another protest outside police station tomorrow - do you really suppose the name of achool would be kept quiet?

I do see exactly what you mean tho. I understand. But people aren't going to be silent. Silence is what enables getting away with abhorrent behaviour.

It's wider than Mumsnet chats and naming school on here won't change that.

Presumably MN will remove my comment if naming school is an issue

berlinbabylon · 18/03/2022 21:01

I don't think there's any point removing the name as there is an online news article (Socialist Worker!) which names students protesting and saying which school they attend. It doesn't actually say it's the same school as Q attended though. I guess you might feel this could happen to you whatever school you attend.

However, if it's the one named above, they do have a load of guff about safeguarding on their website. Ha ha again Angry

MabelMoo23 · 18/03/2022 21:05

I get it, and they shouldn’t be able to hide. The schools actions were despicable.

But Child Q has asked for privacy, and irrespective of the name being out there, we shouldn’t add to it by continuing to name the school, because that is how it becomes more public

DeeCeeCherry · 18/03/2022 21:13

MabelMoo23

Agreed, in terms of child's privacy.

But really, we live in a technology age it's impossible to keep name of school quiet.

Aside from that, people in the real world talk. I didnt get to know which school it is via online chat.

The naming school isn't the issue. What they've done, what theyve colluded with, the police's abhorrent actions is the issue.

Child hasn't been named/isn't at school anymore, thankfully.

Still, there is no way school name could have been kept quiet unfortunately. I'd be very surprised if its not been on Twitter for past day or 2.

RedWingBoots · 18/03/2022 21:15

@DeeCeeCherry most teachers are white and middle class so the police aren't and have never been a threat to them.

So when the nasty bully teacher targeted child Q they didn't think to do anything.

Plus any teacher especially a non-white teacher there who wanted to keep their job wouldn't have stood up to the bully.

RedWingBoots · 18/03/2022 21:17

Child hasn't been named/isn't at school anymore, thankfully.

This.

The incident was 2 years ago.

She clearly isn't at the school.

Everyone who went to the school at the time knows who she is. They will be made aware they are not allowed to name her on social media.

Newspapers and other media outlets aren't allowed to name her.

DeeCeeCherry · 18/03/2022 21:19

StillWeRise
what is your source for that @DeeCeeCherry?

A conversation that took place amongst some people last night.

I'm from Hackney so its a big topic around here.

The teachers involved still work at the school, but immediately left premises when protest began.

I believe some students have also taken to Twitter to say they are/were treated as criminals at the school. So the students are now telling their stories

DetailMouse · 18/03/2022 21:21

I know there's nothing about this case that makes sense, but why would a school remove a child who was likely to do well from an exam? Racism yes of course, but surely the child doing well is good for the school even (especially?) if she's black.

Comefromaway · 18/03/2022 21:22

Someone from the school on Twitter has named a teacher. I’m not sure how I feel about that. Part of me wants justice, the other abhors vigilanteeism.

I really hope no one identifies the girl.

It was a “mock” exam and back then we thought the real thing was still going to happen. They wouldn’t have cared about taking her out of a mock.
IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 18/03/2022 21:29

There have been protests at the school and there are clips of that on Twitter.

VladmirsPoutine · 18/03/2022 21:37

The girl's family intend to sue the school too. I hope not a single teacher or police office involved never work again.

And I’d like to add that (if your figures come from the report) in 80% of those cases nothing was found.

Plus, the aim should be safeguarding for vulnerability, not criminalising even if drugs are suspected ( the report said this.)

ScreamingMeMe · 18/03/2022 22:50

Good for her. She is amazingly strong.

www.mylondon.news/news/uk-world-news/hackney-schoolgirl-15-strip-searched-23438692

Police and her school, the law firm Bhatt Murphy said. They said she is taking action to ensure “this never happens again to any other child”.

In a statement, she said: "I want to thank the thousands of people across the world of all backgrounds who have offered me support - both publicly and through messages conveyed to my legal team - following everything I've been through. I know I am not alone."

A protest took place in North East London today (Friday, March 18) over the revelations, with further planned this weekend across the country to mark the UN Anti-Racism Day on March 21. Scotland Yard has apologised for the incident saying it “should never have happened.” Three police officers have been investigated for misconduct by the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which is finalising its rep

Can you reference those stats at all please as I had read that 25 children were strip searched in total in the policing area in the time period in question, but not necessarily in schools and out of those 25, 15 were black, 2 were white.

Are your stats separate to those referenced in the report. (I like to make sure things are accurate and I can reference my sources when I share this stuff which I am doing to keep it in the minds of my social media contacts)

Hatred isn't rational. Being a Grade A student doesnt stop teacher(s) targetting you and using racism and bias against you.
