As tithe says. Not bumpy or raised. Came up an hour ago. Not a graze. Like botches.

Anyone any ideas?

I used to get a rash just like that, under my chin, every month just before my period as a teenager and in my 20s. I can't possibly think how the two things are connected though so maybe there was some other behaviour I did to cause it every month? I don't know.

BoredZelda · 13/03/2022 00:01

It looks like petechaie. Little blood spots from pressure I've had it from coughing/sneezing or straining before!

That’s what I thought. My daughter used to get them around her eyes. She hasn’t had them for years.

HairyFeline · 13/03/2022 00:05

I get this same thing every so often…. Really weird! Fades after a couple of days and have no idea why it appears. I noticed my dd (6) had a couple in the same place a few days ago too. It’s gone now.

kittensinthekitchen · 13/03/2022 00:19

Not something you want to think about, really, but maybe worth gently checking that she hasn't been putting something around her neck.

blushi · 13/03/2022 00:36

I get a pretty identical looking rash under my chin fairly often when I wear a jump that covers my hands and when I rest my chin on my hand it rests on the jumper. The jumper then rubs my chin without me noticing and I end up with these marks

MissSmiley · 13/03/2022 01:51

@steff13

I think it looks a little like a hickey. Was she doing that thing kids do, where they put a cup over their chin and bottom lip and suck it on? I'm not explaining that well, but it could result in bruising like that under the chin.
I actually took one of mine to out of hours doctor with a "rash" like this. He then admitted he'd done it with a water bottle and it had really worried him when he saw the mark 🙄
WaterBottle123 · 13/03/2022 08:54

How is she this morning Op?

WhackingPhoenix · 13/03/2022 09:04

I’ve had exactly this, in the same spot, from lying face down on the carpet while cleaning under the bed. You mention your DD was cleaning her room, could it be that?

No change. Still there at 3am and still same at 7am and now.

She feels fine though so I'm 99% sure it's nothing serious.

Off to find a Sunday pharmacy once I get her up (she's still a typical teenager in not wanting to get up) Grin

It's under the skin like a blood rash. Not from any disruption to the skin itself. Her chin is perfectly smooth.

No. I know what you mean and I've probed and nothing like that.

As I say, she's absolutely fine otherwise just this very odd splatter appearing from nowhere

peboh · 13/03/2022 09:29

I often get bruises that when been carrying a heavy bag over my shoulder. It's like the pressure has popped some blood vessels.
I don't think it's anything to worry about, but if you're concerned you can ring 111 for some advice.

nuffinimlazyatthemoment · 13/03/2022 09:32

I had this once when I was a teenager. I had no idea what caused it and still don't, although my dog slightly bumped me under the chin the other day (didn't even hurt me) and I got a few of the same red spots.

(Btw, I'm now mid 40's so I think I can say it wasn't anything serious in my case).

The3Ls · 13/03/2022 10:06

Shingles?

Calandor · 13/03/2022 12:30

That looks like burst blood vessels. Has she been unwell? I once came up with this all over my neck and cheeks after a vomiting bug (pressure of being sick caused it).

Do the glass test otherwise if she's well it just looks like broken capilliaries

Calandor · 13/03/2022 12:33

So I'd also sensitively ask if she's been maybe making herself throw up? Unlikely but she is of that age and throwing up is what caused mine...

hippoherostandinghere · 13/03/2022 12:37

This looks like burst blood vessels. Has she been sick recently, as in vomiting? That could cause this with the pressure around her neck. Definitely some sort of pressure/friction type injury.

hippoherostandinghere · 13/03/2022 12:38

Cross post with @Calandor but I agree, it's secondly burst blood vessels.

hippoherostandinghere · 13/03/2022 12:38

Probably not secondary

MrsVeryTired · 13/03/2022 12:43

Also think its like burst blood vessels, I used to get it as a teen when I had bulimia (hope its not that obviously OP but something to think about)

WhackingPhoenix · 13/03/2022 13:29

@daisychainsspring

It won’t let me quote re the chin being smooth/being face down on the carpet. Mine was also bruising under the skin, not a rash. Nothing to feel on the surface.

daisychainsspring · 13/03/2022 17:34

Pharmacist was none the wiser.

It's fading now so will see what tomorrow brings but she's still fine so leaving it now.

Good I’m glad OP.

Interesting thread - my DD 13 has also got two strange red bruising marks on her chin, and I was also worrying about meningitis especially as she currently has covid (could that make meningitis more likely?). Was your DD ok in the end?

Momkat · 11/01/2023 08:48

Hello, my daughter just got this same thing. In the same spot too, plus along her cheek around her neck a bit. I wish I could tell you what it is but I'm looking myself. Going to he Dr. But I'm glad to see she's not the only one because it's strange..no pain, it's not raised, kinda like broken blood vessels under the skin but don't know why..good luck!
