I’ve so so many friends that have these now and really do feel I’m the odd one out
Friends all between 30-45 and look amazing! I’ve got to admit I’m very tempted but a bit nervous and also Ttc one last time, so unsure if it’s safe to do if Ttc???
and should I wait! I’m 40 early next year so was thinking about maybe then!
So how many have tried /or already do it? What’s your thoughts? Good?

I have baby today which is small amounts and it’s cheap as done by a qualified person training someone else
I like it. It makes me look better and less tired. If I mention needing Botox (as in top up) people tell me I shouldn’t ruin myself and I don’t need it .. not realising I already do. So it’s not obvious.
It’s very common now. Each to their own

Grapewrath · 13/03/2022 16:55

Baby botox not baby today lol

SilkenBunny · 13/03/2022 16:58

Thanks for sharing that @Wagsandclaws - it’s interesting to hear of your experience.

Pics of before, second pic was taken in the morning before surgery and the one next to it with my hair down is me in the way home in the car after surgery.

Last pic is me now - yes my forehead is a bit too wrinkle free for my liking but with the help of retinol my skin is probably the best it's ever been.

The problem with losing so much weight in your late 40's is that everything sagged.

Surgery, Botox and fillers fixed that. It's a personal choice. I also don't think that young people should have Botox and fillers but it's up to them.

I won't and can't bash them for as it's helped me be much happier with my new smaller self so 🤷‍♀️

You look utterly amazing, and incredibly natural. You are an excellent example of what the nay sayers insist doesn't exist.
veevee04 · 13/03/2022 17:03

I have baby Botox no one has noticed , my makeup settles better it's my face so I don't give a shit what people think.

Delatron · 13/03/2022 17:03

You do look amazing @Wagsandclaws

I’m so sick of everyone saying all people who have work done look ‘terrible’ it’s simply not true.! There’s some very good work out there.

Gonnagetgoing · 13/03/2022 17:04
@Gonnagetgoing

I was addressing the comment of “you can always tell” I disagree.

I’m 48 - it just makes me look a little bit fresher. I don’t look like and will never look like Courtney coz etc.
@Huckleberries73 - and I was meaning that the over botoxed fillers look I can almost always tell. Especially at a certain age.

Previous boyfriend’s father was a plastic surgeon and he showed me good/bad surgery photos when I was interested (not in having it!).

Yes I’ve got slight frown lines, yes maybe slight marionette lines but nothing I’m going to have surgery for though I do use retinol and am considering tret.

No one has said anything.. As I said before who gives a shiny shite, if you're happy that's all that matters.

@veevee04 but why are you defensive about not giving a shit what people think?!

An ex close friend of mine was happy to get Botox, not sure if she still does, but she was always into teeth whitening, veneers etc and posh skincare whereas I’m just not!

I’ve had facials and used posh skincare when younger but I didn’t see a huge difference having it though it was nice.

whumpthereitis · 13/03/2022 17:08

@Againstmachine

*‘And yes Botox is a toxin.’

And not harmful in the correct dosage. Opium, henbane and hemlock for example are all poisons, yet they’re also useful in medicine. Hell, taking enough paracetamol can kill you.

‘It’s a toxin’ really doesn’t mean too much.*

Comparing things that are useful in medicine prescribed by professionals with non medicinal Botox procedures makes zero sense.

I wasn’t comparing their usages, which I believe was quite clear. My point is that ‘it’s a toxin’ is a redundant statement by itself.
SilkenBunny · 13/03/2022 17:15

You look great Wags.

I assumed that SJP had probably had work done around her jowls and jaw at some point because despite her lines and wrinkles, she still looks very 'lifted' in that area. I don't believe that neck lifts can erase wrinkles easily, which is why certain celebs have baby smooth faces but wrinkled necks (and hands). So I still wonder if she's had something done in that area... if she hasn't then she's incredibly lucky in that respect.

Gillian Anderson is another one - in Sex Education, I noticed that she's quite lined, but her jawline is still good for her age. Ditto Christy Turlington, Cate Blanchett, Judy Dench, Helen Mirren, Emma Thompson and a whole host of other 50-70 something celebs who seem to be ageing cleverly gracefully.

SilkenBunny · 13/03/2022 17:18

By the way I'm not anti Botox myself - I had it from the ages of 35-45 but I haven't for a year now, and especially in the light of bills going up I'm starting to wonder whether it really does much for me, and whether I need to start thinking about putting the money towards something more permanent in five years' time or so.

Savvysix1984 · 13/03/2022 17:19

@Wagsandclaws
You look fantastic. Well done on losing the weight also!

1forAll74 · 13/03/2022 17:28

I would not be putting any unnatural substances into my face or body., Some of these procedures need topping up after some time,, so yet more substances are used in the face etc. You can often see people around, who have had fillers and all sorts of facial treatment, especially those awful pumped up lips, which look gross, all in the quest to look more attractive. and usually they dont.

