As tithe says. Not bumpy or raised. Came up an hour ago. Not a graze. Like botches.

Anyone any ideas?

@steff13

I think it looks a little like a hickey. Was she doing that thing kids do, where they put a cup over their chin and bottom lip and suck it on? I'm not explaining that well, but it could result in bruising like that under the chin.
Yes, DS did that and it resulted in exactly the sort of bruising in your picture OP, just around his mouth.
Frazzled2207 · 12/03/2022 22:40

I’d be concerned too but if she is otherwise well and no fever etc I think chances of it being meningitis are prob extremely small

Hopefully someone will call you and reassure soon. Unfortunately I would not be at all surprised if they asked you to go to a&e.

Is there any chance it could be an allergic reaction to something?

EnglishMuffins · 12/03/2022 22:43

Henoch schonlein purpura? My ds had this a while back and it started as a non-blanching rash similar to this inside his ears.

daisychainsspring · 12/03/2022 22:43

I also think it's extremely unlikely and unfortunately if/when I get through they probably will say go to a&e as no one wants to take a risk

And a&e on a Saturday night will be awful

Hi OP. My daughters get something very like this on her breastbone, usually triggered by heat or fabric rub. First time we got sent to A and E, released 4 hours later when they realised piriton reduced the rash, so it was skin related not viral etc,

Give her a piriton or similar, can't hurt and may provide reassurance

Good shout. Never thought of piriton.

Will give her one as we wait

Ds gets a similar rash around his eyes when he has been sick. We went through out of hours dr and they were quite firm with me that if I ever saw something like it again it was straight to a&e no waiting around.

That said I'm sure there are lots of reasons why this sort of.mark could exist pressure etc but meningitis does need to be ruled out

daisychainsspring · 12/03/2022 22:53

Why didn't I think about Piriton????

What a numpty

Nousernameforme · 12/03/2022 22:53

1st time he had it we went through the out of hours

Angrymum22 · 12/03/2022 22:55

Was she using a vacuum cleaner while cleaning her room? We’ve all done stupid things at time.

floofycroissant · 12/03/2022 22:57

I get similar markings when I spend the day at my desk resting my chin in my hands.

cuno · 12/03/2022 22:57

It looks exactly like what I get when I've been throwing up, it's burst blood vessels.

daisychainsspring · 12/03/2022 22:59

It's been an hour and still on hold

OP posts:
EthelTheAardvark · 12/03/2022 23:00

Is it tender at all where the marks are?

daisychainsspring · 12/03/2022 23:01

@EthelTheAardvark

Is it tender at all where the marks are?
No. It's literally got no surface impact at all.

Under the skin. Blood blotches

Dd had something similar age 2. Went to A&E as it didn't fade.

The consultant said as she had no temp it wasn't meningitis. She had sneezed though, and the Dr said it's called a mechanical rash and can happen above the diaphragm basically, just the force of a cough or sneeze can be enough.

I was so nervous leaving the hospital, everything we're taught as parents about non blanching rashes = meningitis.

Definitely get it checked out but if she's otherwise well it's almost certainly something not to worry about

Enko · 12/03/2022 23:02

Hope you get off waiting soon

daisychainsspring · 12/03/2022 23:02

If I hear another 5 minutes of this muzak I might scream

OP posts:
Quackpot · 12/03/2022 23:11

I'd go straight to a and e with a rash that doesn't fade, especially in that age group. And I'm the sort that avoids hospitals. Take no chances with any meningitis symptoms.

ElegantlyTouched · 12/03/2022 23:16

What was she wearing today? Could it be a reaction to a high neck or the like?
I took my toddler to a and e for a strange, non-blanching rash a while ago. They said the fact that she wasn't ill and the rash didn't look nasty ruled out meningitis. They didn't know what it was, mind, and it soon cleared up.

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 12/03/2022 23:24

My Dd had an almost identical mark a few weeks ago. Turns out there was some tiktok thing talked about at school where you twist and squeeze your chip (nope I don't get it either...) and she'd absent mindedly done it the day before in class, then forgotten all about it. Fast forward 24 hours and the mark appeared just like that! See if she can perhaps remember fiddling with It yesterday and she might recall something?

daisychainsspring · 12/03/2022 23:25

Spoke with a lovely nurse who consulted with a clinician and assured me that they would expect other symptoms to be showing before a rash so monitor the rash overnight and if it changes call back and if still there in the morning go to a pharmacy so they can look at it.

Thank goodness. Didn't fancy a&e much on a Saturday night.

Will monitor intermittently.

Thanks for the MN support. What a palaver!!!

@daisychainsspring

It's meningitis I'm worried about
If she’s not ill in any other way, then it’s most certainly not an infection. Looks like a love bite!
Frazzled2207 · 12/03/2022 23:50

Pleased you got reassured. If your dd is otherwise ok then try and make sure you both get a good nights sleep. There is a very good chance it will have faded by morning.

Mossstitch · 12/03/2022 23:51

Has she worn a bike helmet..... Chin strap caused it by trapping.