ChloeHel · 13/03/2022 17:32

I’m only 30 and I don’t know anyone that hasn’t had bloody fillers or Botox! I’m the only one out of my friends that hasn’t. I’ll try and keep my natural face for as long as possible haha.

Delatron · 13/03/2022 17:32

I don’t think Christy Turlington has had anything done (not that is detectable). She looks beautiful. Cate Blanchett I wouldn’t put in that same bracket of women. Looking at pictures at a recent awards ceremony, at 52, there are very few lines and a taut jaw! Still looks amazing though and it’s good work.

Gardeningcreature · 13/03/2022 17:38

Summwrblues good job I don't give a fuck about what you think.
Where do you think the trend came from?
From porn. The reason women are encouraged to have massive lips is to satisfy men's sexual desire.
I do have children and they are well aware about my opinion. They say the same themselves that ridiculously fake lips look just that, stupid.
This idea isn't new at all, look back at adverts from years ago, advertisers are well aware that there is a psychological link between lips and sex.
Next you'll be tellingly me that the shaved fanny look did not originate from porn.

AffIt · 13/03/2022 17:39

I'm in my early 40s and have never had any work done (bar veneers on my front teeth), but I do have a cohort of friends who started in the their early-mid 30s and it is becoming painfully obvious how much more they're having to get done to just maintain.

I had a mad moment over lockdown about my nasio-labial lines and spoke to a friend of mine who is a dentist and a trained aesthetic practitioner.

She bluntly told me not to bother, as you can't stop once you start and then need to fill in the edges, as filler is heavy and physics kicks in: so what starts as a wee bit of filler around the NL lines turns into filler in the cheeks, turns into Botox around the eyeline, turns into Botox in the forehead...

Nah. As they say, the alternative to aging is so much worse.

Wagsandclaws · 13/03/2022 17:39

Thanks so much all Smile honestly I'm over the moon but if I'm asked I'll always tell and have done!

The truth is no one ( or 95 percent ) of people, men included get to 50 without a bit of jowl or some skin sagging 🤷‍♀️ I follow Paulina Porizkova on Instagram and she is utterly utterly stunning still.

She talks about the invisibility of women as they age and I suppose that's true in some respects. She has had nothing done ( she always says YET ) and I honestly think she didn't need it.

Wrt SJP maybe she just has a very firm jawline as I can't help but think that if she had had a similar procedure to me ( maybe just her neck ) it would be 'more' lifted iyswim? Could be wrong though - she looks fantastic and glam and natural all at once to me Smile

It's a tricky subject as I'm fairly sure my daughter ( in her 20's ) and her girlfriend firmly disapprove of my surgery and tweakments - they think I should look like the Mum I am and grow old gracefully.

I also have a two ds who are 9 and 13 and they didn't notice a thing. It just seems that women judge women regardless of if they have had help in the tweakment dept or not sadly.

This thread has been eye opening wrt people's attitudes , surely it's just up to the individual? Yep big lips can look comical and I do think that a super puffy face isn't great too but I am in no position to judge and if it makes the individual happy then that's all good.

The problem is when you start overdoing things and I reckon that's in the eye of the beholder as some people actively want to look like Katie price who, I think has gone way too far and she is never happy with the way she looks. But again to some people that is a great look.

Wagsandclaws · 13/03/2022 17:42

@JudyGemstone I'm in the south west and use a really lovely practitioner, he's a gp as his main job and does aesthetics 3 days a week which he is super knowledgeable about.

I tried 3 other people in Bristol before I found him and he's brilliant and very honest about what you do and don't need.

Pm me if you'd like to know his contact details.

SilkenBunny · 13/03/2022 17:44

Well in that case I'm even more in awe of the lovely Christy, but it wouldn't surprise me if she has had some 'gentle' work done. She's early fifties and her wrinkles are very subtle and her lips haven't lost much volume etc... if I compare her to my friends, many of whom are the same age, live really well, and to the best of my knowledge haven't had any work done, she is much less lined and much more 'lifted' than them. Of course, it does help that's she's naturally gorgeous! Smile. I follow her on Insta and she's very much of the whole natural woman approach so it would be very against her 'brand' to look done. But perhaps she hasn't - and if she has she's absolutely managed to attain 'clever ageing' look. She is undeniably gorgeous whatever.

Clarabe1 · 13/03/2022 17:47

@5128gap it ends with you being dissatisfied with your appearance and finding other things to ‘fix’ because thats the thing when you are in your early 40s, it is relatively easy to minimize the affects of aging. Wait until you get into your fifties, you need far more invasive work to get the same affect. It’s a costly and ultimately futile job to keep the signs of getting older at bay. It’s also ends with an obviously older woman looking ridiculous. It’s a money making scam - and shockingly an unregulated one.

Frostylaudanum · 13/03/2022 17:53

@Turningpurple

Don't know anyone who has done it.

How do people know that?

I live in a very deprived area with a high number of people dependent on minimum wage jobs and/or benefits. The majority of my friends are on disability benefits I don't think anyone I know could afford it.
